Re: Towards what is Real
Dear JF,
thank you very much for this lovely and open sharing.
You were asking for ‘my best exercises’ for seeing ‘through the personal self’.
Actually there is no exercise to see through something that isn't there in the first place.
There is nothing to see through.
Check your expectations ...

Re: Towards what is Real
Hey JF,
great.
To start again it might be a good idea to just give a brief summary where you are at in the moment.
Is there something like a major issue, or something alike?
All the best

Re: My Thread
Dear Beanstalk,
thanks for the answers of the final questions.
I'm going to show them to other guides and maybe they'll have further questions.
Would you like anything to add before me doing so?

Re: My Thread
Dear Beanstalk,
There are as many ways of expression as there are beings on the planet.
It is never a good idea to compare ones experience with others…
The very own experience is unique – and jet it has a common ground shared by all.
If it would be otherwise, how could a forum like this work ...

Re: Looking for guidance
Dear Ben,
Thanks for your reply.
Sorry for the long silence. The short reason for it is that I have no answers to any of the questions you posed
…so I can't locate it, situate it in time, or anything like that. I can't get any sort of a grip on it
What about that this IS the answer?

Dear Beanstalk,
sorry for the late reply.

Dear Beanstalk,
Attention is just a word for when there is increased awareness of an attended object. it's not really a thing in and of itself. However paradoxically it also has something to do with the mind. It's like the mind always wants to reach out and grab parts of experience, and separate ...

Dear Beanstalk,
Sorry again for taking so long to reply. I am travelling and there is rarely reliable wifi.
Perfectly OK.
You had mentioned that so it’s good to know. Thanks for letting me know!

Re: My Thread
Dear Beanstalk,
There is a definite difference between attention and awareness.
And it is essential to notice the difference in our exploration.
It is a rather crucial point.
I’m hitting on this because you once mentioned your deliberate movement
of attention as a source of doing.
So it is ...

Dear Ben,
Thank you for the reply.
I think what I was getting stuck on was how to observe consciousness in this way. If consciousness is the observer, how can it be observed? What are we observing it with? My only experience of this is not so much observing consciousness as just being with it ...

Dear Beanstalk
All of the above is understood, I will just keep noticing what the mind comes up with and looking to see whether it can really be found.
Very nice.
Now we may have a look at the difference between attention and awareness.
Notice how and when attention is happening.

Dear Beanstalk,
it is not inside or outside the blackness, but this is what I didn't understand. When I look, the blackness that is seen when eyes are closed is not the entire field of awareness, it is just something occurring within it (even if it appears to take up the whole of it). so ...
