Hi Jack,
That's surprisingly not so easy to do, as in times of stress the mind is very chaotic and lots of thoughts/sensations flying through very quickly, like a very convoluted chain .
Can you see that this is thought content?
Look.
See.

Not a problem. Just note, that this is thought content.
And that is what arose.
It arose on its own accord.
1 a thought "hurry up your late"
2 feeling of tension intensifying
3 feeling of annoyance for something not being on the right place delaying me for another few seconds 😅 THOUGHT CONTENT
4 "why can't he put things where they belong?" Frustration
5 my little one wakes up calling me
6 "arghhh why now?! Going to be even later" frustration and tightness intensifying, feeling a stress headache coming on
7 "breath calm down, not little ones fault I'm in a rush, doesn't deserve a frustrated dad"
8 taking a few slow breaths (somewhat hurried😝)
9 spending a few minutes with my kid, calm on the outside, very tensed on the inside
10 rushing to the door, head throbbing, all kinds of worrying scenarios+accompanying emotions whirling around
Good job. You saw a chain of events as a chain of events.

I want you to live life for a day. And during that day, if it happens, and if noticing is present, try to notice occurances of focal points shifting. Or awareness shifting. And also if/when the sense of self arises.

But when those things come up and get noticed, pay close attention to notice it as a chain of event just like you did above.

Notice that, it, too, is no different than any of numbers 1-10 you wrote above. It could take place as number 1. Or number 5. Or number 10. Just see if it presents itself at all. Any of those things I mentioned.

And if it doesn't, but let's say thetorically you are trying to notice it and it doesn't pop up- just notice that the "trying to notice it" is also an event in the chain... that it too arises on its own, and could take as being number 1, 2, 5, 9, etc in a given chain.

Do that for me?
And of course, report your findings or hangups.
But if there is a hangup, before you write it down... notice that that "hangup" too, just like anything else, arose on its own, out of nowhere, without asking for your permission to he a hangup. It just presented itself.

Ash.

Thanks for your prompt replies and guidance, greatly appreciated 🙏
try to notice occurrences of focal points shifting
Could you please clarify what you mean by that?

Thanks
Have a nice weekend 🙂

Hi Jack,

When you said all of that....
Is each link in the chain also a shift in focal point of your experience?

Something new begins to take center stage?
A new link in the chain?

So what I'm saying with that line is...
Yeah, try to notice occurances of focal points shifting in real time.
Or said another way, try to notice new links in the chain... new sensations taking center stage when new sensations take center stage...

Start with that.
We will dissect your findings later.
But just go ahead with that and let me know of some chains that happened and got noticed throughout the day.
No pressure.

I'm not asking for clarity to be in your experience 100% of the time.
You'll probably find (through looking) that it actually isn't....

Hi Ash

It's actually quite fun looking at those chains as they come and go, it's also very easy to get absorbed in them and forget all about looking 😂

One thing I noticed though (at least that's how it seems to me currently), it's not just a simple straight chain but they get layered, like in addition to the continuous labeling the mind does, certain beliefs and moods hang around longer and the fast moving chains of experience get filtered/coloured by them. Let's say some simple sense perceptions come in, seeing a tree for example (+ immediate labeling as a tree) if I'm in a meditative/spiritual mood (a complex chain on its own, hanging around) i will see the tree very different than if I'm in a stressed dense mood (again a complex chain on its own, hanging around) and so forth. Haven't managed to look/see properly everything, some experiences pull me fully in whether i like it or not😅
But those things i do manage to see clearly all in all it's all a bundle of colourful thoughts interacting nothing else 🤷

Hey Jack!
It's actually quite fun looking at those chains as they come and go, it's also very easy to get absorbed in them and forget all about looking 😂
Can you notice that even the getting absorbed in them...
That even that is a happening of its own?
That even that too, arises on its own, without ever having asked for your permission for absorption to arise?

And the forgetting that may come after?
And even the remembering that may at some point follow?

That all of those things also, are arising on their own?
That you didn't have to ask for absorption to arise.
You didn't ask forgetting to arise.
You didn't ask remembering to arise.

Look back on those moments and the more that will come at some point.
See for yourself.
Is there even any control for either of those?
in addition to the continuous labeling the mind does
Is this really continuous though...
Is it as continuous as you reckon it to be?
Are you a 24/7/365 labeling machine?
Or does labeling also, arise on its own...?
Disappear on its own...?
Haven't managed to look/see properly everything
The looking "properly"
The seeing "properly"
Those too...
Even those...
That arises on its own, too, yeah?
The seeing "properly"

Almost begs the question of if there is even a "properly"... (rhetorical - don't answer lol)
some experiences pull me fully in whether i like it or not😅
Even the pulling in that may occur...
You didn't say, "Hey, experience! Make sure this pulls me in and I forget whatever I was on about!"
Did you?

Even the pulling in, just happens on its own too, yeah?

Look back on your experiences.
Reflect.
See for yourself.
But those things i do manage to see clearly
The clarity...
If we were to call it that.
Even that too...
The clear seeing...

Isn't even that, just something that spontaneously may arise.. all on its own?
all in all it's all a bundle of colourful thoughts interacting nothing else 🤷
Surely there's more to your experience than just thoughts!

You just told me about times where complete absorption has taken place! Maybe sometimes absorption in thought. But I'm sure absorption in many other things too, yeah?

Give me some examples!
I want to call you bluff, show me your bluff! Lol.

Ash.
