LU is focused guiding for seeing there is no real, inherent 'self' - what do you understand by this?
If seen accurately, the experience of being a human being is a constant changing flow of impressions fuelled by the sensory channels of the body. The only thing that does not change, as it has no attributes, is awareness , which could be compared to empty space, formless, without boundaries, unchanging, indescribable. That is the best I can put it.
What are you looking for at LU?
I am reading the book "Finding Awakening" by Christiane Michelberger at the moment, and would be interested in a similar guidance to deepen realization. I am especially interested in a permanent shift as is described here.
What do you expect from a guided conversation?
Similar results to what is described in the above mentioned book. A "shift" through seeing through the ten fetters. Apart from that I would value a personal contact with someone who is firmly established in this shift.
What is your experience in terms of spiritual practices, seeking and inquiry?
I am 68 years am and a medical doctor and have been practicing various approaches since I was about 20 starting with Vipassana courses as from 1981, the EST Training various Rajneesh practices, and many more. At present I am participating in Balanced View (Tibetan Lineage). I have had frequent and undeniable realizations of no-self, and would like to take on the process of seeing through the 10 Fetters.
On a scale from 1 to 10, how willing are you to question any currently held beliefs about 'self?

Realizing No Self
Re: Realizing No Self
Hi Emeetykkin. My name is Ashton and I'll be your guide.
I think we'll have a good and interesting time.
You can call me Ash or Ashton. Whatever works. Lmk if there's an easier name I can call you, hahaha!
Anyways, the way this is going to work is I am going to put things that you say in quotes by copying a sentence or paragraph of yours that strikes me by placing that copied text inside of the quote function up above this textbox. It'll appear as [ quote ] (copied text here) [ /quote ] except there won't be spaces. You'll do the same when answering my questions. Simple enough, right?!
When I ask you these questions, I do not want you to tell me your answer from thought. Never! You can tell me your answer a) as your experience is currently happening and you notice what is currently happening as your experience unfolds or b) via memory.
To clarify, you CAN tell me "Ash, thought is/was coming up and it was saying xyz thing". But that is drastically different than forming your answer FROM thought. See how that example is different? That statement would have been formed through experience being seen directly and/or memory.
Anyways, what you said here hit me and this will be the first thing we examine:
I want you to live life for a few days and come back to me and detail me your answer solely from memory/experience, NOT from thought. Is clarity always there in your experience? Or is it sometimes there and other times not? Is it never there? Is it ever accompanied by anything? Sometimes yes other times no? Always? Never?
Like I said, live life for a few days. You'll have experiences over a few days which when you come back to write me your answer will be memory based from experience. Detail me your answers but also give examples that led you to your answer via that very memory/experience so I can see where you are coming from. Again, not from thought, but experience.
Ash.

If what you mean by awareness could also be described as "focal points being noticed" or even maybe more simply, "clarity", or "meta-awareness", ... is that really so?The only thing that does not change, as it has no attributes, is awareness , which could be compared to empty space, formless, without boundaries, unchanging, indescribable. That is the best I can put it.
