Re: My Story. Looking for a guide...

Thanks. Looking at you questions I see there is no end to perception other than a thought in the present moment. What is now is perception there is other than thought. The thought of other people comes to mind when we speak of this and their experience being different. I guess this is what may be tripping me up a little. It also brings me back to the thought of a separate self.
Anything we might say about others is only a thought and the story it tells. We have no actual experience of others, just as we have no experience of a separate self, when we distill the moment in direct experience as it is now. Every single thing in this seamless experience happening now is known through perception. We know perception because this knowing presence is permeated through and through with the knowing of itself only.

If there is no self, how could there be others? The only thing that stands between us and others is the conditioning accumulated through memory. We have believed in self and others for so long that it takes time for the sense of others to come undone. Once we have seen clearly that there is no self, the stage has been set for all the implications of this realization to take effect in everything we perceive. Others is a story, we do not experience others as a separate self.

If there is no self, how could there be others?

If I have no control over what thoughts appear, how can I control the appearance of another perception of a seeming body-mind complex we are calling an other?

This total seamless perception happens without any effort. Like a mighty river, there is no stopping this flow of life. It is only another thought that creates the impression that a false separation exists. Dropping the belief in our thinking, that the present moment should somehow be different than it is, is liberation. Liberation to experiencing this life as it is, not how we *think* it should be.

I understand that we needed to keep the questions limited and I understand if you dont think it is necessary to answer this but if there is no separate self as I am starting to see. I still don't see how other people can experience differently to what I do. Seeing happens, touching, feeling and thinking happen. Don't they happen to everybody. Even though this is not experienced for me - Kevin. Does this experiencing for separate entities not make duality true? Please excuse me for asking this but this is what is holding me back I believe. This thought. I have read a little about Atman and Brahman in the past. Sorry if I am asking out of context but how does this tie in? Not believing other bodies experience is very difficult to comprehend.

Does this experiencing for separate entities not make duality true?
No. It does not make duality true. This is one seamless event happening now for every seeming separate self. How could the content of a thought actually make duality true?

Lets say that there are 8 billion apparent body mind complexes all having their own apparent thoughts, available only to them. So what? It doesn't make them separate from this moment now. Have you ever experienced a moment with only a body mind present and nothing else at all? Have you ever woke up in the morning and not found an environment already available in the same instant?

What I am attempting to point to is that your idea of what non-duality is, is skewed. It is imaginary, just like a self is imaginary. All there is is this, whatever this is... and it is not limited to only a Kevin. It is the whole thing NOW.

Duality or no duality is the belief in thoughts content. It is only a thought claiming that there is separation. Separation does not exist as an actual fact. Things don't exist independently in a vacuum. Every moment of separation is only a thought. There is so much more available, present, than just a thought and the claims a thought seems to make.

Seeing through no self is only seeing that in our actual direct experience, a separate physical entity cannot be physically found.

LOOK! There is no self.

Show me anything that exists separate and alone from everything else. It cannot be done. Simply look at perception and the instantaneous knowing of it, where does it end?

Go outside the next chance you get and walk down the street and look. Keep walking and see if you can ever find an end to perception and the knowing of that perception. Can you?

Please perform the exercise above and describe the results.

No it doesnt end. I think I am starting to get this. Basically what I am is experiences that are perceived. The everythingness in my awareness. Not the Kevin originally believed to be the perceiver. I find it quite funny to notice the thoughts that pop up to try and deny this. I feel like I am changing to and from experiencing reality in this manner.

Having some "wow" moments...

Thank you Joseph.

What is our next step?

Basically what I am is experiences that are perceived.
Experiences come and go. Knowing of experiences happens endlessly.

Are there any doubts at all about seeing through the illusion of the separate self?

Ok Kevin, we will move on to the final questions. Take your time answering the following :

) Is there a separate entity 'self', 'me' 'I', at all, anywhere, in any way, shape or form? Was there ever?

2) Explain in detail what the illusion of separate self is, when it starts and how it works from your own experience. Describe it fully as you see it now.

3) How does it feel to see this? What is the difference from before you started this dialogue? Please report from the past few days.

4) What was the last bit that pushed you over, made you look?

5) Describe decision, intention, free will, choice and control. What makes things happen? How
does it work? What are you responsible for? Give examples from experience.

6) Anything to add?

Hi Joseph.

Apologies for the very late response. I went on holiday and upon return I got Malaria. Shortly after this I received some bad new. My mother has been diagnosed with cancer. So I decided to put off the liberation for a while. I am however still interested in being pointed towards pure acceptance of no seperate self. Where would you recommend we start from here if you are still willing to assist?

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

In response to your first question, I do still see a seperate self. A body which, without the ability for sense perception, wouldnt be able to experience anything. Because of my recent absence I think we may have gone back a few steps. During meditation I have started noticing brief moments of the witnessing presence so to speak. But the belief of a seperate self is still pretty well embedded in me.

We need to start at the beginning. I don't wish to do this if you plan to leave when I give the final questions. I do this voluntarily and if this is not something you will see through to the end, I do not wish to continue. You could have let me know several months ago by responding to my posts asking if you were doing ok or not. You chose not to.

If we continue I expect you to honor this commitment.

We need to revisit the preliminaries. Please review and confirm you have seen, as well as acknowledge that you are in agreement. Take your time and respond when you have completed.

Guidelines for guiding process:

1. You agree to post at least once a day.

2. In general, the guide will ask the questions for you to respond to

3. Responses require your utmost honesty

4. Responses are best from direct experience (felt senses and observed thoughts). Long-
winded analytical and philosophical answers are best avoided and may even hinder progress.

5. Put aside all other teachings, philosophies and such for the remainder of this investigation.
Really put all your effort and attention in to seeing this reality, as it is. If you have a daily and
essential meditation practice, it is fine to continue that.

6. Please learn to use the quote function; instructions are located in the link below this line:

Additionally, there is a 'Subscribe to topic' button in bottom left corner of page on the purple bar, right next to 'Board Index' button. If you click it, you will be subscribed to this thread and will receive an email every time I post a response.

Thank you.

Alrighty then. Lets get on with it.

To refresh - here at Liberation Unleashed we point to the undeniable fact of no self. You cannot find a discrete, experienceable separate self in your direct experience. Every time you think you do, you do so only as a thought. Put another way, the self you think you are is only a series of self referential thoughts claiming that it is a separate self. A distinct, concrete, physical separate self is never your direct experience.

I am not saying that you do not exist. Something is obviously is reading these words now. Something is aware of its own existence.

I am, however, stating emphatically, that what ever changes, is not real... meaning that it does not have absolute existence.

Have you ever known a time when you did not exist?
