Re: realizing selflessness

Mostly playing with "This is it" / "Samsara is nirvana" / "No picking and choosing."
That is, settling into:
This is it — all that is experienced right now, including not only seeing, hearing, feeling, putting my experience into words, composing my next LU post, but also feeling like a self. All ...

Re: realizing selflessness

Story: The Shape of Over Here

Daniel had seen it many times.

No separate self could be found.

He had looked.

Not casually.
Not as a belief.
Not as a phrase borrowed from Elias.

He had looked in thought.
He had looked in sensation.
He had looked in memory.
He had looked in decision.
He had ...

Re: realizing selflessness

Hi K, You've been instrumental in me digging deep for more effective ways to commune-icate the triggers that will induce a novel (to you) way of interpreting experience.
Experiencing here is currently an avalanche of thought/feelings about one possibility.
i just saw the beginning of an interview ...

Re: realizing selflessness

I’m so sick of treating myself like a fixer-upper! Yes.

Good.

That sentence is not a problem. It is a flare.

“I’m so sick of projects.”

Feel that.

Not the story about years of practice. Not Buddhism. Not awakening. Not inquiry. Not fixing. Just the body-sense of sick of projects .

Maybe ...

Re: Let's do this

I think you've uncovered something very subtle.

Before, the hidden expectation was:

> "If I can just see clearly, the suffering will soften."

Now you've found an even deeper one:

> "If suffering is seen clearly, acceptance should accompany it."

And... it doesn't have to.

That's the ...

Re: realizing selflessness

If the thought-entanglement was a construction of suffering, the recognition of thinking is often also accompanied by a recognition of constriction in throat and chest and maybe face. And noticing that constriction is then followed by letting it go. (So that seems worthwhile for the reconditioning ...

Re: realizing selflessness

What happened was that for a little while, two days ago, thoughts felt just a bit less sticky than usual, a bit less compelling and less “mine.” And I continue to feel, to a lesser degree, like I can more easily let go of them,
I get what you're saying and that gives me an idea of the way things ...

Re: Let's do this

Hi Ash, i have shown your thread to other guides at Liberation Unleashed for agreement that you have experienced an initial shift and recognized the illusory nature of a Self.
This marks the beginning of a 'journey' that will continue while curiosity is active.
To encourage and facilitate your ...

Re: realizing selflessness

Hi K,
At least for the moment, it seems clear, experientially, that there’s no need to pay any more heed to my thoughts, as if they’re important or relevant to “me,” than I would to a radio that had been left on in my head, tuned to some random station.
Great start. Good story. What do you mean ...

Re: realizing selflessness

Hi K,
Whether you meant that, for reasons unclear to me, I should NOT inquire into what is actually here now or whether the main point was just that the celebration thing is now particularly apt for me.
The celebration thing is certainly apt.
Inquiry will happen or not. Why do you keep looking ...

Re: Let's do this

Let’s run through these questions and see if there’s anywhere that needs further investigation.
Be relaxed. Don't answer from thought. Describe experience..

1) Is there a separate entity 'self', 'me' 'I', at all, anywhere, in any way, shape or form?
Was there ever?

2) Describe how the illusion of ...

Re: realizing selflessness

I think I understand what you’re recommending — "celebrating" the noticing of selfing, by acknowledging the humor of it, rather than engaging with the thoughts — but I’m a little confused by this:
.Celebrate it by acknowledging the arrival of the thought that expresses the realisation that ...

Re: Let's do this

Hi Ash, give me your response..
Where Ashton is (imho)</b>

From everything you've written, I'd say the biggest shift has already happened:

The organism is no longer primarily trying to change experience. It's becoming interested in understanding how experience actually behaves.

That is a ...

Re: realizing selflessness

Trying to remember to notice selfing and inquire, No! . Do this instead..
When noticing that selfng is happening, celebrate the noticing.
It's not about the selfing it's about the recognition that it's happening.
Watch what happens when it is celebrated.
I suggest that you celebrate by ...
