Hi.

You gave no DE for these:
feels as though there is a see-er watching everything around this body

still feels like there is a choice of where or on what to place attention/awareness.
All you did was use the word "feel." That doesn't count. *What* feeling?

This must be things that bodies can feel. Temperature weight, relaxation contraction - things like that and exactly where in the body?

Like you did in the first 2 pointers here.

Direct Experience - Labeling Daily Activities

Here's an exercise that I would like you to try as many times throughout the day as you can. Label daily activities simply color/image, sound, smell, taste, sensation, thought.

So for example, when having breakfast, become aware of:

Seeing a cup, simply= image/color
Smelling coffee, simply = smell
Feeling the warmth of the coffee cup, simply = sensation
Tasting the coffee, simply = taste
Hearing the spoon stirring the coffee, simply = sound
Thought about drinking the coffee, simply = thought

Just break down daily activities into these categories (which are all Actual/Direct Experience) and report back with lists exactly like the one above.

Post several of your own observations in a list *exactly* like the one above, please.

Refer to the green list of Actual/Direct Experience in the prior post if that helps. Those are the only items any experience can be.

Knowing is about knowledge which is all in the mind and we are not interested in that

We are only interested in looking at and seeing what is actually going on in your present moment-to-moment experience. We are only interested in your Direct Experience in the moment..

Direct or Actual Experience is

Seeing
Hearing
Feeling (Sensation, not emotion. Emotion is Sensation plus made-up thoughts & labels)
Tasting
Smelling
Thoughts Arising (but not their content)

*What* feeling?
I can see it. Simply that behind the eyes sensation again and a thought arising again. The 'awareness' doesn't come until after the direct experience. It is just another name for the see-er, hearer, toucher, thinker.
Uggh! How do you stay with it, though? It doesn't seem like all of life will just take care of itself.

Do you realize that you are not following the instructions at all?

Please go back to my previous post and follow the instructions.

Do you realize that you are not following the instructions at all?
No, I'm sorry. I'll try again.
Okay, please explain again where, exactly, you see a "self?" in Direct Experience.
sitting on chair, simply = feeling
becoming aware of sitting on chair, simply =thought
typing letters, simply = feeling
seeing letters on screen, simply = seeing
recognition of words on screen, simply = thought
frustrations, simply = feeling / thoughts arising

That's all there is. All that can be found. Just the sensing and thoughts. It's only in believing thought content that a self is seen. I don't know where else to go with this.

Right. No "self" can be found.

Your experience of peace for a few weeks - did you find a "self" during that time?

Do you see that you may have already had the shift in perception? That was huge.

Yes, it is possible for a similar shift to happen again if you keep looking. Do you want to keep going? Has seeking stopped?

did you find a "self" during that time?
Yes, that's why I'm not sure if it is the shift we're looking for now. It felt like life was unfolding just as it should, and so I didn't have to worry. But there was still a definite self as far as I can remember.
Do you see that you may have already had the shift in perception? That was huge.
Yes, it was a huge experience for me. I returned to searching because that shift in perception didn't stay. I wasn't sure how I got there or to return to that experience. At the time I had never heard of 'no self', and when I did it seemed like it was something different from what I had experienced. I'm not sure if that's because it was a pre-awakening experience or if that was my initial awakening.
Do you want to keep going? Has seeking stopped?
I think maybe I need to just let things settle for a little while. The seeking has not stopped, but I'm getting to the point of feeling like I'm just tired of it all and don't feel like I'm making much progress.

Also, I realized a different way of interpreting what you were asking before, but maybe this is just unhelpful thought again? When I go to look for a self, the feeling is always in the head. The best I can describe it is a heaviness behind the face. I do recognize it is just another sensation, though.

Yes all sense self is a heavy feeling, the lie feeling, a contraction plus a story about it. Sensation plus thought. This is because self is a lie.

Sometimes it is good to take a break. Being stressed and not relaxed will prevent seeing.

Let me know what you want to do.
