I am remembering to do buttchair every now and then. And bringing myself back to direct experience as well. Any other recommendations at this time?

My birthday is June 18th! I remember last year I was communicating with you a lot at this time even when I was on my trip. How things are changing and shifting in my life at this time is quite rapid but I am excited!

I don't think so. You've got 24 pages plus my Dropbox plus the groups for suggestions here. Any one of them could help.

Have you tried Todd & Pernille's group?

Yes, we still have a monthly Inquiry Group that's free, and that they are welcome to join.

We also have our Discord community which is free too.

Todd might be especially helpful.

I'm part of their discord group and bought the First Fetter Course and could certainly get back to it. Thanks for those reminders!

Hi, I'm continuing on the pathless path. I'm attending Vince's group today and focusing on Angelo's videos, podcasts and meditation app.

Sometimes I find myself getting sleepy when focusing on awakening things- any meaning behind this or methods to employ?

Thanks,
Jazzmina

No. What is meaning, anyway? Just more thoughts.

You have SO many methods. but seriously. All you can do is LOOK.

Vince wrote:

The main impediment, as it shows up here, is the felt need to make something happen.

More specifically:
the seeker-pattern that keeps trying to reproduce, control, or get back to peace.

It shows up as:
wanting to know how the quiet happened
wanting to be able to do it again at will
turning calm into a result to be achieved
turning “letting go,” “surrender,” and “do nothing” into things a someone must do
looking for the right method, video, understanding, or inner move that will finally make awakening land

So if I isolate it as cleanly as possible:

Main impediment is the belief that awakening is something a “me” can produce, control, or attain in the future.

Underneath that, there’s a second layer feeding it:

The emotional flavour is the habitual orientation toward fixing discomfort and improving experience — the half-glass-empty reflex that interprets life as something that should be made different.

That is why even good pointers get turned into suffering:

“do nothing” becomes “how do I do do-nothing?”
“let go” becomes “I need to let go better”
“surrender” becomes “I must perform surrender”
a glimpse of peace becomes “how do I make that happen again?”

So the core obstacle is not lack of insight. It is not lack of practice. It is not lack of sincerity.

It is the selfing movement that immediately claims experience and tries to use it to get somewhere else.

Wanting peace is disturbing peace.
Wanting awakening is reinforcing the seeker.

The main impediment to “waking up” is the attempt to wake up.

What seems to most obstruct waking up is the deeply conditioned assumption that “I” can make it happen. You keep trying to reproduce peace, control insight, or perform surrender, and in doing so quietly reinforces the very self it longs to be free of. So the impediment is not lack of understanding, but the reflex to use every glimpse, practice, or pointer as a way to get somewhere else. In that sense, the obstacle is the effort itself — the movement of becoming, fixing, and attaining.

What if the one trying to wake up is the one being seen through?
What if the effort to arrive is what creates the sense of distance?
What if nothing is missing except the idea that something is missing?

much love

Thank you for your message. Yes, I feel at this point I am completely saturated in resources and pointings. I have watched that video before and read that artilce but it was excellet to revisit them both and be reminded of how simple this can be and yet how I am complicating it so much. I want so much to wake up. I have seemingly rearranged my life to allow this awakening journey to take center stage in my life with fewer distractions. Just Look. Just look.

I look and the mind swoops in with its constant chatter which I know is not a problem. I read through some of the first fetter Awakening Curriculum course today as well after Vince's group. I attended and just listened. Still feel very much on the outside of the Awakening club- I just can't seem to crack the code...

I feel a sense of frustration and urgency arising that I have been trying for so long to get it and still here I am.

That's right. There's nothing (the imaginary) you can do. Tension & frustration get in the way.

Relax and just look. Very simple advice- thank you. Yesterday, a friend also reminded me to be patient and allow myself to settle after I have made big changes in my life. I moved to a different island July 1st and am separated from my husband. I am in a much quieter peaceful space and want to have a simple life where I can focus a great deal on awakening.

Yes, you mentioned.

It us our natural state. It's always been the case that there's no "self." Just notice that.

Sounds so simple to just notice that there never has been a self. But yet I still can't see this natural state.

For you when you practiced ButtChair and had your realization shift, how often did you practice and for how long? I guess I'm looking for some direction. It seems just going along through my own leanings is not getting me anywhere. I know there's nowhere to go actually but feels like I keep circling the same place.

Thanks,
Jazzmina

Hi Jazzmina

I was terribly sporadic. I forgot for days & then remembered. I didn't practice all that long each time. And seeing happened when I was in my car at a stoplight
not practicing at all.

But the first time I saw no self was during a full weekend, which I have provided to you in my DropBox recordings. I was there.

Other people's examples are in Gateless Gatecrashers.

Hi there,

Sorry for a long gap. I am doing ok just working through life stuff. I will try to be more consistent with ButtChair and get in some of the Dropbox practices as I have them all saved on my computer.

I have been listening to Angelo podcasts too in the car but need to actually practice the practices and not do more learning about Awakening. He has good pointings though so I like those.

Thanks,
Jazzmina
