What is known for sure? Color is known and thoughts are known.

What about the content of thoughts, what they describe?
Actual experience does not refer to thoughts ABOUT something…because that is only just more thought.

Actual experience is sound, thought, color, smell, taste, sensation and the fact of thought arising, but not its content."
The content of thoughts are not directly known. Thoughts don't (can't) have a direct relationship with reality. They're a projection of mind stuff, not direct experience.
Is there really an ‘apple’ here, or only color and a thought ABOUT ‘apple’?
Only color and thoughts about an apple.

Can ‘apple’ be found in actual experience?
No. The thing that 'makes' this an apple is the content of thought, nothing in direct experience.

While these thoughts are known, what they talk ABOUT can't be found in actual experience.

This is what is meant by "looking in actual experience." What you know for sure, and, is always here.

Taste labeled ‘apple’ is known
Color labeled ‘apple’ is known
Sensation labeled ‘apple’ is known (when apple is touched)
Smell labeled ‘apple’ is known
Thought about/of an ‘apple’ is known

However, is an apple actually known?
No. I can't find anything in direct experience that I can use to know that that's an apple. Nothing . And clearly, thought can't access direct experience, nor can it influence direct experience.
Have fun and let me know what you find out.
Theres SO much here! And yet, nothing if I sit with direct experience.

I'm trying to digest it!

Thank you,

Guy

Good. You're getting it..

Not so much with only quoting the question. You don't need all the explanation. Just the question.

We don't need your reply in italics but I guess that's okay.

I wouldn't bother you with it, but the last thing we do is give you several questions to answer to be sure you've cleared everything and other guides will have to read them. It is much easier when only a question is in one quote and the answer to it underneath.

Anyway...

Did you see The Matrix?

Morning!

I love the Matrix :) It's such a classic. And that scene with the spoon ... Awesome. That part about only I can walk through the door ... really resonates.

Thank you for the feedback on my responses! I'll trim them down in terms of quoting what you wrote before the questions!

In terms of my progress so far ... I've learned a lot! And when I focus my mind on the question of whether there is a self or an "I", I'm clear that there isn't. I'm also clear that the "shift" hasn't happened, as far as I can tell. I seem to be ok with that, but wanted to be upfront about my internal progress. It all makes me wonder if there is some buried fear or something else that I'm not yet seeing. Reflecting, this seems more tied into a sense of wonder than it is urgency. urgency.

I think I might do some inquiry around the question "is there anything that I'm missing" or "what's unsceen in this moment" and then see what presents.

I'm deeply grateful for this process and your support!

That is not particularly useful here. All you need to do is LOOK

All you need to do is LOOK

Thank you, Stacy!

I'm looking but not yet seeing, at this moment.

After watching the video you linked in the last message, I know I want this, but perhaps I don't want it enough? I forget the exact wording in the video.

Would you be OK with me taking some time to sit with all this and then coming back to LU after some time has passed, perhaps with clarification questions? I feel like your support has provided me with what I need, I just need to sit with it. (I know, I really just need to LOOK)

Thank you for the help!

Ideally, you look (ONLY) most days & report here even if it's always the same.

Read Gateless Gatecrashers for examples, if you haven't.

"Sit with" often means "think about" and that won't work.

There are many more pointers, includingabout a dozen i have in my DropBox, but below is the main one to focus on;:

This is a pointer that may force you to look, not think:

ButtChair

Please LOOK for any place where your butt ends & the chair begins.

Is there any clear dividing line between them? Or only the Sensation with no clear division?

It is simple direct & nonverbal. Just LOOK.

Then write what is true.

I did only this and nothing else for 3 months and then saw. It crept up on me while I was sitting at a stoplight. Seeing often happens when we are simply relaxed and looking. I should say, it ONLY happens when we are relaxed and LOOKING. All of this thinking is useless. Truly.

But you're not required to continue here. Its your choice.

Thank you for the clarification.

Let's continue!
Is there any clear dividing line between them? Or only the Sensation with no clear division?
I only find sensation with no clear division.

And, I'll continue looking.

Thank you,

Guy

Good. Think of these as meditations.

They're only meant to create the conditions in which seeing may arise.

I keep instructing you to LOOK. This means LOOK with your eyes.

It is not difficult. It is not mysterious. In actual fact there is NOTHING THERE.

The *idea* of "self" is a lie feeling of contraction plus the lie thought of a "self." That's it.

"Enlightenment is an accident. Meditation makes us accident prone."

Sunryu Suzuki

We cannot predict it and we cannot make it happen. We can only practice the conditions in which it is more likely.

This frustrates the mind because it wants everything to be linear and logical and step-by-step, but this is not. It is non linear and unpredictable.

So relax & enjoy the process

.

Thanks for explaining that to me. I thought I was looking into all of direct experience, and for that last pointer (ButtChair) I was mostly focused on sensation. I didn't sense a boundary looking with sensation.

Thank you for the clarification!

This morning, standing by my microwave, my thoughts completely stopped. I've never seen my kitchen that way before, no stories, nothing. I'm calling it a glimpse, a reminder.

As for the work we're doing, I continue to "sit with" buttChair.

What's next?

With Gratitude,

Ty

Hi

Remember, I did only ButtChair for 3 months before I saw clearly. Why do you need a "next?"

NOW is next.

"Next" implies a future. So, lets look at Time.

Also, keep doing ButtChair and reporting what is found even if it's the same every time. This is not about right answers that you give once. It is about creating the conditions for seeing to occur.

Time Pointer

There is a general assumption that there is linear time that started (if started at all) somewhere very far in the past and advances to the distant future. The present moment (now) is considered to be a very small fragment of time, or an event that is moving forward on a linear line, coming from the past and advancing to the future.

But is there an experience of the ’now’ moving along the line of time?

Any experience of one ‘moment’ giving way to the next?

Is there any actual or direct experience of one event following another?

How fast is the ‘present moment’ actually moving?

Just look at 'this moment', can you find a point where it began?

How long does the ‘now’ last?

Where does the ‘now’ start, and where does it end?

When does the ‘now’ exactly become the 'past'?

What is the ‘past’ in actual experience?

So is there actual experience of ‘time’ or thoughts about ‘time’?

buttChair: exploring with sensation I don't feel a boundary, visually I do see my pant legg and the seat. I'll continue looking.

But is there an experience of the ’now’ moving along the line of time?
I can't find a line of time. Just the now. That other stuff is thought, lables and images. I'll continue with this one as well.

Will you let me know if you're not ok with me doing the time pointers one at a time?

Thank you,

Guy
