The narrator is distracting from an experience of totality - awareness. The narrator narrows awareness to a separated sense of ‘me’.
When following thoughts everything is from one view, one point - the self, yes.
The narration is based on old data while the universe is presenting fresh new data with each new moment.
Good point.
The narrator has the power to manipulate opinion & actions.
The narrator has a lot of power to determine good or bad.
If good, proceed
If bad, run or destroy
I get what you are talking about here, but, wait - isn't it a thought telling about this? Thought tells it has powers.... Does it?
But if the narrator is on catch up - making comments on things that have already happened, he is just adding story to how I feel anyway.
So in this respect he has no power or control
It’s an illusion
Easy to find out if the narrator is on catch up.
When does the "I do this, I decide this, ect" come before, during or after the action?
Wouldn't it stand to reason that if thoughts instigate something it would always be before action?

Life happens. I sleep, I get distracted. My life happens. All life happens.
Without the narrator or conductor.

Yes.

If I read something (for example - A revolutionary call to arms)
& then go out & kill some people because of what I’ve read. Where is the narrator here or cause/effect? What instigated this action. Who is responsible?

I’m a bit confused by this. But I explore more below.

Before
Tomorrow I will get up early & go for a swim

During
I am currently too tired to get up, I will stay in bed

After
Why didn’t you get up you lazy person!
Wouldn't it stand to reason that if thoughts instigate something it would always be before action?
I'm not sure I understand this logic

If I read something (for example - A revolutionary call to arms)
& then go out & kill some people because of what I’ve read. Where is the narrator here or cause/effect? What instigated this action. Who is responsible?
Where is a narrator found? Using direct looking?
The voice of thoughts?
Do thoughts have voice? Make a sound which can be heard, direct experience?

Have a look at these questions and then check by direct experience:
Where are they coming from and going to?
Did you do anything to make a particular thought or thoughts appear?
Could you have done anything to make a different thought appear at that exact moment instead?
Can you predict your next thought?
Can you select from a range of thoughts to have only pleasant thoughts?
Can you choose not to have painful, negative or fearful thoughts?
Can you pick and choose any kind of thought?
Is it possible to prevent a thought from appearing?

It seems that thought has some logical ordered appearance, but look carefully and just notice if there is an organised sequence? Or is that just another thought that says ‘these thoughts are in sequence’ or “they take content from previous thought”, or that ‘one thought follows another thought’?

Are you the thinker of thoughts?
Is there a narator?
Where is a narrator found? Using direct looking?

Before
Tomorrow I will get up early & go for a swim
Thought about future/phantasy
During
I am currently too tired to get up, I will stay in bed
Commentary, explanation offer
After
Why didn’t you get up you lazy person!
Commentary, judgement offer
There is a variation in thought, or?
When does the "I do this, I decide this, ect" come before, during or after the action?
This questions is about checking when does the command come, before, during or after an action, like lifting the arm.
Wouldn't it stand to reason that if thoughts instigate something it would always be before action?
If it is rule that a command by thought is needed for action - the command would always have to be before an action is started.
Is this true?

I have explored this a few times throughout the day & this question makes me feel like I’m going a bit insane! Lol

These questions come up
Do my thoughts just appear out of nothing? I cannot feel them, I cannot hear them
I look & cannot find a source

I hear the sounds of motorbike drive past outside. This triggers a thought.
Are my thoughts a reaction, created as a response to sensory input?

But then daydreams don’t seem to be directly related to the present sensory input.
Often appearing quite randomly & incongruent

Judgements of situation & others don't seem to obviously or directly relate to present sensory input.
Judgements seem to come about from established belief systems, thoughts on thoughts on thoughts.

Did you do anything to make a particular thought or thoughts appear?
No

It sometimes appears this way
E.g. I need to have a think about moving house, so i think about moving house
But what I ask myself, what was behind this initial thought? It just appears. Volition, inspiration, regret.
Could you have done anything to make a different thought appear at that exact moment instead?
No, because you said the words (at that exact moment) it simplified the question for me.

Investigating with direct experience
There is nothing I can do to make different thoughts appear in this exact moment.
I observe that I can sink into familiar patterns of thought but I have no control over this.
Something might grab my attention from outside like a bird or from inside like a body ache. Again, completely out of my control or even influence
Can you predict your next thought?
Absolutely not
Can you select from a range of thoughts to have only pleasant thoughts?
No
Can you choose not to have painful, negative or fearful thoughts?
No
Can you pick and choose any kind of thought?
No

Is it possible to prevent a thought from appearing?
No - but if you know how to do this, please let me know! lol

No, no logic
Rabbit holes - Flying down very fast
Going straight at times - seems like logic
But then darting off in every direction
random - very random
It’s weird how some thoughts are persistent, they keep coming back in the cycle
Are you the thinker of thoughts?
I used to think yes, but after these questions I don't think I can be

"I am a deep thinker?"
Mmmmmm

There is a ‘me’ that is trying to work all this stuff out…..
But i cannot sense the ‘me’ with direct experience.
So what is the ‘me’ that’s trying to make it through this maze?

Is there a narator?
No
Just thoughts

But I'm trying to get to the bottom of the 'me'
Who is the 'me' trying to do all this work with you.

It's (narrator) is now presenting as a feeling

Where is a narrator found? Using direct looking?
Again, using direct looking, nothing
but something is still there
It feels a little bit like I'm going in circles

Much Love

Judgements seem to come about from established belief systems, thoughts on thoughts on thoughts.
It is good to keenly differentiate between a thought, noticing it appearing in DE and thoughts content.
Daydream is a name for a thoughts content which relies to nothing which happens in the now, like memories. Right?
Judgement is another name for thoughts content.
Thoughts content never point to something which can be taken in by the senses.
It sometimes appears this way
E.g. I need to have a think about moving house, so i think about moving house
Aren't these all thoughts. "I need to think about something, that is why I do it"
Explanations are offered by thoughts the whole time, it is content pointing to nothing in direct experience.
Is it possible to prevent a thought from appearing?
No - but if you know how to do this, please let me know! lol
Sorry... ;-)
Are you the thinker of thoughts?
I used to think yes, but after these questions I don't think I can be
You answered all the above questions with no. If you would be the thinker you would be able to control thoughts, or?
There still can appear a thought with the content: "But but I can do it a bit" or so.

The only thing about thoughts one can say is they appear in direct experience, and they disappear again.
As you notice some thoughts turn up again and again - they seem to be habitual, too.
But I'm trying to get to the bottom of the 'me'
Who is the 'me' trying to do all this work with you.
If you watch a film there is a story about a person told - look closely at thoughts, what do they do?

Allow all this to sink in and then tell me how does the story of the separate entitiy called self come into existence?

I've been exploring this, I'm trying to use direct looking.

I'm going to need another day with it...

Take all the time you need.

The self appears in thoughts as content of thought. Examine and obverve how the story is woven, build up and reinforced.

Things still happen too quickly for me to see this for sure. That feeling/thought of me.

I feel like my investigation is getting more focused.

I feel like the illusion is breaking bit, I need to keep at it.

It’s a little like cat & mouse.

I catch myself thinking about me, I investigate...
& the sensations dissolve & the thought will often reveal itself, as a thought
Then, I’m back to me. This automated state of me.

I directly look, feel the sensations, hear sounds, thought is happening.

Then ‘self’ comes in. I observe thought is happening. There seems to be a moment where I am simply aware

Then I come away & it’s me again.

This is fine. Selfing will go on for a long time even after gating or will appear occasionally - nothing wrong with that.

Have you observed how this story comes to life? How does this happen?

I have been investigating this for a couple of days now.

I continue direct looking at the sense of self as simply a thought

I will report again tomorrow

Ah, in this case it is good if you listen to the content a bit, too. Very telling!
And it is always nice to have a look what of thoughts content point to can be found in DE. "A car" - ok, colour form, something is seen, but what is "yesterdays icecream was terrific." ?

I have been observing - a lot!
Including the content.

The ‘me’ thoughts come up. So important!
I’ve stepped away a number of times.

I was looking with a gentle ease, there seemed to be a lot of energetic activity in the brain. I ended up with a small headache.

The ‘me’ is a cloud in my head - densely entwined thoughts that seem to be unravelling

Allowing is the key. There is nothing outside of what is, all is an equal part, nothing has to disappear.
What changes is the understanding of what is what or isn't.

What is energetic activity in DE?
What is brain in DE?
Can one know in DE that brain exists and can one be sure about what it does?
The ‘me’ is a cloud in my head - densely entwined thoughts that seem to be unravelling
How is it known that thoughts are in the head.

Is there a cloud or merely lots and lots of thoughts pointing to a separate self?

Love,
Jadzia
