Seeking the end of Seeking
Re: Way of Suffering
Hi Sebastian,
Ok, let's continue. Now, as we do, if there is anything you are not comfortable doing, or thinking, then just say, and we will explore it in another way.
Take a few minutes, sit and settle down, and attend to breathing. Gentle breathing. In and out, in and out. Notice the qualities of breathing. The regularity, the pace, the effects on mood.
NEXT...
...continue breathing gently, and shift attention to the space between the breaths. Notice the qualities of space in-between. Notice what it's like to be in that space, even for a few seconds, before the next breath comes.
Ok, explore that, and share what you notice.
With best wishes,
John

Re: Way of Suffering
Hi John,
thanks for that exercise
breathing and pausing somehow merges. Its one stream with differently shaped waves. The substance is the same.
May I share some own experience regarding the "no self" issue or shall I totally follow your questions/guidance?
Kindly, Sebastian

Re: Way of Suffering
Actually I am not sure what I experienced. I just saw that "me" is a imagined "something" I cant dissolve. Its a illusion I cant dissolve.Hi Sebastian,
please do.
Thanks,
John
In imagination "I" seemed to be an imagined point in the head, a mirage, nothing real, no tension, its just there, cant grasp it. Maybe it was the reflection of "me" I am not sure actually. It confuses me a bit to think about it.

Re: Way of Suffering
Hi Sebastian,
Let's look around for signs of 'me'.
Check each toe, starting with the left foot, left little toe - any 'me' in there?
Go to each toe. Do not miss one out!
Then, do the same for each foot up to the ankle. Any 'me' in there?
Then, check calves, shins, up to and including the knee, front and back. Any 'me' in there?
Any 'me' in there at all?
Thanks,
John

Re: Way of Suffering
Actually there is nowhere a me in it. But still the feelings and thoughts are marked as me somehow.
Re: Way of Suffering
Hi Sebastian,
Arms, hands, elbows, shoulders, stomach, chest, hips, back.
Then neck, ears, mouth, eyes, scalp. "Any 'me' in there?"
Leave the feelings and thoughts for now.
Share what you discover.
Thank you,
John

Re: Way of Suffering
The intuitive answer says "yes, thats all me".
Re: Way of Suffering
Good. Let's use the face as an example. If we say: intuitively , the face all me, or the face is me, or made of me.The intuitive answer says "yes, thats all me".
What do we point to be the word 'me'?
What is being added beyond the flesh and bone?
Thanks,
John

Re: Way of Suffering
Its the thought "me" that is added to flesh and bones that makes appear the body as mine

Re: Way of Suffering
ok, explore this with an object like a cup.Its the thought "me" that is added to flesh and bones that makes appear the body as mine

Place it on a table. Notice object. Notice the thought/word/concept 'cup'. Notice what happens when the two are brought together. Notice what happens they are apart. So, just the object. No concept. What happens?
Thanks,
John

Re: Way of Suffering
It was not easy to get into this exercise but I would say that the sense of separation is stronger if there is the concept of an object applied. If there is just the object it feels more connected, more part of unity, the underlying peace of existence shines more through.
