Thanks for looking into that.
I think I've lost the tread of what's happening here, so I'll check back periodically and see if you've posted.
Thanks for your willingness Sarah. Sorry it was hard to connect.
I will continue on either way with what you've already given me -
Blessings.

Hi Colette - do you wish to continue? Hugs Sarah xxx
C: Yes! - was thinking about looking at where to begin again all night - have installed instant msgr on phone so I'll know when you respond. Inner voice and dialog key to a sense of "knowing" that says 'I know', relentless reoccurrence. Arises in relationship to world and ideas of doing. Ownership of action, thought. Notice it veils present awareness of where the physical body is in space\location. Disorienting. Disassociating. Am going to repeat exercise this am - direct narration - shortly. Perhaps that will elucidate. It seems clearer and clearer something is making this up - fantasy, imagination, drama.
Hi Colette Lets start with a quote from one of your posts
'Noticed release tonight ... relaxation when it became clear that experience is also not proof of separate "I", and further, that what has not been given up is all these ways "I" distracts to keep one/me in imagination, stirring up emotions seems to be effective. a general state of 'upset'.
S: Lets have a look at thoughts. Do you see that thoughts are real but content isn’t? Can you discern a point of origin for a thought? A place where thoughts come from? Can you discern a point of destination for a thought? A place where thoughts go to? Or do they just arise and pass?

S: What is your direct experience of specific sensations? List them in detail. What is your direct experience of specific thoughts? List them in detail. Do you notice the thoughts before or after the sensations? What is the relationship between them? In other words, what do the thoughts say about the sensations? What is your direct experience of specific emotions? List them in detail. Do you notice the emotions before or after the sensations and thoughts? What is the relationship among them? Focus and magnify until you see how it all works together. You'll begin to notice that sensations usually come first (tightness in the pit of the stomach), followed by thoughts that stick labels on the sensations ("That's fear I'm feeling"), followed by a full-blown emotional response ("I'm afraid"). Do you notice that in your experience? Do you see how the thoughts work like a labelling machine? Now look at this facet of the labelling machine: When you notice a thought "I feel fear," what is that "I"? When you notice a thought "I feel alone," what is that "I"? When you notice a thought "I feel like a failure," what is that "I"? When you notice a thought "I can't figure this out," what is that "I"? When you notice a thought "I felt a lot better before," what is that "I"? What does "I" refer to in those thoughts? Can you point to it? Does it have a shape, size, colour, sound, fragrance, feel? Or are there just thoughts appearing in experience, one after the other? Is a self necessary in order for the thought "I am crap" to arise? Is a self necessary in order for self-obsessive feelings to arise? When there is no thought, where are you? You had started to look at this, so let's begin here. Ok?
Hugs Sarah xxx
C: I am part waythrough - here it is so far (when I ask a question in the detail reporting, I am not asking anyone, I am redirecting myself, and when I write, there is no "I", it is arising to me in that moment that way, not as an attempt to redirect!) –
S: Lets have a look at thoughts.
Do you see that thoughts are real but content isn’t?
C: I’ve been looking at this more clearly – and found the sense that things are real, like being engrossed in entertainment, it is coming and going but top of mind as I am watching.
S: Can you discern a point of origin for a thought? A place where thoughts come from? Can you discern a point of destination for a thought? A place where thoughts go to? Or do they just arise and pass?

Re: Ready and willing - looking for guide, thanks!
C: The cycle of arising and passing is clearer now, and the cycles shorter for what before culd grip me quite strongly. There is no place thought comes from or that it goes to, it simply is until it passes. And there was a glimpse that life is the same, there is life now, and then life will be extinguished, just like thought. Happening but without anything to do about it.
S: What is your direct experience of specific sensations? List them in detail.
C: Back hurts. Head hurts, dehydrated. Pressure. Pressure, highlighted, to the fore, in awareness, not direct, what is direct? … movement, warmth, pressure, pressure pressure inside pressure, tight, neck tight too, thick and heavy. Hard. Immobile, waiting, stiff, moving, jumping from place to place, first back, then throat constricts, sorrow begins, no, that’s not direct, what is sorrow, throat constricting, moving back to the back and beck, jumping jumping from place to place. Now drowsy, eyes burning, now all three at once, wrists tight, heavy burning eyelids, yawn, passes, it all passes…
S: What is your direct experience of specific thoughts? List them in detail.
C: Tuesday: waiting, stuck, anger, where is timelessness? Fantasy, shape of time, this is not direct, what is this compulsion, desperate need for release, pressure from no-where, some source ‘petal to the metal’, metal on metal, hot, hard, demanding, not-self, other, happening to me but me – disliking, hearing water drip, breath, calming, release, gratitude, red toenail, breathing, don’t know, can’t know, expression release, curiosity, why? Where am I? – nowhere, expression and writing noise, blank…. Intellect, investigating, me investigating, room disappears, turned inward, removed from body, body quiet, now this writing noisy, breath, disliking, want sound to stop, victim, empty quiet body, realize 1st missed first thought, pressure to formulate, to catch first thought before pressure, body more and more tight, insanity from pressure. Who is pressuring? – “I” am pressuring. There is no “I” – pressure forms from thoughtless-thought of a hate hate arising. Impatient, want it now, need it now, pressure building at that thought, body fidgeting, No “I” that needs ot know now. Peace.
S: Do you notice the thoughts before or after the sensations?
C: Sometimes yes, sometimes I miss the thought.
S: What is the relationship between them? In other words, what do the thoughts say about the sensations?

C: I’ve been looking at this more clearly – and found the sense that things are real, like being engrossed in entertainment, it is coming and going but top of mind as I am watching.
S: What is sense here – thoughts or senses like touch? Or emotion?
C: The cycle of arising and passing is clearer now, and the cycles shorter for what before culd grip me quite strongly. S: OK – first part well seen – stick to that. Can you see the rest is story here? Not trying to insult but thoughts are explaining and adding to experience – can you see that?
C: Feeling I suppose... Yes. But was being detailed about process so it was exposed. No offense taken. Aware it is 97% story, so now ... (?)
C: Sometimes yes, sometimes I miss the thought.
S: Don’t worry about that – forgetting happens.
C: There just isn't that much going on directly... so not much to 'do' - So how do I get at the obstinate stupidity if not to expose it? Was showering recently, water isn't even wet! - that's a story too
S: What is the relationship between them? In other words, what do the thoughts say about the sensations?
C: Thought makes sensation into feeling/emotional story.
OK – so lets have a look at a sensation up close. Lets take pressure. Where is pressure felt? How is it felt? OK – so have a look at the thoughts trying to attach to pressure – is there labelling? Is pressure a problem for a single thought? What happens between the thoughts – is pressure still a problem? Is there description? Is there history? Is there story? Is there a habitual response to pressure? Does one thought lead to another – or is one thought just following another? Is there past references in pressure? Is there any future thoughts in there? Did you bring any of these thoughts? Can you stop them? Control them in any way? Do you send them away?
OK so now look around the thoughts or under them or over them – can you do that? Deep breathe. Just sit with the pressure. Allow it if possible – if not no worries come to it another time. Look at the sensation only. Does it come and go or constant? Does it move around? Look at it as if you have never seen it before. Go to the sensations and check under the label and story. Is unpleasantness added by thought? Look as new born baby – you know nothing but the current experience – is it really unpleasant? Go to the sensation – turn down the volume of the thoughts – is it a problem? If you don’t think about it, do you know that this sensation is something labelled or called pressure? Go to the sensation located at the sole of your foot or elbow – would you call that sensation pressure? Now compare these 2 sensations – the neutral soles of the feet/elbow to the labelled sensation in the chest or where ever – whats the difference between them? Don’t refer to the labels – just refer to the sensations. Is one more intense? Like a headache? If you don’t refer to your thoughts is it unpleasant? Can you see how the thoughts get mixed up with the sensation? Is there an ‘I cant’ in there – that’s a thought. Is there an ‘I don’t want’ in there – that’s a thought. Go past the thought to the body sensation. Can you detect interpretation of the sensation? Thoughts again. Can you see the labels thought is trying to add - like – ‘this is …..’, ‘this is unpleasant’ or ‘this has been here for so long’? None of these thoughts actually belong to the sensation. See the thoughts but place them to one side. Without these thoughts would you know what these sensations were?
The constriction is caused by thought. The tension is caused by thoughts. What happens as the sensation is relieved of its labels?

Re: Ready and willing - looking for guide, thanks!
S: OK Colette - you may need to copy and look at this in Word or something - take your time - if not pressure then choose another sensation that is regularly felt. OK! Come back with any questions or whats noticed. Hugs Sarah xxx
C: Yes, I follow you and no, there is no difference unless there is story. But there is story unless I stop story. It arises too. Pressure is mixed with disliking in the first case.
S: How do you stop story?
C: So is the practice to stop story or see story for what it is? Whoops. That was at same time. How do I stop story? By looking at it. When I do, the meaning passes
S: If you could do that - wouldn't you have done it? Permanently? Is that you stopping or seeing and noticing? Are you wanting thoughts to stop? Or just certain ones?
C: When the meaning passes, the story stops. Until the next time. Yes, my point is that I am missing something in the process... I'm stopping story in the moment, not as a final state, which is why I am in contact with you. I make no claims... I am speaking the experience. Btw: I'm confused as to what I'm to tell you as anything but direct perception is story. And you don't want the direct living experience, only the direct perception, so what to tell you if not my ignorance! - well, at least I'm on track with tracking, so that's something!
Hi Colette
C: So is the practice to stop story or see story for what it is?
S: There is seeing and noticing – but it is not a practise. What wants? What wants to do, to solve, and to cure? Is that a thought? Can you see it? The questions I gave for pressure can be used to look at want as well.
C: When the meaning passes, the story stops
S: Do you mean when thoughts stop so does story?
C: Yes, my point is that I am missing something in the process... I'm stopping story in the moment, not as a final state, which is why I am in contact with you. I make no claims... I am speaking the experience.

S: Yes I want you to relate your experience, and forgive me if I misunderstand you. There is no criticism meant – Im just pointing. Just relate what is noticed like - I see story, I notice thoughts etc. Perception is story yes – and it is also directly experienced.
Are you wanting thoughts to stop? Or just certain ones? What would want that? Out of thought can you find a ‘you’ that does ‘want’ anything? What do thoughts control?

Re: Ready and willing - looking for guide, thanks!
C: Been looking at what wants - the solidity and density of 'i'-ness is lessoning, the wanting is of pleasantness. Who is wanting? - still difficulty seeing the story of emotion. It isn't a personal story but one of general chemical waves of happy and dispare. Subtle. Not sure what to say. Nothing to say but more story about it. 'I' is fleeting, irregular, nothing and then dense. That's what's happening now - xoxo!
Hi Colette
C: Been looking at what wants - the solidity and density of 'i'-ness is lessoning,
S: Do you want ‘I’ ness to go? Is that likely – when you know as said below that it comes and goes all the time? What would want I-ness to go? Is it a thought – like ‘I want I-ness to go’ or ‘its back’!? Can you see this thought? No need to do anything else but see it? It may be a slippery little beggar!
C: Who is wanting? - still difficulty seeing the story of emotion. It isn't a personal story but one of general chemical waves of happy and despair.
S: Is despair a label and is happy? Not trying to make less of what is felt here. What does despair look like? Feel like? Where is it felt? Don’t go to thoughts here just look at it – can you do that? Does it move or is it constant? What you ‘know’ of despair – is it thoughts saying despair is this or that? Is despair resisted and happy wanted? Is the resistance made up of thoughts?
C: 'I' is fleeting, irregular, nothing and then dense.
S: YES! It comes and goes. Well seen! Is the I-ness followed by lots of thoughts when it turns up?
Hugs Sarah xxx
C: Oh yes, good! - yes, there is wanting I - ness to go. Let be. Thanks! - will report back.
C: Was working through a concept in the night for a book that has been going on for a few years about duality and was thinking about the Tao when suddenly it became clear, it's all a story, concepts on top of direct experience. Cat out of sorts peed on foot of bed but there was no fear of how to fix or teach her, just cleared it up went for tea. Doubts began to stir the mind for the lack of concern and ease of flow, but passed. To type to you subtle fear to articulate as if delicate but that's more story. Timid about language as if it could create I, ME, and MINE just by use - the longer I write the more it seems there is imagination to tell you, to report ABOUT it. Will report back later as day progresses... Thank you!!!

S: Well seen! But don’t be afraid to use language – we need that communicate! It does have its uses! Now – what is feeling awkward about the words? Is that just a feeling to with story attached? If so just see it. No need to do anything else! OK – so know tell me what power thought has? What can thought actually ‘do’? Have a really good look. Please don’t hesitate to bring up anything here – don’t answer from belief – answer from experience – does that make sense?

If so just see it. No need to do anything else! OK – so know tell me what power thought has? What can thought actually ‘do’? Have a really good look. Please don’t hesitate to bring up anything here – don’t answer from belief – answer from experience – does that make sense?

Re: Ready and willing - looking for guide, thanks!
C: Thought scares me with nightmarish dread of what MIGHT or COULD happen. Thought doubts and doubt proliferates. The doubt feels hard, unyielding, inflexible, dense... then it passes. A form of thinking that is light (inspiration) conceives to do, then doubt/fear arises about the first thought and proliferates before recognizing what has happened. Thought confuses, confusion doubts - with confusion arises subtle affliction - disliking the state, with doubt stronger disliking - and I doubt like the disliking! - was very lost and confused as a child, isolated, which drove me to understand. With each new arising, often unsure what to do/respond/say, thinking gets muddled... often won't form into timely response. Socially awkward. What is awkward is being slow to get social cues... that is also the pressure. To get it, to know, to respond in a way that pleases others. It begins with thought confused by arising condition, then proliferates. So per your question, what can thought actually do, nothing unless it is missed. Then it can be the root of ignorance which leads to more until it is caught. I'm afraid of its web as there is something I haven't seen, so I still get caught in delusion. Typo above, I dislike the disliking, not doubt it Hahaha... I should doubt it! Kidding, but that is experience of thought and what it can do.
Hi Colette
C: Thought scares me with nightmarish dread of what MIGHT or COULD happen.
S: Does thought bring emotion? Or does emotion come and then thought comes in describing and creating story?
C: Thought doubts and doubt proliferates.
S: Can thought think?
C: then doubt/fear arises about the first thought and proliferates before recognizing what has happened.
S: But you do see this after – no worries if seeing doesn’t happen at the time – you see and notice after! That needs a smile!
C: Thought confuses, confusion doubts
S: Is this thought making a link between emotion and thought? Have a look and see if there is just emotion with thoughts describing?
C: and I dislike the disliking!
S: and with that dislike – is there resistance to it? Can you see that dislike is a thought story – not the emotion – have a look.
C: So per your question, what can thought actually do, nothing unless it is missed. Then it can be the root of ignorance which leads to more until it is caught. I'm afraid of its web as there is something I haven't seen, so I still get caught in delusion.
S: OK – now look closely at what is said here – Is all of this thought – is so then to what does it make a difference?
What would comment on whether it has been missed or not? What is afraid? What comments if things aren’t as they would like?
Again – can thoughts think? Can they do anything? Where is there power outside of thought?

HI Sarah! -
S: Does thought bring emotion? Or does emotion come and then thought comes in describing and creating story?
C: a huge game changer – in discussion with a teacher of mine about 6 years ago, I had asked her about afflictive emotion. She asked, which comes first, emotion or thought? When I looked at my experience, the emotion came first, and then thought proliferated. She said, no, you missed a subtle thought BEFORE that which is causing the affliction. I politely disagreed for a coue years every time it came up, but she won me over with the idea that I could control emotion if I caught the first thought! – so I’ve been looing for it ever since (to catch it so I don’t proliferate into emotion). But it doesn’t appear to me that way. It appears that emotion begins, and thought reacts imeediately trying to break it down, see why, find the thing I missed! – this looking for original thought has also caused a weird locking into mental perception that doesn’t validate direct experience. As I’ve looked at it now, the emotion begins to arise, and as I see it, there is either liking or disliking the feeling, and then when I look closer, there is no emotion. There is only sensation of tugging, shallow breath, something begin to arise to want to control. But when I look, there is no one there.
Driving to vet day before yesterday, body kept convulsing (cat was very ill) – tears welling uncontrollably. Could really feel the strength of wanting to proliferate about loss which would intensify the experience. Kept letting it go and back to the sensations.
A question came up in the mind: Why are we HERE? – (Kinda like some futile feeling in the face of loss) – and then I realized there wasn’t anyone here. There was just the feeling that there is.
S: Can thought think?
C: I don’t quite get this one? – perhaps expand?
S: But you do see this after – no worries if seeing doesn’t happen at the time – you see and notice after! That needs a smile!
C: Yaayyy!
S: Is this thought making a link between emotion and thought? Have a look and see if there is just emotion with thoughts describing?
C: Yes!
S: and with that dislike – is there resistance to it? Can you see that dislike is a thought story – not the emotion – have a look. C: OK – this is where I am now, am going to watch for this, and below “to what does this a difference”.
(S: OK – now look closely at what is said here – Is all of this thought – is so then to what does it make a difference? )

Re: Ready and willing - looking for guide, thanks!
Hi Colette. Am on a weekend away so am answering on my pad, so will have to do it one question ate time!
C: the emotion begins and thought reacts immediately.
S: Well seen! Keep verifying! Keep looking at. What is actually experienced! NEVER take mine or anyone else's word for anything! What wants to control? What wants anything but what is happening now? Can you see that?
S: Can thought think. So what can thought do? Is there just one thought followed by another thought and the third thought appears to make a link between thought a and b? Thoughts appear to convince but can they? Can a thought have a conscious thought about another thought? Or is there just one thought appearing followed by another thought? So keep looking for the resistance thought and the dislike Story? And to what does it make a difference. happy hunting!
C: Oh wow, 'can a thought have a conscious thought about another thought' - something is separating out... will 'chew on'. Thank you!
Hey Sarah - So it just seems never ending emotions and looking for the disliking 'story' - but only finding disliking of the emotions. Looking at the sensations brings some temporary ease again, then more disliking. There doesn't seem to be more thought in terms of a story line, just not liking, and it goes on and on (perhaps that's the story, that it's a continuation). Anyway, just checking in. Experiencing no insight or progress... just not liking emotion for days now... and looking for why that is upsetting with no luck, just subtle upset. hope all is well! Xoxo
Hi Colette
C: So it just seems never ending emotions and looking for the disliking 'story' - but only finding disliking of the emotions. Looking at the sensations brings some temporary ease again, then more disliking. So what doesn’t like? Is it a thought? Can you see it – the ‘I don’t like thought’? What is not satisfied with what is? Thoughts again? What is not liking story thoughts? Thoughts again? And what is wanting thoughts and story thoughts and not liking thoughts to stop? Another thought? So what is bothered by all this thinking? Thoughts????? LOL!!!!! Do you see? Thoughts not liking thoughts! What can these thoughts do – can a thought stop a thought, bring a new thought, change the future, and change the present? Can a thought change a mood or an emotion? Is so be happy right now! Now! Does a thought listen to other thoughts – do you actually experience that? Does a thought think? What can thoughts do! Hugs Sarah xxx
C: Ha! - no, I couldn't see what was not liking - too caught up in not liking! But now that you point it out, that helps a lot! - not quite to LOL, but closer!! - hahaha... ya, and what is taking everything so seriously?? - a thought. Dang girl... frustrating. And the only thing frustrated is a thought of not getting it!
C: I don't know what's happening... heeheee ... it's so quiet upstairs. Not controlling, not concerned, not upset... A bunch of not but not a whole lot of there there! - ha!! Not gripping. Was in a mineral bath Saturday looking at who/what wanted things to be different... then at dinner with a man I just met Friday that I like (first one of interest in a decade) - and when it all didn't go as planned, there was the edge of an old reaction but in seeing it, it just ended. And I was like, hmmmm, no one here seems to mind which way it goes!!! - LOL! - went to write you yesterday but had nothing to say. I seem to be flowing from this to that without much consideration or thought. But when I speak to people it is also the same uninterrupted whatever... so what to say!!! - by all means prod away. Let's see what this is! xoxo!!!

Hi Colette
Lets have a little check and see where we are. Have you been able to find, a ‘self’ that is the ‘experiencer’? Or a self that is the doer, or can control what happens? Or a self that ‘makes’ decisions? Or a self who ‘does the thinking’? Is the "body" just another thought label for sensations (namely tactile & kinesthetic)? Are the five body senses made to arise or experienced by this ‘self’? Is there a self ‘in here’ which is separate from the world and others ‘out there’?
Is there doubt or un-clarity that in all these cases the ‘self’ is nothing other than a mental fabrication?
Hugs Sarah xxx
S: Have you been able to find, a ‘self’ that is the ‘experiencer’?
C: There is experience, but no experience. And as I write that, there is tugging in the belly. But it is only sensation. Story about it begins to form, and then there is recognition there is only sensation.
S: Or a self that is the doer, or can control what happens?
C: There is doing, and there is something which thinks it controls, but it is only a thought of control.
S: Or a self that ‘makes’ decisions?
C: there is deciding, and thinking about deciding, but there is no one in the process of the decision.
S: Or a self who ‘does the thinking’?
C: Thinking happens. Story happens. And there is calling this “I” – and “me” – but that is a reference point of experience, not an experience.
S: Is the "body" just another thought label for sensations (namely tactile & kinesthetic)?
C: seemingly so. This point causes subtle reaction. Body has desire to protect physical body – but why? – I don’t know. There is some kind of sense of thickness here not found elsewhere. It doesn’t say “I”. There is no upset about it. It does however contract when turning to look at it. The story is guilt, shame, fraudulence – it is subtle. Not strong as before.
S: Are the five body senses made to arise or experienced by this ‘self’?
C: no.
S: Is there a self ‘in here’ which is separate from the world and others ‘out there’?
C: No.There is a point of view.
S: Is there doubt or un-clarity that in all these cases the ‘self’ is nothing other than a mental fabrication?
C: There is something holding here, subtle. Subtle doubt tied into protecting the body. So there is the idea that something could die. But in all other cases there is nothing. Here, there is subtle grasping. Here is the fear to die. But there is no one to die – so little confusing. Isn't strong - is a thought. Heading to soak (I live in a mineral bath town) – will look more, see what this doubt is. investigate. Thank you! xoxo!!
C: PS - two typos, twice referenced there is experience but no experiencer. The 'r' didn't take. Continuing to look at this subtle confusion/uncertainty...
C: ... 'presence', which seems to be linked to the body, has a sense of self. Investigating what I mean by that, for what is this sensibility of presence and what is self? - I get the self is story, but presence... What IS presence if not a self, as presence arises and seems inextricably a self. Continue to look. xoxo!
S: Is there a self ‘in here’ which is separate from the world and others ‘out there’?
C: No. There is a point of view.
S: do you mean an opinion here? Or perception?
S: Is there doubt or un-clarity that in all these cases the ‘self’ is nothing other than a mental fabrication?

S: Is there a ‘you’ to be found to protect? Is there an exact point where this fear is? Can you point to what it points to? Is it seen that this fear is thought based? Is it thought based? Is it a future thought? What knows this fear is thought based?
