Re: Interested in working with a guide
1) Is there a separate entity 'self', 'me' 'I', at all, anywhere, in any way, shape or form? Was there ever?
There is no separate entity “self” at all and there never was.
2) Explain in detail what the illusion of separate self is, when it starts and how it works from your own experience ...

Re: Interested in working with a guide
Can it be known how tall the body is? Does the body have a weight or volume? In direct experience does the body have a shape or a form?
Without thoughts or mental images extracted from memory, it can’t be known how tall the body is and the body doesn’t have a shape or form. There is a mental image ...

Re: Interested in working with a guide
With the body moving on its own, how many thoughts are truly needed to live life?
Thoughts are not truly needed to live life. Thoughts just reference something about life, but life happens on its own independent of thoughts.
Is there a self in control of this process of 'awakening'?
No

How is the movement controlled?
The movement arises by itself and it is not controlled
- Does a thought control it?
A thought doesn’t control it.

Re: Interested in working with a guide
Now keep coming back to the feeling of self behind the eyes/in the head. Where is the self?
There is nothing tangible or concrete behind the eyes in direct experience and there is no self.

- The sensations behind the eyes, is that I/self?

Re: Interested in working with a guide
It cannot be just thoughts, because then it wouldn't have any reference to something else, making the illusion feel real.
The illusion of self is created when two or more of these building blocks are intertwined.

Re: Interested in working with a guide
When I break down the sense of self behind the eyes into its building blocks, it appears that it is made of thoughts. Can you write down and describe which building blocks are required to create the illusion of self in the head/behind eyes?

Re: Interested in working with a guide
In fetter 4-5, you're not looking for a self that needs to react, but for a mechanism that makes the reaction happen. You sit with the primary sensations, and you watch if there is a connection to a reaction.
All that said, it's probably best to 100% focus on fetter 1 for our inquiry here.

Re: Interested in working with a guide
What about the content of thoughts, what do they describe?
The contents of thought describe labels and an idea of an “apple” but don’t actually describe the direct experience of what’s actually there.
Is there really an ‘apple’ here, or only color and a thought about ‘apple’?
