Hi Vivien,
Great stuff, thanks for taking the time to run me through this investigation, really appreciate it. :)
I'll definitely keep you in mind should I ever want to take on Skype lessons.
Thanks again!

Re: Confusion - Which approach to pursue?
Hi Vivien,
Is awareness and what appears are two different things?
Is this awareness separate from anything?
No, awareness is not a thing that is separate from life. I just struggle to word this without it sounding dualistic.

Re: Confusion - Which approach to pursue?
Hi Vivien,
1) Is there a separate entity 'self', 'me' 'I', at all, anywhere, in any way, shape or form?
Was there ever?
No, the 'I' never existed. It is just a story created by thought. A labelling of certain sensations/perceptions as 'me'. In DE these sensations and perceptions are just objects ...

Re: Confusion - Which approach to pursue?
Hi Vivien,
So how does the seeing that there is no separate self in reality translate into your daily life?
Daily life has stayed the same except that things feel lighter. When it's clearly seen that there is no separate self, there is a wave of relief since the mind is not so focused on judging ...

Re: Confusion - Which approach to pursue?
Hi Vivien,
How does it feel to see this?
What is the difference between a happening and a doing?
Happening feels lighter, hard to describe a specific feeling since a feeling of just another appearance in consciousness. But things just feel lighter, there is nothing to do and no one to do ...

Re: Confusion - Which approach to pursue?
Hi Vivien,
What do you know about clothing and chair with closed eyes?
Does the sensation know or communicate in any way that it’s the ‘touching of clothing or chair’?
How many sensations are there? One for the skin and another for the clothing or the chair?
I do not know about the clothing ...

Re: Confusion - Which approach to pursue?
Hi Vivien,
What is this desire to find the I is made of? Is it anything else but a thought, with the content/words “I want to know who I am’?
What/who is thinking that thought?
Yes, the desire to find an I is just a thought that appears. It's no different to any other thought.
But any claim ...

Re: Confusion - Which approach to pursue?
Hi Vivien,
When you say that thoughts vanish when they are observed, you are talking about thoughts considering whether to by the shoes or not, or do you mean that all thoughts stop?
The thoughts about the shoes stop, but when pretty much any thought is observed clearly, it seems to stop in it ...

Re: Confusion - Which approach to pursue?
Hi Vivien,
I actually had a similar scenario happen naturally today which I thought could be good to use, although it wasn't to do with food. While working today on my laptop I came across a pair of shoes that I really liked. There was a desire to buy them.
What is it that is considering these ...

Re: Confusion - Which approach to pursue?
Hi Vivien,
So what is here ‘underneath’ or ‘besides’ thoughts?
There is awareness before, during and after thought. There is an undeniable sense of aliveness, and yet this cannot be found in any observable object.
No observable object in DE is sentient in itself, but yet there is an aliveness ...

Re: Confusion - Which approach to pursue?
Hi Vivien,
Thanks for the reply. I practiced this exercise numerous times today.
What is it exactly that is choosing which hand to raise?
Can you find a self/me or anything that is doing the choosing?
I can't find anything choosing which hand gets raised.
There is no 'me' choosing which hand ...

Re: Confusion - Which approach to pursue?
Hi Vivien,
Is there a thought + the knowing of it?
Is there a dividing line between a thought and the knowing of it?
Where does the thought end and the knowing of it starts?
The knowing cannot be found. Only the thought can be found. There is no dividing line.
Despite a 'knowing' not being able ...

Re: Confusion - Which approach to pursue?
Hi Vivien
How do you know that?
Is this something that is seen (that things appear IN awareness), or is this something you’ve learned from others?
Is Awareness anything more than as concept for explaining something, similarly, like Reece is an idea/concept, too?
Saying that seeing, hearing ...
