Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

Hi Dridhamati
In answer to the question "are you completely clear about seeing through the self-illusion directly?"

Yes, I am. I have complete confidence in that.

Previous to this dialogue my inner landscape and compass were based on a clear intellectual knowledge of the self-delusion. In ...

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

Hi Dridhamati
A phantom? Could you please expand here?
I just meant that the idea of ‘my self’ is now clearly seen as a construct with no substance, permanence, inherent existence. In the past, my idea of ‘my self’ had acquired ‘substance’ and those other attributes. In direct seeing, the idea of ...

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

4) What was the last bit that pushed you over, made you look?

It was your question earlier on this dialogue about feeling where you asked:

Does experience have qualities such as pleasant, or unpleasant, soothing, threatening, etc?

That question seemed to be coming from a context familiar to ...

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

Hi Dridhamati
Sorry it's taken me a few days to reply. I thought I could send you my responses so far. Can we wait until I've responded to all them before carrying on? I should be finished by the weekend.

1) Is there a separate entity 'self', 'me' 'I', at all, anywhere, in any way, shape or form ...

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

Hi Dhridhamati
Looking in direct experience, is it really the thought (‘No agent seems to exists’) that stopped the feet, or is this just another thought, a construct that establishes a causal relationship?

What I wrote wasn’t very clear. On the stairs, direct looking had stopped. And I started ...

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

22) 31 October / 1 November

Hello
So if this self cannot be found, located, can it be said to exist?
No, this self can not be said to exist.

Also, remember the exercise with raising the arms? Please try it again and this time look, in direct experience, for an agent responsible for the action ...

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

So, looking in direct experience, please tell me: where is this "self", this "enduring, separate 'thing'"? Can it be located, pinpointed?

Looking. Not finding any "self", "enduring, separate ‘thing’". No location for such a “thing”. No “thing” being pinpointed.

:-) Cheers

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

Hi there,
When you said: Is there anything you wish to share, anything that needs explaining?
No. Penny has dropped now, I’m pretty sure. Looking at what I wrote: There’s the image now ……inner space behind her.

I am now laughing. Tricycle seem to be sending happily relevant quotes over in this ...

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

Hi Drdhamati,
I was disheartened after reading your last post. But I take the point of what this dialogue is concerned with.

So carrying on.
You wrote: So while this is in agreement with the experience here, how is this conclusion informed:
1 from sustained observation of direct experience?
Or ...

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

Hi there,
You said:
OK, so what needs to be done now, is look at experience as it immediately
-or directly- happens, 'before vedana' so to speak.
And the question remains:
Does experience have qualities such as pleasant, or unpleasant, soothing, threatening, etc?

Before vedana arises, sense ...

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

Hiya,
Dridhamati wrote: Does experience have qualities such as pleasant, or unpleasant, soothing, threatening, etc?

Yes, experience has feeling-tone, using that word to indicate vedana, and noticing that the same feeling-tone doesn’t always arise in response to the same/similar event on different ...

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

Hi Dridhamati,
You said: are there any differences in the inherent nature of these felt senses [I resist / it's unpleasant] and all the other felt senses about nature [...Nature is often very pleasing...]?

No inherent anythings. Just experience. Coming and going. If there's nothing inherent ...

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

Hi Dridhamati
Sorry for the delay in replying. Was at the Scottish Green party conference over the weekend. Then had to catch up on our game against Samoa.

You said: Isn't this a paradox?
Yes it is a paradox. It is stating the same thing in a different way and I felt that as I was writing it. The ...

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

Hi Dridhamati,

You wrote:
The 'self, me, mine' is an entirely constructed notion, which has no observable basis for existence. In other words, 'I, Kulaprabha' has no more inerent permanent existence as last night's dream.

I have a inner nodding response when I read the words. They’re familiar ...

Re: Marlene H (requesting Dridhamati)

Hi Dridhamati,
Just to tidy up a few things....

Yes, I've read the disclaimer.

About what to call me - these days I tend not to use Kulaprabha on public sites, so I used Marlene to enroll here. I'm happy for you to use Kulaprabha since as far as I can make out this thread is one-to-one, ie just ...
