Receptive of support toward oneness

Postby brightmeadow » Sat Jan 13, 2018 8:23 am

LU is focused guiding for seeing there is no real, inherent 'self' - what do you understand by this?
I understand that LU can provide guidance in helping me to really know that I am not separate, but that I am a part of everything. I am not my personality nor my collection of life experiences. I have had glimpses of this, but do not fully realize this. I understand it, but do not completely experience it.

What are you looking for at LU?
I have been devoting time and energy toward experiencing enlightenment or the realization on non duality. I was motivated to register with LU as I was practicing self inquiry as to the nature of myself. I feel I need some guidance and assistance. It has been a difficult process for me. I am very impressed with the site and how so many people have been helped with the generosity of this open hearted community.

What do you expect from a guided conversation?
I expect to connect with someone who is much more experienced than I who can help me with my process toward oneness. Seeking by reading, self exploration, listening teachers, and meditation is helpful, but having a guided conversation could move me further along more quickly.

What is your experience in terms of spiritual practices, seeking and inquiry?
I was raised in fundamentalist Protestant churches and, as a child, accepted Jesus as my savior. I believed as a young child that Jesus literally was in my heart and loved me. I felt connected with Christ's love. Then at about age 11 when I was at a church camp with girls I had a break down in that I sobbed for a very long time with the realization that no one there was living the teachings of Jesus and the girls were not loving toward one another. The counselors were unable to console me. In high school I was eager to leave home for college and explore other religions. I became a Quaker and then later, still as a young adult while involved in a lot of political organizing work, I became a Marxist/Atheist.

Since the 90's I sought mystical spirituality to a minor degree. I had glimpses of being one with all. I have been peripherally involved with Buddhism for decades. I have been on many retreats and was in a Loving Kindness group for 7 years until I moved out of San Francisco. More recently I have been involved in attempting to really take in non duality by immersing myself in readings and keeping a disciplined approach to daily meditation. My husband and I work together to keep each other motivated.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how willing are you to question any currently held beliefs about 'self? 9
