The unfolding can be rocky, indeed. The thoughts can get louder and more disconcerting when the truth is seen. I'm glad your friend was able to support you.

Let’s continue to look at the idea of identification with 'doership,' the feeling like the 'self' is the chooser.

We’ll do a little exercise on this topic. It has to do with the sense of seeing.

Take a few relaxed breaths to let the dust settle for a while, and then:

Look on your right.
Then look on your left.
Finally, bring your head back to centre, close your eyes and look in front with eyes still closed.

Okay, so when you look on the right, the view on the right is seen (whatever that is).
When you look on the left, the view on the left is seen (whatever that is).
And then, when you look in front of you with eyes closed, the view in front is seen (ie black space).

So, when the view on the right is seen, do you have the ‘choice’ not to see? I’m not asking can you ‘choose’ to see something else like another view or black space if you close your eyes. The question is, can you turn seeing off? Can you NOT see what is seen?

Same thing with the view on the left, can you NOT see the view on the left?

Same thing with the view in front with closed eyes, can you NOT see the blank sky?
Can you turn off seeing?

Last question in this whole exercise -- what did the 'chooser' choose? Did a 'self' choose something?

Hope the weather is better in Austin than it is in Dallas. Wet and Cold.

Thank you for sending another experiment. Sat down, took a few breaths and let the dust settle. With eyes open - turned my head to the right, to the left and then to the center. Then closed my eyelids - stared at the back of the lids.

No, the eyes see. There is no "I am looking". The eyes can not be turned off. They see even when the eyes are closed.

What!!!

What the heck does that make "sleep"? do the eyes sleep? lol

Same thing with the view on the left, can you NOT see the view on the left?

There was no way of not seeing. The eyes saw. Same with the view of the center while the lids were closed. The eyes were still seeing. Seeing can not be turned off.

Last question in this whole exercise -- what did the 'chooser' choose? Did a 'self' choose something?

There is no chooser.. Nor did a self choose something.

What the heck does that make "sleep"? do the eyes sleep?

Are eyes needed to see a dream during sleep? That question and other deeper questions are in the realms of further investigation that you can do once you have gated. Further investigation is done in another forum.

Ashely, are you clear about choice/decision/control? If you can't choose what you are aware of, then what else is there to choose?
