let's look at this idea of "choice."
Palm Flipping Exercise
1. Hold a hand in front of you; palm turned down.
2. Now turn the palm up. And down...and up and so on.
Watch like a hawk.
Don't go to thoughts – examine your direct experience.
Do this as many times as you like, and each time inquire:
How is the movement controlled?
First there's a thought, then nothing, then there's an impulse, an energy "trigger" that powers the movement of the hand (as far as "I" can tell, or as far as is seen here). Is this right? I'm looking pretty damn close. But the thought...there is no thought before the thought telling the thought to think itself. There is nothing, no - one. There simply is this. There simply IS. and there is also that in between the thought and the "trigger" / energy / impulse. In other words, more nothing, no "I".
Does a thought control it?
A thought seems to be part of the process, but does it control it? I dunno. I'm gonna look again.
Now "I" cannot even turn the hand over. It just sits there. And "I" can't find the difference in what is happening when the hand moves (like, a few times, a bunch of times) and when it doesn't. There is something that initiates the sequence, the energy...
I will look again.
This is fkd. I can't figure this out.
Really.
I could use a hand. lololololololo!!!!!!!
Can a ‘controller’ of any description be located?
Not that can be found here, so far.
How is the decision made to turn the hand over?
No clue, really. Maybe this is the point? When "I" (or nobody) is busy looking for who or what it is that controls the hand moving or not, the hand does not move. It's like something that doesn't exist is waiting for something that doesn't exist to kick in.
And it doesn't.
Track any decision point when a thought MADE THE DECISION to turn the hand over and the hand turns over immediately.
There is something that turns the hand, and there is sometimes thought, but the two don't really seem to be connected.
It's rather confusing. The hand can be both turned and not turned with or without the appropriate {matching, congruent) thought, or contrary to it.
Who or what chose which hand - the left or right hand for the exercise?
Right. Best question EVER.
Nobody chose that. Fooled me.
Can you find a separate individual or anything that is choosing when to turn the palm up or down?
Nope.
So what's the deal? I mean, this stuff is pretty obvious. When I look closely according to any of these instructions, there is CLEARLY no "self" here. But not only don't I know all the instructions, or even which ones to use in a certain situation (which means I'm probably walking around life at least some percentage of the time asleep, or not in the recognition of reality -- except of course that this is projection -- the future and the past is what's being discussed here and it is already well known that those two things aren't things at all)....not sure how to finish this sentence. What does all this mean? Wall of insurmountable fear or no. Like, maybe that will arise again and maybe it won't. Who knows (when there's nobody here to know anything, anyway)?
What is practice to be this all the time like? How does training to be this more effectively take place? This is the school I want to be in, to learn in, to play in (ie, this is wanted!)
