Good morning,

:) Nope!

Introductory Body Exercise

Sit with eyes closed for about 15 minutes.
Paying attention only to the pure sensations, without relying on thoughts or mental images:

Can it be known how tall the body is?
Does the body have a weight or volume?
In the actual experience does the body have a shape or a form?

Is there a boundary between the body and the clothing?
Is there a boundary between the body and the chair?

Is there an inside or an outside?
If there is an inside - the inside of what exactly?
If there is an outside - the outside of what exactly?

What does the word/label ‘body’ ACTUALLY refer to?
What is the ACTUAL experience of the body?

Look very carefully, especially with the last question.

Take your time, don’t rush. You can look several times during the day while doing other things (like washing hands, showering, having a short break from work, walking, etc) before replying.

See what is found in Actual Experience only.

We do not care about the content of thought.

Much love,
~ Stacy

hello, Stacy, back again....
Can it be known how tall the body is?
Does the body have a weight or volume?
In the actual experience does the body have a shape or a form?
none of it is percieved.
Is there a boundary between the body and the clothing?
Is there a boundary between the body and the chair?
no boundary, just pressure or touch-sensation
Is there an inside or an outside?
If there is an inside - the inside of what exactly?
If there is an outside - the outside of what exactly?
cannot feel inside/outside
What does the word/label ‘body’ ACTUALLY refer to?
What is the ACTUAL experience of the body?

to
the sensing organism
interacting organism
orientation organism in space

hearing-tasting-touching-seeing-feeling: taking in sensations - (the "bodys experience" - body does not experience, but thats one way to understand the "actual experience of the body"
or
"my experience" of the body: fluid, no boundry.....no definition
I am swimming in the ocean - all moving is automatic - independent of "me swimming" and no boundary felt.....surprise...

Hi George!

Having fun? Good!

Be relaxed & have fun. You're doing great!
to
the sensing organism
interacting organism
orientation organism in space
You mean the content of thought that is labeled "organism," which cannot be found in Actual Direct Experience?

Same with 'space" and "orientation." A label, content of thought, right?

Check again for DE.

hearing-tasting-touching-seeing-feeling: taking in sensations -

(the "bodys experience" - body does not experience, but thats one way to understand the "actual experience of the body"
Right, the body does not experience. It can't even be found in DE, just like the "apple" earlier.
or
"my experience" of the body: fluid, no boundry.....no definition
Exactly, There is a pointer called, "Where Is I?" that explores exactly that in my friend's recordings in the Dropbox.
I am swimming in the ocean - all moving is automatic - independent of "me swimming" and no boundary felt.....surprise...
YES! How does it feel to see this?

Hi Stacy,

here we go again:
You mean the content of thought that is labeled "organism," which cannot be found in Actual Direct Experience?
no, I ment the physical body without "an occupant" (a "me")- the direct experience of it through seeing (?) F.e. I/body moves through a crowd without bumping into anything/anybody - automatic - cannot that be an experience? (I think I failed you here!)
I am swimming in the ocean - all moving is automatic - independent of "me swimming" and no boundary felt.....surprise...
YES! How does it feel to see this?
matter of fact - thats how it is.
luv g.

You're losing me with these rabbit trails into hypotheticals.

Please stick to Actual Experience. The 5 senses and the fact that thoughts arise & not the story it tells.

Where us this mythical "body without an occupant" in Actual Experience?

Simpler Body Exercise

Please find a quiet place and a quiet time. Sit or lay down and relax. Close your eyes and relax.

Can you attend to sensation exclusively?
Not minding thought babbling about this and that?
Not minding thought labelling sensation for a bit?

Thought may tell: "I am lying here" or "My body is lying here" or "A body is lying here". But could this be known from pure sensation?

Thought might suggest: "There is a soft pressure against the back". But could you know about "pressure" or "back" from pure sensation?

Once arrived there, while ONLY attending to sensation, please have a look at the following questions:

Can be known how tall the body is?

Does the body have a specific size, shape or weight?

How many toes are there?

Loving,
~ Stacy

Hi Stacy,
Where us this mythical "body without an occupant" in Actual Experience?
not a mystical thing, just body moving (safly through a crowd or swimming) without a "me" doing/directing it: I can see it/sense it....
Can you attend to sensation exclusively?
Not minding thought babbling about this and that?
Not minding thought labelling sensation for a bit?
sensations can be percieved but not "exclusively", all (sensations) come in together - choosing one (f.e. hearing) would be babbling..
Thought may tell: "I am lying here" or "My body is lying here" or "A body is lying here". But could this be known from pure sensation?
no, sensation is not telling a story only percieving, not translating (f.e. "pressure")
Can be known how tall the body is?
Does the body have a specific size, shape or weight?
How many toes are there?
see July 11th - no way to tell....

waiting for next time
love g.

Let's look at this one thing...
Where us this mythical "body without an occupant" in Actual Experience?
not a mystical thing, just body moving (safly through a crowd or swimming) without a "me" doing/directing it: I can see it/sense it....
First, MYTHICAL, made up, not "mystical."

There was no "apple."

Looking at "body" in the same way - for the made up story that it is - is there a "body?"

Can you find a "body" in AE? Look carefully.

hi Stacy,

Can you find a "body" in AE? Look carefully.
for "my own body": I cannot find a body through DE with sensing/feeling, only sense-impressions - but some object, some thing, when seen in a mirror. Is seeing a reflection in the mirror a DE? (without naming it)

Do I/we get anywhere in the last exchanges - you call it "rabbit trails into hypotheticals" - I try to get as close as I can to what you`re laying out for me, but feel like missing - but I do not feel being hung up in "hypotheticals". It feels like we need "a new route"..????what do you think?

Hi George,

Let's keep LOOKING.
but some object, some thing, when seen in a mirror. Is seeing a reflection in the mirror a DE? (without naming it)
You tell me - what is seen in DE in the mirror?

Go back to Sunday, June 20 to where you learned to begin to distinguish between Actual (or Direct) Experience and stories.

Direct Experience - Labeling Daily Activities

Here's an exercise that I would like you to try as many times throughout the day as you can. Label daily activities simply color/image, sound, smell, taste, sensation, thought.

So for example, when having breakfast, become aware of:

Seeing a cup, simply= image/color
Smelling coffee, simply = smell
Feeling the warmth of the coffee cup, simply = sensation
Tasting the coffee, simply = taste
Hearing the spoon stirring the coffee, simply = sound
Thought about drinking the coffee, simply = thought

Just break down daily activities into these categories (which are all Actual/Direct Experience) and report back with lists exactly like the one above.

Post several of your own observations in a list *exactly* like the one above, please.

What you posted was not a nice, neat list like the example, but it seemed you probably understood.

Now apply this to what is seen in the mirror.

There is no "new route," except to LOOK & follow the pointers. You don't get to control the instructions. If you could already SEE, you would be guiding. Right?

This is a good article to address this:

https://www.liberationunleashed.com/res ... ar-seeker/

So, what is SEEN in Direct Experience in the mirror?

You can do this!

~ Stacy

hi Stacy,
yes, I know Delmas points - totally undertood - just feeling a few days off track or off synchronicity with the tasks asked.....no interest of controlling instructions, but interest of understanding/following Stacy

but back again:

watching news:
seeing screen - simply images movment colour
hearing voices, low and high - simply sound
opinion about the speaker - just simpy a thought

typing:
feeling laptop on legs - simply = touch sensation
feeling fingers moving and touching pad - simply = touch sensation
seeing touch pad - simply = seeing
seeing screen - thought about brightness- = just thought

laying in deck chair:
feeling pressure on cushion - simply = feeling
in-outbreath moving chest - simply = seeing
hearing leaves in wind - just = hearing
resting arm on armrest - just = feeling pressure
wind around my ears - simply = hearing/listening

Image in the mirror:

just a "something" - just simply= seeing

Hi and bye
george

Did that answer your question?

Is there a "body," even if not named, in Direct Experience?

Good morning,

Please do answer the previous post. I want to add something.

First, you said there is a "something" seeing the image in the mirror. Does there have to be a "something" doing the seeing or could it possibly be that seeing is a happening, a verb with no noun doing anything? Look carefully.

Second, I want you to listen to the first chapter of this audio book or read the first chapter on a Kindle or wherever - the library if you have to.

Awareness Games by Brian Tom O'Connor on Audible.
There are dozens of pointers in that book, but for now, the first chapter is the main thing. He explains very well how we have to get around the mind, ignore thinking, in order to see no self. It is like a quote from one of the Zen teachers:

"Enlightenment is an accident. Meditation makes you accident prone."

Hi Stacy,
So, what is SEEN in Direct Experience in the mirror?
oh, I brought in the "object" - whats happening in DE is just seeing ....

Now I take time for your next request...
until then
