It seems to be exactly as you described it above. There is a SENSE that there is a self controlling all of this, but I can't actually find it when I look at what is.

I keep wondering if there is some sense of being that 'I' am. But when I am sleeping, I don't believe I actually feel this 'being'.

No, I cannot point to something in DE that definitely is 'me'.

Here are a few questions that I would like you to answer. Take as little or as much time as you need. Joseph ♥

1) Is there a separate entity 'self', 'me' 'I', at all, anywhere, in any way, shape or form? Was there
ever?

2) Explain in detail what the illusion of separate self is, when it starts and how it works from
your own experience. Describe it fully as you see it now.

3) How does it feel to see this? What is the difference from before you started this dialogue?
Please report from the past few days.

4) What was the last bit that pushed you over, made you look?

5) Describe decision, intention, free will, choice and control. What makes things happen? How
does it work? What are you responsible for? Give examples from experience.

6) Anything to add?

1) It's more that there is nothing I can directly point to. Thoughts, emotions, sensations and attention is just happening. 'I' am not in control of it. There is only awareness that these things are happening. It is not 100% clear to me though if 'I' am this awareness or not. What I mean to say is, if I am ANYTHING at all or if I am some sort of blank nothingness where experience comes through.

Awareness is not an object, just a pointer. Is it important that experiencing be objectified? Or is it possible to just be the seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, thinking? When are you ever not all of these sensations happening anyway? Can you control this?

Feeling is happening, thinking is happening, seeing is happening, hearing is happening, attention is happening. But there is no entity visible who is actually doing this, who is providing for it. There are just things happening, and there is awareness that things are happening.
I cannot find a self who actually IS thinking or IS feeling, or in control of experience.
It must mean that 'I' am nothing in particular, or just the watcher of all of it.

Can a watcher be found in DE?

Hmm.

Not a watcher I would say, rather awareness.

But then what is the silent watcher that for example Eckhart Tolle talks about? Also nothing in particular?

There is definitely something. Thinkng, feeling, seeing, knowing... But look at this from DE, drop identifying with thought narrative, what's left?

Thoughts keep looking for something. SOMETHING that is a me, but it can't get a grip. There is nothing I can point to as definitely 'me', except maybe pure consciousness. But there is nothing personal about it.

Ignoring the content "Thoughts keep looking for something", what is left?

There are thoughts, sensations, feelings, looking, hearing, focusing etc and awareness that it is happening. Nothing more

Could awareness be described here as just a knowing, awarding of all?
