Did you see this?
The point is still that the fact of thoughts arising is "real " but the content, such as names, labels & descriptions are not.
Did you see The Matrix?

We have to shake you out-of thinking & analysis or you will not see.

OK, but why? but seem like stuff my brain is doing.

yes, I saw it, but a long time ago, and I loved it!. I'll watch again.
and yes, the thinking and analysis is my go to response to everything, and I'm not even a scientist :) It always makes me happy to find a puzzle piece that fits with all the other stuff. and I'm clearly a little handicapped when it comes to the direct experience. I tried to shake myself a little with a whole shopping list of psychedelics, pretty much without effect. on the other hand a few experiences that I can only call mystical appeared on their own, so maybe I'm not hopeless...

I meant to write : BOTH (thoughts arising and labeling thoughts) seem like stuff my brain is doing

Maybe we know a little.
We did not create the things our senses perceive. They remain even when we don't think about them.
The stories that our thoughts tell, however, are not real. We make them up.
Please keep practicing buttchair and posting here.

i'm confused: are you saying that external objects have physical reality?

I don't think this part of the discussion is really helping you. It is just a bunch of analysis.
So, here is a pointer that may force you to look, not think:
ButtChair
Please LOOK for any place where your butt ends & the chair begins.
Is there any clear dividing line between them? Or only the Sensation with no clear division?
It is simple direct & nonverbal. Just LOOK.
Then write what is true.
I did only this and nothing else for 3 months and then saw. It crept up on me while I was sitting at a stoplight. Seeing often happens when we are simply relaxed and looking. I should say, it ONLY happens when we are relaxed and LOOKING. All of this thinking is useless. Truly.

Good! Please meditate on that whenever you think of it.
Be relaxed.
You can also continue with the recorded pointers.

about the matrix: I don't know what to make of that spoon boy scene, but another part of it comes to mind: Morpheus teaches like Yoda: What IS real? how do you define real? If you are talking about what you can feel, what you can smell , taste and see then real is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.
I'm guessing you will dismiss this as more garbage thoughts, but you were the one bringing up that rabbit hole...

t's just thoughts.
LOOK
I'm supposed to be honest, right? "just thoughts" sounds incredibly dismissive to me. and "LOOK" is, well, not that helpful. I think it's possible that this frustration is part of the process, but I'm not sure at all. It feels mechanical and like a dead end that I have contemplated for years. I'm looking. So what?

Yes. We are completely dismissing all content of thought.
We have guided hundreds of people with exactly that instruction. Myself, nearly 200 over 8 years.
Some other instructors below.

that I have contemplated for years.
Maybe try this now. We have a proven track record.
Thank you

Okay, you can:
1. Ghost this thread & leave without a word.
2. Post that you don't wish to continue
3. Change guides (we will all instruct you to LOOK)
4. Pick up where you left & continue with me.
Up to you.
Thanks,
