Good day/night,This is how to look at thoughts:-
Looking how they come and go, and
Observing the short gap between them.
Noticing how the current thought is passing.
And waiting for the next thought to come.
Please do the following exercise during a whole DAY :
Throughout your waking day, try to observe the gap between thoughts as often as possible. It can be done by noticing that ‘thinking’ is happening right now, then stop and just simply wait for the next thought to come. In the ‘waiting’ there is a gap between two thoughts.
YesI want to know about what is going on : have you noticed a gap between thoughts?
YesAre you aware of thoughts?
yesAre you aware when there is no thought?
yesAre you aware of what is around you in the room?
yesAre you aware when eyes are closed?
noIs "being aware" needs a you, an "I"?
Even though I believe the answer is no, there is NOT a separate self!! There's expectation that "I" should see with eyes that I am also the bed, the floor, the tree etc....Since I have heard of other accounts of people knowing/seeing that they were everything and no thing. I feel hung up hereCan you say with a big fat YES that there is no separate self in any shape or form?
I don't want you to believe in no separate self, I invite you to LOOK AT this separate self and describe it for me.Even though I believe the answer is no, there is NOT a separate self!!
It is a big expectation. You have read books or watched videos of others. Forget all about others. You have to SEE the truth for yourself first hand. Don't lean on what others or warissem say. You need to SEE IT for yourself. That is what I am pointing to. You are aware and you know that you are aware. The "you" is used as an ease to communicate but does "being aware" need an "I", a "you" in the experience right here now? LOOK AT the experience and SEE.There's expectation that "I" should see with eyes that I am also the bed, the floor, the tree etc....Since I have heard of other accounts of people knowing/seeing that they were everything and no thing. I feel hung up here
It seems it's when awareness /I get tangled with thoughts and believe the thought I/me to be what I am.I don't want you to believe in no separate self, I invite you to LOOK AT this separate self and describe it for me.
NOYou are aware and you know that you are aware. The "you" is used as an ease to communicate but does "being aware" need an "I", a "you" in the experience right here now?
YesThere is a field of experience : seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and sensations. There are thoughts jumping in and out and they are in the experience. Do you agree with this?
YesThere is awareness of the whole experience right here right now : is it the case?
NoNow, is there any boundary between awareness and the whole experience?
It is a thought and it seems I either watch the thought pass by or I identify with that and become a MEs there a separate entity living the experience or this separate entity is just a thought jumping in?
You mean that you are aware of thoughts, good.It is a thought and it seems I either watch the thought pass by
I am curious about what you said : how an "I" becomes a ME? what is this "I" ? What is this ME? LOOK AT them directly now and SEE : is it an entity with a shape, a sound, a smell, a taste, a sensation?or I identify with that and become a ME[
is a thought?"I identify with that and become a ME"
The I seems to be the questioner and the one typing. I can't find a meI am curious about what you said : how an "I" becomes a ME? what is this "I" ? What is this ME? LOOK AT them directly now and SEE : is it an entity with a shape, a sound, a smell, a taste, a sensation?
yesHave you practiced the exercise about thoughts in the previous post?
yesIf it is so, have you seen that thoughts do not belong to you?
yesHave you seen that you are not the producer of thoughts? the thinker?
I can't find a me/youhave you seen that there is no you, no separate entity to which thoughts are addressed?
yes, however it appears that "I" whomever is typing this, believe thoughts sometimes and forget until I go to direct experience.Have you seen that thoughts are insentient, with no agenda?
Have you seen that
They are all just happening. Attention has habitually been drawn to thought though... so "I" seem to put attention in seeing, touching and hearing more often now, but sometimes fall back into thoughtDo you make a difference between thoughts and what is here now as seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching or feeling sensations?
It appears to be direct experience then "I' seem to get caught in thoughtPlay with this during a whole day for whatever is showing up : is it direct experience or is it a thought?
, is a thought?"I identify with that and become a ME"
yesHave you seen that this sentence,
"I identify with that and become a ME"
, is a thought?
experience/experiencingYour answers to my previous post are given through thinking. I want you to LOOK AT DIRECT EXPERIENCE and SEE what is going on right here right now. Would you report about what is going on without using all the words you know? LOOK and let me know about your insights.
I don't know an urge? How is the movement controlled?
I Don't know, maybe subtle?Does a thought control it?
NoCan a ‘controller’ of any description be located?
I don't know how it's made, maybe there was a hint of a subtle visual thought? How is the decision made to turn the hand over? Track any decision point when a thought MADE THE DECISION to turn the hand over and the hand turns over immediately.
I don't know it seems automaticWho or what chose which hand - the left or right hand for the exercise?
NoCan you find a separate individual or anything that is choosing when to turn the palm up or down?
