Hey Allen,
Don’t forget to answer each question. By answering each question asked, I can ensure that you are clear, so as to leave nothing in doubt. :)
WHEN does the ‘memory’ appear?
What is the exact difference between a ‘general’ thought and a ‘memory’ thought?
can't find a difference at all been looking off and on.they appear in AE the same out off nowhere. Always thought there was a summoner off memory and thar is just another thought now that i'm looking. What a trip huh?
Haha….yes, what a trip!
So, when does the ‘memory’ actually appear?
How is it known EXACTLY that a ‘memory’ thought refers to something that has happened?
For example, the thought ‘pain’ points to sensation ‘ouchouch’ (AE), but thoughts about stubbing the big toe against the chair is just story/fiction (aka thought story).
Sound labelled "tweet" points to AE of sound, but thought story says that a blue bird down the street made that sound.
Can you see this?
yes kay. Thought is AE.content-story is made up a narrative about the actual happenig of AE.keep getting confused about this more often than not still want to see story as part of whats happening when looking harder i see it is not AE
Not seeing it straight away is normal. That is why I ask you to LOOK, so that LOOKING not only then becomes automatic, but that you begin to distinguish between AE of thought and content of thought. You are doing great!
You have already seen that thought come and go and that there is no location or container from whence they come from or go to!
Here is a thought exercise to take a further look at thought. Sit for about 30 minutes and notice the arising thoughts. Just let them appear as they appear and notice what the thought actually is - words, mental images, bits of music - whatever appears.
Try your best to COMPLETELY ignore what they are saying, and rather just notice how they appear, without you doing anything at all.
- Did you do anything to make a particular thought or thoughts appear?
- Could you have done anything to make a different thought appear at that exact moment instead?
- Can you predict your next thought?
- Can you push away any thought?
- Can you select from a range of thoughts to have only pleasant thoughts?
- Can you stop thinking a thought in the middle?
- Can you choose not to have painful, negative or fearful thoughts?
- Can you pick and choose any kind of thought?
- Is it possible to control any thoughts?
- Is it possible to prevent a thought from appearing? Including the thought 'I'?
- It seems that thought has some logical ordered appearance, but look carefully and just notice if there is an organised sequence? Or is that just another thought that says ‘these thoughts are in sequence’ or “they take content from previous thought”, or that ‘one thought follows another thought’?
Please look carefully when doing this exercise, and do the exercise a couple of time if necessary. Answer all questions highlighted in blue text.
Much love,
Kay
