Gidday Dan, vince here.
Who constructed the concept of aliens ? of unicorns ?
What does it matter the origin of a concept ? If you want to theorise that a self did the construction, how will you ever know ?
Try this; everything outside of experiencing is a story (from the perspective of the mind/body organism labeled Dan)
That makes NOW the Totality of Reality.

Hi Vince! Thanks for jumping in. It is appreciated!

Not trying to sound flip, but the "origin of a concept" implies a past, and that doesn't exist. I totally see that everything outside of sensory perception is a story. (Even things in between sensory perception is a story that implies continuity of perception.) Body is part of the experience, but it is not self. Mind is a construct and is also not self. There is nothing to point to that could be called self.

Now that this sinks in a bit, it allows for complete focus on the present. Mind noise still happens, but it seems insignificant.

So this construct of mind creates the label "I" to weigh experience against. This label "I" is an illusion. The question comes up, "Who is it that is tricked by this illusion of a self?" It seems that the entity which is tricked by this illusion of self is the mind that created it. The mind creates a lie and then wholeheartedly believes it. Very strange.

It is strange, but true. It's one trick at a time, though, because it's one thought at a time. So, every moment is also a chance for seeing through it. In that way, liberation is ongoing.

Pretty cool.
