Another guide asks:

Please pass forward/ ask regarding "That's a good one. responsible feels grabby still. conventionally I am responsible for my son and as I write this it's clear that I can't ... usefully secure his health and safety. but I do have to provide for his needs to the best of my ability. Also my wife, and my family, and there's no reason to stop there. fortunately I don't need to know how to do that ahead of time ??"

Yes, caring and conventional responsivilty continues. Conventionally speaking you take responsibilty for your son and etc just like you grab the thing falling of the table spontaneously, right? If that disapeared it would probably be a sign of the clarity of insight deteriorating into an extreme nihilistic belief. But is there actually a need for or posibility of a separate you producing the responsible behavior? Please look into this in normal life situations of "being responsible" and let us know what is seen.

yes that's right, it's not a thing I'm doing, it's a thing that happens in response to circumstances. Yesterday I cleaned out the pantry of all the expired stuff that'd been hiding in there, and it wasn't a decision I made, it was just what happened given the environment.

There was a story about it when I told my wife later but the story didn't cause the cleaning.

I can see how someone might think that 'duty' or 'responsibility' are "why" they're performing some action, but "I did this because reasons" is a sentence where all the words are empty even though it's conventionally coherent :)

If my son wakes up scared in the night, I'm not making a decision to wake up and respond to him, I'm just awake saying 'hey buddy just a second'. I'm not deciding if I should get out of bed or not, I just am out of bed, going to hug him.
