Look at the word, is that YOU?
No, its just a word.
Speak the word “ME” silently; be aware of any sensations or responses to this word. Are any of these reactions in your body or mind by themselves YOU?
No, I couldn’t find anything there. It was a thought and then it dissolved.
Now say the word “ME” aloud. Is that sound YOU?
No, it’s just sound.
Is the combination of any of these, the word, the sound, the thought YOU?
No.
Is the thought "ME" you? No, there is no substance to it.

Hi
Hi Becca,
That's great, well done!
The usual belief that 'I am this body' is usually tied in with the belief that the body as a separate item is responsible or 'DOING' the senses - 'I see', 'I hear', 'I feel' etc
We will begin with 'seeing' - Just that one sense on its own.
Close your eyes.
With eyes closed, you will now experience 'blackness'. There may be other things you can find going on, sure. If you are looking at a bright light, there may be a red glow. There may be sparkly bits or cloudy flecks appearing and disappearing - It really doesn't matter about the specifics.
Just to make things simple, whatever you can see with eyes closed, I'm going to refer to it as 'black' or 'blackness' just for simplicity.
1) With eyes closed, can you confirm that what is experienced is 'blackness' as I mentioned?
2) Is there anything else in 'seeing' other than 'blackness'?
3) Can what is witnessing the blackness be found?
4) Can a pair of eyes, an 'I' / 'me', a person be found that is witnessing the blackness? Or is there just 'blackness' to be found?
What do you find?
Can an INHERENT SEE-ER be found? Would anything that is suggested as the see-er, be anything other than a concept/idea/thought?
xx

1) With eyes closed, can you confirm that what is experienced is 'blackness' as I mentioned? Yes correct.
2) Is there anything else in 'seeing' other than 'blackness'? No just blackness.
3) Can what is witnessing the blackness be found? No, nothing can be found.
4) Can a pair of eyes, an 'I' / 'me', a person be found that is witnessing the blackness? Or is there just 'blackness' to be found? No eyes, I or me can be found. There is just witnessing.
What do you find? Calmness. Present moment awareness.
Can an INHERENT SEE-ER be found? No, nothing can be found. There is just witnessing. There is just sensations, thoughts, seeing, smelling and hearing arising.
Would anything that is suggested as the see-er, be anything other than a concept/idea/thought? Yes. But doesn’t this mean that the witnessing is also an idea/thought?

Morning Becca,

you have hit the nail on the head here: LOOK - can a Witness actually be found?doesn’t this mean that the witnessing is also an idea/thought?
xx
Re: Clarity
No, nothing can be found.
There is something that sees, hears, witnesses but it can’t be named, described or found so really there is nothing. x

Hi Becca

I would say that, yes, there is seeing, hearing, etc happening, but that it's not YOU. It's not personal Does that makes sense to you? There is something that sees, hears, witnesses but it can’t be named, described or found so really there is nothing.

Re: Clarity
Yes that’s makes complete sense. None of it is me. There is no ‘me’. Nothing can ever been found. Even the witness.
It is clear. Everything that arises is not me, there is ‘no self’ being aware. It’s just happening. Even the experience of awareness is not me.

Re: Clarity
Excellent! How is it to realise that?

Re: Clarity
It’s a revelation. I was getting lost in thinking I was the witnessing or thinking I was the space before the witness but now I realise this is all thought too!! Any thoughts about what awareness is or feels like is a construct. Awareness can never be known to a separate self. So self inquiry is about realising what we are not rather than what we are. Just so I am clear. Would you agree that we can never know awareness? I.e. because there is no one to know. Awareness just is.

Re: Clarity
How are you doing?
Re: Clarity
Good. Everything is pretty much the same. I see the illusion of thought. Selfing thoughts still arise as they always did. However, I’m not getting caught up in them. It feels like there will be times when I do when I’m tired or hormonal. I still have the running commentary of thoughts throughout the day. When I catch them, I question them by asking ‘who is......?’ and I know this is thought questioning thought so is all an illusion too. But it seems to help. Then I come back to direct experience and that’s useful too. x
