Hi Stacy
Yes I can see and feel how my second attempt was clearer in showing what's there in experience before the labelling and thinking. Thank you for helping me to see that.
1.
I am typing
I am sitting on a bench
I am looking outside the window
I am breathing
I am hearing my family talking
I am moving my tongue around my teeth
I am sniffing
I am looking at my mug
I am scratching my head
I am swallowing my tea
I am rubbing my lips together
I am feeling tension in my tummy
I am looking at the patterns on my rug
I am clasping my hands together
I am hearing the clock ticking
I am hearing my son singing
I am hearing my neighbours talking in the garden
I am hearing my tummy making noises
I am rubbing my fingers together
I am looking at my to do list
I am watching the clothes moving on the clothes line
I am rubbing my chin
I am feeling sleepy
I am moving my bottom around on the bench
2.
Hearing my son
Hearing my tummy
Scratching my eyebrow
Sighing
Hearing the clock
Watching husband walk through the room
Hearing sons arguing
Hearing birds singing
Looking at the bookshelf
Crossing legs
Breathing
Biting thumb
Feeling tingling in toes
Feeling pain in back
Feeling toes scrunching up in shoes
Seeing cat run across the garden
Seeing cat walk through the room
Hearing son drop something
Hearing swishing noise of him walking upstairs
Biting lip
Licking lips
Scratching at sore on thumb
Squeezing lips with fingers
Staring at painting on wall
Scratching ear
Holding chin in hands
Hearing washing machine turning on
Hearing son cough
Smelling fingers
Staring at light on wall
Looking at table cloth pattern
Moving bottom on bench
Hearing tummy groan
1. Is one truer than the other, and If so, which one?
The second one seems truer. There's less detail/labelling, so the description seems more accurate and immediate, less personal and fluffy. More sensory and 'close'.
2. What is here without labels?
Sensation. Experience of reality as physicality. A sense of life happening to me/for me.
3. Do labels affect the experience or just describe it?
The labels are just describing what's happening. Adding story and therefore thought and emotion to the 'event' being described.
4. Did you notice any differences in the body?
The second experiment was experienced with less bodily tension, and less thinking. The first experiment I felt more tummy butterflies and constriction of the throat and tummy as a rising panic over the experiment and thoughts of 'I'm never going to get this'. During the second experiment there was a sensation of space opening in the body, a relaxation, but not fully. There were still flutterings but less intense than the first experiment.
I will try the anxiety exercise and let you know what comes up.
With love,
Gemma
