Bad? Is it to get rid of ?

In many cases yes it's bad to be deep in your thoughts esp. if the negative ones. Even if they are neutral, still, they take me out of the present moment, so often I rather not have em.

Difference in auto and not is substantial :

If auto I feel hijacked

When I'm aware of thought I'm slowing down thinking process even full stop however short but blissful. That's non auto.

Is it attention? Yes, or my awareness that's focused or being conscious of mental activity.
Either way you call it, helps dissipate thoughts just like morning sun to the fog.

Do I intentionally bring thoughts?
Only in the situation when I force myself to concentrate in order to figure things out.
Other than that they are idle mental activity that's almost always havevto do with past events. I noticed that if things get stirred up emotionally, the body gets into a higher energetic level which gets your brain jacked up with electric activity resulting in recurrent thought pattern.

Suppress befor it arises impossible.

No way of predicting my next thought.

They never come one at a time. They travel in clusters or trains that are snowballing. End up thinking about the content you've thought up before and then distracting from thinking train a moment before only to go back to same thought again with diff. spin.
What a mess.

Smells good thinking food going to eat.

Talk tomorrow.

Mornin!
In many cases yes it's bad to be deep in your thoughts esp. if the negative ones. Even if they are neutral, still, they take me out of the present moment, so often I rather not have em.
Where do you go if you are not in the present moment? Do you mean what is happening is not what 'you' want to have happen?
If auto I feel hijacked
Is this a thought? E.g. 'This shouldn't be happening'? Is this a thought commenting on another thought? :)
When I'm aware of thought I'm slowing down thinking process even full stop however short but blissful. That's non auto.
And is this what you think SHOULD be happening? E.g. You want this not the other? Is this also a thought?
How do you slow thought? Don't tell me what happens, rather how you do it, especially considering you can't predict your next thought.
Only in the situation when I force myself to concentrate in order to figure things out.
Force? Again how do you do that? If you control it, then there would be no time when it wasn't controlled would there? Can you retain concentration?
They never come one at a time. They travel in clusters or trains that are snowballing. End up thinking about the content you've thought up before and then distracting from thinking train a moment before only to go back to same thought again with diff. spin.
What says thoughts shouldn't be happening? Another thought?
What says this isn't it, or this isn't right? Another thought? Did you bring either of them?

Hi Sarah

I guess I'm not going anywhere per se.
Present mom. is always there and so am I. Although if I'm not attending to it that means I don't know if I am. It's being covered up with thoughts. Layer on top of layer like a heavy Shmear ergo my name.
It's ok to focus on activity at hand and get absorbed by it. There is poetry in it. It happens but rare.
Most of waking hours are spent in thoughts. Based on their content I feel detached from here and now.

Is it a thought ? Of course but that's why I'd rather drop all thought and just be.

Slow thoughts down. Is blissful. And yes I agree it's one of my shoulds from time to time.
How it's done? Very easy Stopping them is not very realistic but slowin might be : if one goes to sense perceptions without deeply meditating just in midst of activity listen to subtle sounds( creek or bird. Distant voices). With your eyes defocus from object and absorb w peripheral vision field. There many other little things.
It gets u in alpha brain and with that parasympathetic n. syst is dominant and results in slowing brain activity without obfuscating it.

Forcing ones mental activity narrowly is not easy but trainable trait besides there is always Ritalin. But even then, I'm with you Sara, it will drift off. There's only some degree of control or it seems to be. The reality is we are at mercy of what come and when it comes to our brains.
No control. I'm so with u on that.

As far as should or should not ..,
Since we've established that controlling them is futile what's there to do but accept and live with the fact without resistance.
So, shud/shudnt is another thought. Let it be. Thank you Sarah.

I still think that however helplessly we give up all control of thinking process, there's awareness or the knowingness of thoughts. If we expand that faculty while in a middle of thinking and dreaming, we introduce non verbal presence to the it. When that happens there's less of a blind thinkin reaction to the thought which reflects nice in social life.
But that's just another thought.

Shmear.

Hi Shmear
I guess I'm not going anywhere per se. Present mom. is always there and so am I.
Have a look at this. Are you always there. Look through your day. Do 'you' come and go?
Do you see the expectation here that thought is expected to go, become less or stop altogether?
Are thoughts the enemy? What says they are wrong? Thought?
Although if I'm not attending to it that means I don't know if I am.
So if not thinking then 'you' disappear?
Of course but that's why I'd rather drop all thought and just be.
Is this what is wanted? By what? Why are you not being now? What says you aren't? Is it all thought? Do you see the 'grass is greener' thought that if only that can be achieved then everything will be alright?
What makes it not alright now?
Slow thoughts down. Is blissful.
What is permanent in your direct experience? Anything? Or is every state in flux? If flux then what wants blissful permanence?
How it's done? Very easy Stopping them is not very realistic but slowin might be : if one goes to sense perceptions without deeply meditating just in midst of activity listen to subtle sounds( creek or bird. Distant voices). With your eyes defocus from object and absorb w peripheral vision field.
This doesn't tell me how you do it? How do 'you' slow thought down? How do you de-focus?
What wants to control thought? Another thought?
There's only some degree of control or it seems to be. The reality is we are at mercy of what come and when it comes to our brains. No control.
Do you see no control? Where is there any confusion with that?
So what wants control then?
Since we've established that controlling them is futile what's there to do but accept and live with the fact without resistance.
And do you control that? If so accept now! Did it work?
I still think that however helplessly we give up all control of thinking process, there's awareness or the knowingness of thoughts.
What happens to thought content when thought is simply watched and noticed? Anything?

I really like your last question.
I've always wondered about it.
Every time I observe my thighs, that very moment of noticing makes disappear.
So to answer your question re what happens to the content of it by shedding the light of attention on it.
It goes blank. Empty. Moment of no thought.
Therefore, since one cannot think 2 thoughts at the same time, by the same token one cannot be thinking and be aware of it simultaneously.
Therefore, the thought and the awareness originate in the same part of the thinking cortex.
This make the notion of awareness along with the thought not real or not existing.

As far as the remaining questions, Sarah ,
I get it and it's ever more clear:
Control over thoughts are not real, only imagined,
And the not thing that wants to control it is another thought.

What's permanent in my direct exp.
Just that - direct experience, that's all there is. Nothing is permanent. I used to think that consciousness was, but now feel nothing.

Disappear never happens unless I'm asleep. Stopping thinking is nothing. Just nice.

Hey
I'm going to do this in two posts, coz I can only copy one thing at a time! Lol

Excellent noticing.

Is this directly experienced? Or thought?

Second post!
What power does a thought have? What can a thought do? What does a thought know outside of thought?

What you actually experience awareness originating in the thinking cortex?

And what Cana thought do? Anything? What power does a thought have?

Thought has as much power as we give it to.
It knows nothing out side of another thought and never exists outside of story.

Thought has as much power as we give it to.
As what gives it? Explore this. What is it made up of?
And do you actually experience awareness originating in a thinking cortex?

I get it. It's all made out of thinking stuff. Thoughts give power to other thoughts as we thinking about them and reinforcing the content. Circle.

Is it my experience of origins of awareness.

No way. Can't be perceived or experienced otherwise. Just like with the thoughts, awareness shows up into the direct exp of the moment. No way of knowing where and how they both come and go.

Morning
So are you clear with thought now?
Are you the doer? Can you control what happens? What about with making decisions? Is there anywhere where control is felt?
