Thanks Xain, that question has really stirred something. A storm of thoughts, then an upwelling of emotion. It's clear that there wasn't a me that chose to be born, chooses to cry, to feel hungry, to die. I don't know how life happens.Your answer is a little woolly. Is there not a definite answer here?
Is there an 'I' who choose to think in a specific way?

If you are OK to delve into this we can. It might help solidify things. Thanks Xain, that question has really stirred something. A storm of thoughts, then an upwelling of emotion. It's clear that there wasn't a me that chose to be born, chooses to cry, to feel hungry, to die. I don't know how life happens.
What was born?
As you say, there wasn't an 'I' that chose birth. But then, what was created at birth?
Was there a birth of anything?
What control have you over life right now?
What control have you ever had?

Re: Looking to have dialogue with a guide
After thoughts died down I realised that that at birth there is a coming together of conditions crystallising in a unique pattern, a streaming of events, unfolding interacting, having an effect, though there is no thing at the centre of this, no owner of the qualities that arise, awareness arises but awareness does not belong to someone. This means that there is no one who is born, or dies yet there is living and dying. There is not even something called life happening, just living, no death but dying. What was born? As you say, there wasn't an 'I' that chose birth. But then, what was created at birth? Was there a birth of anything?
An image came to mind. I remembered letting a snowflake land on my open palm; a moment white then melted. Yet nothing was lost; water turning to water.
Life flows more smoothly, seems simpler when awareness is present, a response, cooperation with what is happening. When there is the idea of an I controller, or of me being aware it only gets in the way. There is no one and no thing to controlWhat control have you over life right now?
What control have you ever had?

Thank you, Hesed.
I will now pass our conversation over to other guides who may have further input.

Re: Looking to have dialogue with a guide
Ok, thanks Xain. Where I have written awareness could be read as awareness/love.
Re: Looking to have dialogue with a guide
Surely the idea of a controller is just a thought appearing? When there is the idea of an 'I' controller, or of 'me' being aware it only gets in the way.
I have to ask, 'Gets in the way of what'?

If the thought is believed it gets in the way of seeing and responding.Surely the idea of a controller is just a thought appearing?

Re: Looking to have dialogue with a guide
No, what I think of as me is more like a narrator of events . . .
Could you tell me what you mean here by 'narrator of events', 'narrator of experience'?There is no seperate entity called self found apart from experiencing, except as a thought, or an interpretation of experience, a sort of narrator of experience . . .
An entity? A stream of thoughts?

Re: Looking to have dialogue with a guide
The natural impulse to share experience, requires using words and concepts to communicate, to tell a story. The narrator of experience is like the I narrator in a fiction, that presents the story usually as his story, relating his experiences. This is useful for communication as long as it is realised that this narrator is fictional and not real, that the story is a story. To talk of my experiences is a linguistic convention, nothing more.Could you tell me what you mean here by 'narrator of events', 'narrator of experience'?
Re: Looking to have dialogue with a guide
Isn't the narrator just a story as well?

Hi Xain,
It feels like this process is somehow contuing by itself at the moment.
I know I haven't been given anything but I feel much richer than before we had this conversation.
Will get back about facebook. Any advice you might have would be appreciated.
Best wishes H
