Work in progress...

Postby iamdewfly » Mon Apr 01, 2024 10:05 pm

LU is focused guiding for seeing there is no real, inherent 'self' - what do you understand by this? I have had direct experiences of no-self, most associated with psychedelic use, but some with meditation. I understand that there is no “self” that can be pointed to through inquiry and experience. The self is an ego/thought creation. I do not live from this perspective in my daily life, and I would like to remain in that awareness. I have had some

What are you looking for at LU? I feel like I am so close to making a huge shift, but I struggle with doubt and control. I have trauma in my history, and perhaps that contributes to my roadblocks to making this larger shift. I am looking for guidance, and someone who can point in a way that is tailored to my roadblocks. I listened to an interview with Todd Lent, and his focus on doubt made me realize how limited I am by the second fetter.

What do you expect from a guided conversation? I expect to engage in self-inquiry on a different level, which is not generic but more tailored to my specific blocks. I am realizing that we are in a time where religion, spirituality, and psychology are merging, and I am interested in applying what I learn from guided conversations in my life and work.

What is your experience in terms of spiritual practices, seeking and inquiry? I have done meditation and self-inquiry for decades in various forms. Only within the last year did the idea that awakening was available to me present itself through Angelo DeLullo. I have followed many teachers and practices and realized that they all point to the same thing. Many teachers instruct you to follow their practices explicitly, and it took me a while to realize that you don’t. It’s all about what works for you to get to and through the gate, so you can cherry-pick what resonates.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how willing are you to question any currently held beliefs about 'self? 11

Hello Iamdewfly,

Welcome to Liberation Unleashed. I’ve read through your post a couple of times and would like to offer to guide.

Several things you say struck a chord:
I have had direct experiences of no-self, most associated with psychedelic use, but some with meditation.
Yes that rings true. This is where it started for me too. It is possible to imagine that we must aim to have some sort of similar and rather dramatic experience in our everyday life, but is it?

Seeing for sure that there is no self is definitely worth pursuing but it’s a good idea to be aware that it is not possible to predict how no self will be experienced. And particularly, it may sometimes seem incredibly ordinary and not necessarily dramatic or special.
I do not live from this perspective in my daily life, and I would like to remain in that awareness.
We can aim for you to see beyond shadow of a doubt that there is no self.
I struggle with doubt and control. I have trauma in my history, and perhaps that contributes to my roadblocks to making this larger shift.
It could. If you are willing, we could look at how that may be happening?

Please let me know if you would like to get going, investigating “self “ and we can start?

Warm regards

Jon

Hi Diane,

That is strange. I replied last night but now it isn’t here,

No I didn’t receive an email from you but an admin did contact me saying that you had mailed her.
