You didnt understand what I asked you to do.

For example you said eating. This is comprised of colors, sounds, sensations, tastes, thoughts, smells, feelings. I wanted you to break down a activity like this. See my previous post.
  • cashew nuts -
    smell - none
    sound - crunching,
    touch - creamy, silky, velvety,
feelings - pleasant while chewing, crunching,
unpleasant sadness - as an end to the experience
thoughts - want more - and will stop here
  • Morning drink
    Hot water
    smell - none
    sound - slurping
    touch - wet, warm
    feelings pleasant
    thoughts - none

Hello Buminjah

You're getting the idea, but still not there.
Maybe I didn't explain to you sufficiently. We take a daily activity (a experience) and break it into colour/image, sound, smell, taste, sensation, thought.

So for example,

Activity: Having breakfast.

Seeing the cup, simply= image/colour
Smelling coffee, simply = smell
Feeling the warmth of the coffee cup, simply = sensation
Tasting the coffee, simply = taste
Hearing the spoon stirring the coffee, simply = sound
Thought about drinking the coffee, simply = thought

Just break down daily activities into these categories (which are all actual/direct
experience) and report back how you go.

Thank you

S

cleaning my teeth
brush in hand
Seeing the brush, blue, handle , white brush
seeing the toothpaste - tube,
Smelling toothpaste, minty
Feeling the brush in my hand = hard, rough
feeling the toothpaste in my hand - squidgy, soft, pliable
Tasting the toothpaste, =minty
Brushing the teeth= sound indescribable, a scrubbing sound
Thought about cleaning teeth, - while cleaning i had no thought - just brush in hand and scrubbing teeth

Seeing the glass jar, - transparent and litre size jar
Smelling hot water, = no smell
Feeling the warmth of the hot water , simply = pleasant, warm, soothing
Tasting the hot water, = taste is neutral no taste
Thought about drinking the hot water, - thought - enjoyable - soothing

Just break down daily activities into these categories (which are all actual/direct
experience) and report back how you go.

No, its a color/image.
Smelling toothpaste, minty What does this point to? A color/image, a taste, a smell, a sensation, a sound or a thought? a taste and that is a thought
No, its a smell. You said yourself at the beginning, "smelling toothpaste".
Feeling the brush in my hand = hard, rough What does this point to? A color/image, a taste, a smell, a sensation, a sound or a thought? a sensation and that is a thought
Yes, a sensation, why do you say its also a tought?
feeling the toothpaste in my hand - squidgy, soft, pliable What does this point to? A color/image, a taste, a smell, a sensation, a sound or a thought? a thought
No, its a sensation.

---

Let us change this process a bit, do the following exercise.

Take a cup and put it in front of you. Now just look at it.
Thoughts want to be busy so they will analyze and label characteristics of it.
Keep doing this for a while, but eventually they will get bored and there will appear gaps between them.
They will be short in the beginning, but when a gap appears, notice what you are seeing no longer looking, but seeing) The moment you notice what you are seeing, mind will return and attempt to label again. Just ignore and wait for the next gap.
This time notice that thoughts would be entirely inadequate to describe what you are seeing accurately.
The shape, the color, the texture, etc is too subtle for words to do them justice.

Can you see this?

Thank you
S

Will do this next exercise.. for sure - and

A question - how does on know it is taste - surely a thought is saying this is taste?
how does one know it is sensation - surely a thought is saying this is sensation?
whoever told me taste - yes i see in the taste the taste , in the seen the seen , in the heard the heard..

A question - how does on know it is taste - surely a thought is saying this is taste?
What does this point to? Is your response a taste, a smell, a sensation, a color, a sound, a thought?
how does one know it is sensation - surely a thought is saying this is sensation?
What does this point to? Is your response a taste, a smell, a sensation, a color, a sound, a thought?

Remember, we are looking at Actual Experience (AE) in this exercise. Dont complicate answering from past experience or mental reasoning.

Take care

I sat watching a slide in a playground - and in the gaps i was seeing nothing - in the sense that there was no separation from the slide and everythign around it - it was like seeing in 2D. I also focussed on at ree and the same thing happened I could not distinguish branches or leaves - it was all one canvass - all there was, was just seeing and nothing else. Then I looked at a bird - did not try to make out what kind of bird it was and it disappeared and yet was still there - I could not distinguish between the bird and the grass - again there was just seeing. Do you want me to look at a cup specifically too? It was just that I was outside and had time to do the exercise and took advantage of the moment

Hi Muminjah, vince here, i will work with you for a while as Samadhi is unavailable at the moment.
Do you want me to look at a cup specifically too?
No need for the cup exercise as you saw what was being pointed at with what you did.
all there was, was just seeing and nothing else.
So what happened to the seer and the seen?
What was happening with thoughts while this was happening?

Thank You Vince for stepping in -
So what happened to the seer and the seen?
What was happening with thoughts while this was happening?
In those moments there was no seer, just unfolding flow of experience - nothing to grasp onto,. No distinction between seer and seen.

There was no thought while this was happening just the seen in the seen.

Good morning Buminjah,
In those moments there was no seer, just an unfolding flow of experience
Excellent seeing. Yes, the seer and the seen are concepts. Useful in language but no inherent existence.
So having seen this, what is the story about a Self?

So having seen this, what is the story about a Self?
it is a magic trick - I mean who made up the story of kings and queens and royalty. who made up that black people are inferior to white people? women are inferior to men? The self is the biggest human lie that has ever been told, a fraud, a scam, a disease and a dis - ease. So many people addicted to the self. I went swimming today - and it was so easy to step into the water without a self saying oh it is so cold, it is freezing. The story of self has become so poetic that it has filled the libraries, taken up space on screens, and manipulates society. I no longer believe in the self! All we are - are condensed lumps of energy in flux, in flow

Good day Buminjah, let's go through these questions and see if there are areas that we might investigate further.
1) Is there a separate entity 'self', 'me' 'I', at all, anywhere, in any way, shape, or form?
Was there ever?

2) Share in your own words what the illusion of a separate self is and how it shows up in experience. Also, through your inquiry, what is different now?

3) How does it feel to see this?
What is the difference from before you started this dialogue? Please report from the past few days.

4) Was there a point where a 'shift' happened? What was it that pushed you over; made you look?

5) a) Describe decision, intention, free will, choice, and control. What makes things happen? How does it work?
Give examples from your own recent experiences of how things happen and how things work.

b) What of responsibility? Give examples from your own recent experiences of how this works.

6) Anything to add?

with love
