Someone here?

Postby Neally21 » Thu Jan 21, 2021 8:52 am

LU is focused guiding for seeing there is no real, inherent 'self' - what do you understand by this?
I have a sense of a person, a me present in my experience. I have read and heard that this is false which I believe, though seems to be very difficult to see through. How can an illusion see through an illusion, an apparent person see through a false person?

What are you looking for at LU?
I’m looking for support in investigating ‘who appears to be writing this’ as there is doubt, distraction and resistance to doing so on my own. It sounds simple but feels impossible! Can someone help point to where I am getting stuck. I notice when I am going into my story ie. my life is rubbish....etc etc. It’s such a familiar groove and yet is harder to keep it going, believe it somehow as I know it is just a storyline running in my head. It’s like being in a trance and when it’s gone I wonder about it.

What do you expect from a guided conversation?
Looking into my experience mostly, following prompts and lines of enquiry. It may be hard to answer them I’m not really sure. Of course there are doubts that I can do this and also fears that I’ll lose control even though I know on an intellectual level that I am not in control. I have some bodily fatigue so I am concerned that I may not be able to keep up the momentum sometimes.

What is your experience in terms of spiritual practices, seeking and inquiry?
20 years of meditation in various Buddhist groups. Introduction to non duality about 10 years ago which had a strong effect. Nowadays I seem to oscillate between Buddhist ideas/ practices and non dual stuff. I sense the Buddhist stuff may be on the way out though as the simplicity of this approach speaks loudly but who knows? I’m not the best at diving into things and tend to be at a distance or arms length. I’ve watched Tony Parsons a lot and all the other non dual presenters on You Tube and read some books. I have experienced what I would call positive feelings around the no self stuff like joy and wonder albeit temporarily.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how willing are you to question any currently held beliefs about 'self? 9

Today the administrators received the following note from this client:
Please can you hold my account for just now. A family member has taken ill so I’ll not have time at the moment.
