HI Kay,

Great video. Very interesting how the combination of sensation and sight create the illusion of 'mine'. I feel clear on the body. If something comes up, I will be honest and ask for clarity. I want to clean 'house' until there is absolutely no 'house'.
But is there an experience that the ’now’ is moving along the line of time?
Any experience of one ‘moment’ giving way to the next?
Any actual experience of one event following another?
No, 'now' is not moving. Thoughts are moving, it is always 'now'.
No AE of one event following another.
How fast is the ‘present moment’ actually moving?
The 'present moment' is not moving.
Just look at 'this moment', can you find a point where it began?
No, there is no beginning to 'now' or 'present moment'.
How long does the ‘now’ last?
'Now' is always. "How long does the 'now' last?", does not apply.
Where does the ‘now’ start, and where does it end?
There is not beginning or ending.
When does the ‘now’ exactly become the 'past'?
'Now' does not become the past, it always is. Only thoughts become the 'past'.
What is the ‘past’ in actual experience?
Thought.
So is there actual experience of ‘time’ or thoughts about ‘time’?
No, only thoughts about 'time'. The AE of 'time' is thought.

Great exercise.

Thank you,

Lee

First question:
But is there an experience that the ’now’ is moving along the line of time?
Any experience of one ‘moment’ giving way to the next?
Any actual experience of one event following another?
No, 'now' is not moving. Thoughts are moving, it is always 'now'.
No AE of one event following another.
To be more precise about: "Any actual experience of one event following another?", the AE of one event following another is thought.

Hi Lee,

Terrific! I think the video is great too. Really shows how there is no connection between sight and sensation at all! :)
Yes, one event following another is an appearing thought. And what does that thought point to? Does it point to AE or just further thought?

Are thoughts really moving?
Where does the knowing of thought end and thought begin? In other words, in actual experience, is there a border where a thought stops, and the "knowing" of it starts?

Just look at 'this moment', can you find a point where it began?
No, there is no beginning to 'now' or 'present moment'.
‘Now’ doesn’t refer to a time, nor does ‘here’ refer to a place.
HereNow points to the current and evident knowledge of experience, no matter what it is appearing as.
Where does the ‘now’ start, and where does it end?
There is not beginning or ending.
Exactly, there is only ever NOW. Actual experience always and only happens this instant. Otherwise it can't be actual experience.....actual experiencing 'past' is not doable, all there is actual experiencing 'past' this instant, is 'thoughts of a past', likewise with 'future'. They only exist as thoughts.

So, this following exercise may seem a little trippy…I think you will enjoy it!

Look into the mirror throughout the day. Body image appears... notice that all that's really there are some colours, and a thought-story saying 'these colours are my body'

When you return to the mirror each time, consider whether these 'body colours' have ever appeared before.

Consider whether this body image + story has ever appeared before - or is this the only time you have ever been aware of these *exact* colours and this exact story about the body?

Can you find any previous appearances of the body? Where are they? If not how can it be known that the body has appeared before?

Isn't it just an appearance ‘now’ and isn't there only a thought-story claiming you've seen this body before?

Do that for today and report back what you find.

With love, Kay

Hi Kay,

Definitely. My computer broke a couple of days ago. I’m using my phone now. I will be back up today or tomorrow.

Thanks for checking in. I did the exercise you suggested. I’ll report back.

Hi,

My daughter thought it would be good to hit my computer, the computer didn't like it. We are back up and running.
Glad to be back working with you.
Yes, one event following another is an appearing thought. And what does that thought point to? Does it point to AE or just further thought?
Further thoughts.
Are thoughts really moving?
No, thoughts are not really moving, just appearing then disappearing.
Where does the knowing of thought end and thought begin? In other words, in actual experience, is there a border where a thought stops, and the "knowing" of it starts?
There's no beginning or ending in knowing. There's no border with 'knowing' and anything known. Without the faculty of knowing, prior to thought, nothing would be sensed or 'known'.

Each time I looked in the mirror was the only time the exact colors or story about the body appeared. The 'other' times were in the past and did not exist currently. Each time the colors, shapes and story was there thinking 'my body'.
Can you find any previous appearances of the body? Where are they? If not how can it be known that the body has appeared before?
No, previous appearances happened in the past, they are nowhere. Only thought says that it has appeared before.
Isn't it just an appearance ‘now’ and isn't there only a thought-story claiming you've seen this body before?
Yes, only appearance in 'now'. Only story claiming to see the body before. Every second is 'now'. One second past is in the past, and two 'nows' ago don't exist. LOL!

This was fun to see how the most intimate thing (body) that we call 'me' is just a story. Nothing wrong with it, but it is a story.

Thank you,

Lee

Hey Lee,

Yep…computers are rather sensitive to different forms of brutality LOL.
Can you explain this a little further for me please.
Consider whether this body image + story has ever appeared before - or is this the only time you have ever been aware of these *exact* colours and this exact story about the body?
Each time I looked in the mirror was the only time the exact colors or story about the body appeared. The 'other' times were in the past and did not exist currently. Each time the colors, shapes and story was there thinking 'my body'.
They existed in the ‘past’? What past exactly?
Isn't it just an appearance ‘now’ and isn't there only a thought-story claiming you've seen this body before?
Yes, only appearance in 'now'. Only story claiming to see the body before. Every second is 'now'. One second past is in the past, and two 'nows' ago don't exist. LOL!
Lovely…yes! When looking at the second hand on a clock, it seems to be changing. But, as you pointed out can 10 seconds ago be found in actual experience? 5 seconds? 1 second? The idea of change is always only a story about some experience "prior to this". But only THIS can be found. How could there have been another experience at all? Where has it gone to?

Past and memory go hand-in-hand as almost everybody believes that a memory thought is referring to something that has happened; that a memory thought is a different thought than a non-memory thought.

Please don’t go to thought explanation, but just let a memory be there, and look at it.

What is memory exactly?
What is the memory ‘made of’?

What is the exact difference between a ‘general’ thought and a ‘memory’ thought?

WHEN does the memory actually appear?
How is it known EXACTLY that a ‘memory’ thought refers to something that has happened?

Then, look at a thought about the future.
What is the future thought ‘made of’?

WHEN does the future thought appear?
What is the exact difference between a ‘general’ thought and a ‘future’ thought?
How is it known EXACTLY that a ‘future’ thought refers to something that will happen?

Then let’s compare a thought about past and a thought about the future.
What is the EXACT difference between the thoughts about past and future?
If there is difference, how that difference is known exactly?

Look at what is actually going on and not what thoughts say… but what actually is.

With love, Kay

Haha, I'm not sure where that answer came from, it started to get circular. There is no separation between knowing of the thought and thought beginning. In AE, there is no border where thought stops, and the 'knowing' of it starts.
There is no past. After reading my response a few times, I was referring to something that did not exist in now. Thank you for catching me on that. I was considering 'past' to be some-thing. Subtle...

Only thought. Memory is only 'made of' thought.
What is the exact difference between a ‘general’ thought and a ‘memory’ thought?
No difference.
WHEN does the memory actually appear?
How is it known EXACTLY that a ‘memory’ thought refers to something that has happened?
When thinking starts (answer for both).
Then, look at a thought about the future.
What is the future thought ‘made of’?
Thoughts or story. It is 'made of' nothing really.
WHEN does the future thought appear?
Now, only now.
What is the exact difference between a ‘general’ thought and a ‘future’ thought?
How is it known EXACTLY that a ‘future’ thought refers to something that will happen?
No difference between 'general' or 'future' thought. When thinking and labeling start is when a 'future' thought is identified.
Then let’s compare a thought about past and a thought about the future.
What is the EXACT difference between the thoughts about past and future?
If there is difference, how that difference is known exactly?
No difference in thoughts about 'past' and 'future'.

This exercise took a while to get through. I may not have grasped what you were looking for, but wrote what came up.

Thank you,

Lee

Hello Lee,

Memory is a conceptual framework that suggests there is a storage system from where thoughts and images are retrieved.

Actual experiencing 'time' is a great way of knowing about how time is experienced . Actual experience always and only happens this instant. Otherwise it can't be actual experience.....actual experiencing 'past' is not doable, all there is actual experiencing 'past' this instant, is 'thoughts of a past', likewise with 'future'. They only exist as thoughts, in actual experience. Don't believe me - don't believe what thoughts are saying either...have a look for yourself.
WHEN does the memory actually appear?
How is it known EXACTLY that a ‘memory’ thought refers to something that has happened?
When thinking starts (answer for both).
You mean when thoughts about seeming memories and a past appear? Without thought pointing to these so called ‘memory thoughts’ and saying they are referring to a past, then how is it known that they are from a ‘past’?

When do those so called ‘memories’ actually appear?

If thought appears saying you ate an ice-cream yesterday….where is ‘yesterday’ in actual experience. When is that thought and images of eating an ice-cream actually appearing?

Thought says I know what this is because it has happened before (memory). That is what they mean when they say the past has already happened. Not that we are observing the past, but it is only thought says this has happened before...that something is already known. Nothing has ever happened before…there is no time. So it seems we are living the same thing over and over. We see colour and immediately say it’s an apple because we know it’s an apple based on the past (concept of memory). Do I KNOW that right now? Do I know an apple? No...I don’t know an apple, never have known an apple; all I know is THIS/experience, exactly as it IS. It is only thought that labels things and say that they are known from a past.
Then, look at a thought about the future.
What is the future thought ‘made of’?
Thoughts or story. It is 'made of' nothing really.
Isn’t thoughts about a past and a future just content of thought? So 'future' thoughts are made of thought ABOUT a future?
WHEN does the future thought appear?
Now, only now.
What does ‘here and now’ actually point to? Does it point to a location and time or does it point to experience (THIS) that is always here now and is the ‘herenow’?

Yes, the thought about a so called future are appearing in the ‘current moment’ and they point to something that doesn’t exist! The same goes for thoughts that are labelled as ‘memory’ or ‘past’ thoughts.

Love, Kay

Hi Kay,

The thoughts of frustration and wanting to stop the investigation strongly came up after initially reading your response. When looking at it, it was from expectations to push through this quickly. I sat with it for a while and understood that a seeming 'me' was trying to protect itself from investigation. Pushing through quickly would leave some stones unturned. Latching onto the thoughts as 'me' or 'mine' is the foundation for the seeming separate self. It was interesting to see this as protection. None of the thoughts are AE, just stories. By just sitting and looking at this, it seems like something released.
Without thought pointing to these so called ‘memory thoughts’ and saying they are referring to a past, then how is it known that they are from a ‘past’?
Without the thought about past, there is no past in AE.

They do not actually appear.
If thought appears saying you ate an ice-cream yesterday….where is ‘yesterday’ in actual experience. When is that thought and images of eating an ice-cream actually appearing?
Yesterday is not in AE. The thought and image of eating Ice-cream is not actually appearing.
Isn’t thoughts about a past and a future just content of thought? So 'future' thoughts are made of thought ABOUT a future?
Yes, only content. Yes, thought about thought.
What does ‘here and now’ actually point to? Does it point to a location and time or does it point to experience (THIS) that is always here now and is the ‘herenow’?
Here and now only points to experiencing now or 'herenow' (I like that term).

Identifying with thoughts and labels are so habitual, they have seemed to be so real, and 'me' and 'mine.

Thank you,

Hello Lee,
The thoughts of frustration and wanting to stop the investigation strongly came up after initially reading your response.
What is it exactly that is ‘frustrated’?

The label ‘frustrated’ is the AE of thought and not AE of frustration.
The sensation LABELLED as ‘frustration’ is the AE of sensation and not AE of frustration.
The image LABELLED as ‘I/me/body’ is AE of colour and not AE someone frustrated.
The thoughts ABOUT ‘frustration’ and what ‘frustration’ is are the content of ‘frustration’ and are AE of thought and not AE of frustration.

So labelsensationcolourthoughts are known, but is frustration known?

When looking at it, it was from expectations to push through this quickly. I sat with it for a while and understood that a seeming 'me' was trying to protect itself from investigation. Pushing through quickly would leave some stones unturned. Latching onto the thoughts as 'me' or 'mine' is the foundation for the seeming separate self. It was interesting to see this as protection. None of the thoughts are AE, just stories.
Terrific Lee! It is great that you saw this expectation and saw what it was! There are no goal posts or finish line! There is no one ‘waking up’. Where in all of this is there a person waking up? Everything simply IS. However, thought will still appear saying many different things and telling a myriad of stories! Thought doesn't stop telling you that it's your car, your job, your body, your craving, your preference, your pain, your happiness, your this and your that. The label “I”, “me”, “mine” won’t stop appearing. Why would thought stop saying something just because it's seen what thoughts are? It's never been any other way. So wanting thoughts to be different or to change their tune is only another expectation.
By just sitting and looking at this, it seems like something released.
Lovely! How does it feel to see this? What is the difference from before you started this dialogue?
Without thought pointing to these so called ‘memory thoughts’ and saying they are referring to a past, then how is it known that they are from a ‘past’?
Without the thought about past, there is no past in AE.
When do those so called ‘memories’ actually appear?
They do not actually appear.
Maybe I worded this question ambiguously but what thought labels as ‘memories’ are only ever appearing in the current moment.

Let’s say a ‘memory’ appears of your last birthday and images appear of some of things that you did and further thoughts appear about how you felt on that day and even sensations may appear.

Did these ‘memories’ actually happen in the past, or are they appearing in this current moment? Where is the proof that there was a ‘last birthday’ and that it happened ‘last year’? Are not the images and thoughts ABOUT a past simply appearing now, in this current moment?
If thought appears saying you ate an ice-cream yesterday….where is ‘yesterday’ in actual experience. When is that thought and images of eating an ice-cream actually appearing?
Yesterday is not in AE. The thought and image of eating Ice-cream is not actually appearing.
I want you to think of a time when you ate ice-cream. Or when you ate your last meal and think of what you ate.
When are the thoughts and images about an ice-cream actually appearing? Are they not appearing in this current moment?

What does ‘here and now’ actually point to? Does it point to a location and time or does it point to experience (THIS) that is always here now and is the ‘herenow’?
Here and now only points to experiencing now or 'herenow' (I like that term).
What exactly is ‘experiencing’ experience? For there to be an experiencer of experience makes for two, which points to separation.

With the following exercise, let’s see if there is an actual experiencer of sound. In other words, let’s see if there is an experience of experience.

So with this exercise we are only focussing on the AE of sound.

Sit quietly, close the eyes, take in a couple of deep breaths to settle the dust and then listen to the sounds in the room where you are, or sounds from outside. Then when ready just choose one sound and pay attention to that one sound only.

1) In 'hearing' can anything be found, other than the AE of sound? (‘what can be heard’)?
2) Can what is doing the hearing be found? Or is there only AE sound?
3) Can an 'I', ‘ear’, ‘body’, ‘person’ be found? Or are these statements thoughts about an 'I', ‘ear’, ‘body’, ‘person’?
What do you find?

Look very carefully. Where does ‘hearing’ end and sound begin? Can a dividing line between ‘hearer’ and sound be found? Or is there just hearer/sound?

Can a 'hearer' ever be found in 'what is being heard' – AE sound?

If that is all, and no INHERENT HEARER is found . . . would anything that is suggested as the hearer be anything other than speculation / ideas / beliefs / thoughts etc?

Identifying with thoughts and labels are so habitual, they have seemed to be so real, and 'me' and 'mine.
What is it exactly that is “identifying with thoughts and labels”?

With love, Kay
