Hi Sanna...this is a long post...so take your time with it :)
Has it been clearly seen that there is no separate individual (“I/me”), and never has been?
Yes and no. I feel that I "get the point"; I "know" all the "right answers" but in everyday life things are about the same as we started this exploration. I understand that the has never been no separate individual, seeing that is not happening "naturally" yet.
Since there has never been a separate self/person, and this is the way it is and always has been…what would it feel like not to be a person?
When seeing that Santa Claus was just a story….did life change? Christmas still comes, Santa still appears on every street corner, Christmas trees with lights still appear and gifts are still exchanged. So Santa did not stop appearing…but it is known that he is just a fictional character!
So, the story of a character called ‘Sanna’ isn’t going to disappear, nor will the continuing story of/about ‘Sanna’ stop. What happens is the recognition that the character and the story is just that….a story. Just like knowing that a sunset is the AE of colour doesn’t mean a sunset will never appear…but you are aware that what thought labels as a sunset is the AE of colour; however the thoughts about a sunset are still going to appear as well.
Has it been clearly seen that there has never been a separate individual that could control or own life or anything?
Clearly: no. But when I "look", I can see this.
Great...so keep LOOKING; however, what is the expectation? Are you wanting the identification with an “I/self” to stop as proof that you have 100% clearly seen that there is no self? But that idea/thought is just another thought bubble and is seen in utter clarity. Even the idea that something is identifying with thought is just an idea. There is NOTHING here that can identify with thought. Only thought says that something is identifying as anything.
Is there any chooser or decider of any kind?
Part of me still thinks that I am choosing/deciding, but I know that it is false thinking.
Which part exactly “still thinks that I am choosing/deciding”? Describe this part to me in precise detail and describe to me where it is located. Is that not just another thought bubble appearing?
Is there a self in the body somewhere? Does it have a certain location, or feelings associated with it, or any other attributes?
I still feel the "separate self" within me, somewhere inside the head: observing, thinking, deciding, doing...
And is this “feeling” an actual sensation, and if it is, does this sensation know anything about a “separate self” or is this “feeling” actually a thought? Describe to me what inside of the head looks like. If you reside in the head, then you must know what it looks like there! Is there a little you, sitting inside the head somewhere....LOOK and see if you can find it!
It is generally believed that thoughts are coming from the head somewhere around the forehead. When we try to trace back the origin of a thought, it is often believed that it's coming from the forehead, because the attention automatically goes to the sensation of the forehead. Investigate this carefully as often as you can throughout the day.
What is the forehead in the actual experience?
A sensation + a mental image (of a forehead), right?
So, can a thought come from a sensation?
Can a thought come from a mental image?
Have a very deep look here... the forehead is one of the 'residence' of the SENSE of self. Or rather say, the sensation that is labelled as forehead is believed to be one of the location of the sense of self.
Is there a self that is inside the body, perceiving a world that is outside?
Yep, still feeling that.
Thought says that the foot is ‘down there’. So presumably you are above your foot. Where are you? Sit quietly, close your eyes, take a few breaths and locate where you feel yourself to be. Locate yourself vertically in the body, horizontally to the left or right, and depth, how far in. Feel how big you are, where you reside.
Then point with a finger to ‘you’. Open your eyes and let me know where your finger is pointing?
It is also believed that both the 'visual sight' and 'mental images' are coming from the eyes, because when it's investigated the attention automatically goes to the sensation 'of the eyes', and at the same time the image 'of the eyes' appear with it.
So another SENSE of self is linked to the sensation 'of the eyes'.
What are the eyes in the actual experience?
A sensation + a mental image, right?
Can sight come from a sensation?
Can sight come from an image (of the eyes)?
Can a 'mental image' come from a sensation?
Can a 'mental image' come from another mental image (of the eyes)?
Do you notice a difference now, to when you first started this exploration, and if so what are those differences?
Yes, of course!
- Even though I still feel the "Sanna" within me, I feel that I'm somehow more distant from "my story". I see that it is only thoughts and they are not true.
- It is also happening more and more that in everyday activities it is not "me" who is doing things, I see that things are just happening. So I feel more stressfree/happy/easygoing knowing that it is not me who is doing things but things are just happening.
- I am also amazed how freaking beautiful and overwhelming this Maya is! How it is soooo easy to get distracted and sucked into Maya and lose the interest to LOOK.
- I've noticed some small things happening: some things that I need come to me instantly.
Lovely, Sanna. So a shift in perception has occurred, and this is the subtleness of the shift. There are no trumpeting angels or flashing white lights etc, there is just this gentle shift in perception.
Is there any confusion at all or anything you would like to address?
Are these "doubts"/thoughts part of the "normal" process or do you think this is going anywhere?
Doubt and confusion are normal and will continue to appear for some time after seeing through the idea of the separate self. Seeing through the separate self is just a beginning and not an ending. There are other realisations that will continue to occur after ‘gating’. The key is to continue LOOKING and being persistent, consistent in LOOKING - day in and day out.
Let’s have a look at the idea of ‘confusion’ (and do this for ‘doubt’ as well)
The label ‘confusion’ is the AE of thought and not the AE of confusion
The thoughts about ‘confusion’ are the AE of thought and not the AE of confusion
The sensation labelled ‘confusion’ is the AE of sensation and not the AE of confusion
The image labelled ‘me/body’ is the AE of colour and not the AE of confusion.
So, in actual experience, can anyone/anything be found that is confused? Or what is really appearing is label + sensation + colour + thoughts ABOUT confusion?
When thought, colour, sensation, smell, taste, sound appear…is there any confusion or doubt at all to when they appear and what they are?
Love, Kay
