impression of opening new reply.
Vague soup of "esoteric" thoughts
Awareness of perceptions and sensations of fingers on keyboard
Memory of first DMT breakthrough
narrative soup with content related to mental construct of "other" identities in a projection of the "future"
there is no "other"
i am the entire experience arising
there is no "self"
yet everything is Self

Sorry for the insistence but that's what I'm suppose to do, poke you until what you are sharing sounds clear.
Leave thinking to the side. What do you see?
Without a real self what remains, what is here?
What is thinking thoughts? What is feeling emotions? What is seeing reality? What is writing a reply? What is moving the body?
Don't write theories, ideas, don't give definitions.
What do you see if you look for a self?

No worries. It's definitely a useful process to be pushed out of one's comfort zone in this analysis and process. Much appreciated. :)

Somewhat amusingly I just spent around an hour typing out an extensive and detailed response which addressed everything asked for and more, that appears to have been lost in submission. A nice reminder to save important work! Be back to try again later...

When I read this thread, I see the description of processes arising and passing.

When I say; "What I am is the entire experience arising" this is not conceptual. This is a description of a process occuring. A realisation in continuous process.

That could be deconstructed into a list of components, sure. But the list of components is not the totality of the experience in synergy, unless it is very deeply and subtly understood as such.

To me it seems no less immediate and valid than; "impression of sensation that could be conceptualised as fingers on keys"

If I were to type; "sensation of fingers on keyboard" it could imply there was separation as well as leave a lot out in terms of how the experience was processing; that there was a perception arising that appeared to exist in a certain way, that there was interpretation of perception, that there was a conceptual back-drop that framed the experience.

To see the list of components and the totality as the same requires the realisation of what the experience arising actually is.

To communicate the realisation of what the experience actually is in words and concepts of any kind, whether apparently conceptual, or slightly less conceptual (fingers on keyboard) is possible, but only if the recipient of the communication is ripe to realise it.

There is the conceptual understanding, and the lived experience, and the lived experience is when the self is dropped.

Whenever identity of any kind, "self" or "other" arises, it's known to be impersonal, impermanent, and conditional.

The tension is gone. Even when a tension or contraction arises, it is known to be impersonal, impermanent, and conditional.

This is not conceptual. This is a description of exactly what is happening right now.

There is no separation. This is a description of exactly what is happening right now.

How do I express "there is no separation" in terms of;

"keyboard under fingers"
"focus on screen"
"glance at keyboard"
"realisation that the body sometimes looks at the keyboard to find a letter when the autonomic conditioning process fails to connect with cognition"

none of these processes involve a "self" or are otherwise separate from the totality of what is that i am.

"twinge on upper cheeks and contraction into identity flashes in a single second, with the concern that i may appear arrogant. (narrative identification)"
"memory of having written and lost one of the best things relating to this topic that have ever flowed through this apparent bodymind complex this morning." (spent an enjoyable hour knocking it out, couple of tiny twinges of identification followed, but they were known as such as they arose)

this could be an example of a far more complex and interdependent process than a list can really do justice to.

Tenacious D's "Tribute" comes into thought process "it was the best song in the world..."

"Absurdist mental psychodrama" This is a direct description of what is actually happening. Certainly, it could be put as; "imagine what it would be like to be a cat" or "narrative arises involving an identity or "self" both as an observer of the process and as a character in the process".

"Left thumb rubs inner corners of both so-called eyes"

The entire phenomenon of an exterior world and a separate body that interacts with it is unconvincing. All that is there is light, creating the illusion of depth and space and inner and outer. it's just one thing playing a prank on itself.

Same goes for the other phenomenon of perception, interpretation, conceptual map of reality and patterns or processes.

A lot like The Heart Sutra.

"Reality as a whole IS what I really am." This is not conceptual. This is a holistic communication of what is arising as experience. How is that broken down into a list? Maybe a good exercise to try another time actually.

Here is an example of a deconstructed process:

"Warm feeling rises from solar plexus to heart along with sensation of tightness in tops of cheeks and head tilts down and to the right"
"Background map is the belief that "I" am giving "you" a hard time"
"Interpretation of experience is that the experience of shame/regret/compassion/gratitude/desire to make good/, is arising as a whole"
"continual background awareness of the whole experience as impersonal, impermanent, and conditioned"
"background awareness that this process will be a good one to deconstruct and post"
"wondering what to type next"

"decision or volition arises to post this before it gets lost like the last one"
"awareness arises relating to tingles on forehead that are an aspect of the conditioned state relating to the possibility of losing what has been typed"
"awareness of bulked feeling in outer upper arms" this also seems to be part of the somatic cluster that arose as part of the programming anchored to the belief that what is being typed might be lost; anxiety, projection, memories, sankaras, reactive formations. These can arise, of course, in any form that they do, but they are known to be impersonal, impermanent, and interdependent in arising.

"awareness of the tendency within the current map of reality to interpret the perception of the fridge motor running as being the fridge motor running."
"glance at guitar"
This could also be broken-down into it's experiential elements.

Without the map of reality as a reference point there is no idea of who or what or where or how or why.

Without the belief and investment or attachment to the narrative, the identity clusters are unconvincing impostors masquerading as "self".

"process involving fantasy narrative regarding posting quotes and what "I" would type about not posting quotes in case my response got overlooked"

"process of amusement arises, where there is the perception of sensation interpreted as air expelled from right nostril, slight crouching of torso and head dip to lower right, body sensations are interpreted as pleasant, jumbled narrative only half composed of words;

narrative recalls Alan Watts lecture where he talks about Zen masters continually sending their students away by telling them there is more to learn and they haven't quite got it yet. The student is bound to the search by his own idea that there is a search, until he realises what's going on and confronts the master, who again tries to trick him into believing there is more to know. This continues until the student has mastered the masters bullshit and doesn't fall for it anymore.

Obviously the mind threw up a jumbled condensed impression of the story. That is what was experienced, though all the content was there as impressions.

simultaneously there was the comparison with the process occurring here and now, and a wry comparison.

this involved temporary identification with a story regarding what is happening here, and who "I" am, and who "you" are, which is all a construct, and all part of the one thing arising as experience.

Experience is draped in the costume of concepts and identity; the emperors new clothes and hat.

There is the conceptual understanding, and the lived experience, and the lived experience is when the self is dropped.
should really be;

There is the conceptual understanding, and the lived experience, and the lived experience is when the personal self is realised to be impersonal, impermanent and conditioned and dropped as an object of attachment or aversion. This applies to all identity related phenomenon.

Donald, even if you write a one thousand pages book explaining how you think things are and why they are like they are, you aren't addressing what is being asked of you here. What's been asked aren't explanations, theories, ideas, hypotheses, etc, etc.

I can write a book about Germany and I've never been there. I have no experiential knowledge about Germany, only ideas about it. The only way I can talk about Germany from my own experience is by going there and, after having experienced it, I can describe my own view of Germany. My description may not be similar to the way other person would talk about its own experience but we would recognize we were both talking about Germany.

Here is the same. If you can see a self is an illusion, you are able to describe how you see this in your own words. This is like the difference between reading a menu and describing the taste of the food.

You say you are sure that a self is an illusion. How do you know that? What do you see here and now that lets you know a self is an illusion?

Honestly, this makes so much more sense to me WITH the commentary, that contextualises it, but what was described above was exactly what was happening when it was typed.

There is more than one way to describe what is being directly experienced. ALL of them are conceptual.

The "shopping list" format has it's own advantages, and it's own limitations.

This was delivered above as below, but with additional commentary:

"keyboard under fingers"

"focus on screen"

"glance at keyboard"

"realisation arises that the body sometimes looks at the keyboard to find a letter"

none of these processes involve a "self" or "entity" or are otherwise separate from the totality of what is that is arising.

"twinge on upper cheeks and contraction into identity flashes in a single second"

"the impression of concern that "I" may appear arrogant arises." (narrative identification)

"memory of having written and lost one of the best things relating to this topic that have ever flowed through this apparent bodymind complex this morning."

Tenacious D's "Tribute" comes into thought process "it was the best song in the world..."

"lyrics repeat in mental space"

"focus of attention returns to process of typing this out"

"Absurdist mental psychodrama arises where there is a narrative imagining what it would be like to be a cat"

"perception of outer experience withdraws into daydream of this narrative and occupies awareness."

" the narrative arises involving an identity or "self" both as an observer of the process and as a character in the process".

"Left thumb rubs inner corners of both so-called eyes"

there is no "self" involved in this process, or any other. the process just arises and passes.

"Warm feeling rises from solar plexus to heart along with sensation of tightness in tops of cheeks and head tilts down and to the right"

this somatic process arises relative to the below processes:

"Background map arises including the belief that "I" am giving "you" a hard time"

"Interpretation arises that the experience of shame/regret/compassion/gratitude/desire to make good/, is arising as a whole cluster of identification"

"continual background awareness of the whole experience as impersonal, impermanent, and conditioned"

"background awareness that this process will be a good one to deconstruct and post"

------- ------- -------

"wondering what to type next"

"volition arises to post this before it gets lost like the last one"

"awareness arises relating to tingles on forehead that are an aspect of the conditioned state relating to the possibility of losing what has been typed"

"awareness of bulked feeling in outer upper arms" this also seems to be part of the somatic cluster that arose as part of the programming anchored to the belief that what is being typed might be lost

"awareness of the tendency within the current map of reality to interpret the perception of the fridge motor running as being the fridge motor running."

"glance at guitar"

"narrative and sensations arise related to what "I" would type right now about not posting quotes"

I've not actually read any other threads on this forum, but from the examples of "what you are looking for" that have been kindly shared, I would like to offer the following observation:

It appears that there is not much room for the processes relating to the presence and functioning of the "map of reality".

It appears that there is not much room for the processes relating to the interpretation of what is arising.

All the focus seems to be on perceptions and actions, described as individual separate processes, ignoring the subtlety, interconnectedness, and dependent arising.

What I've attempted to communicate is both the deconstruction and the scaffolding.

If the scaffolding is obscuring the communication of the deconstruction, then I apologise for the lack of clarity.

It was however my intention, that the scaffolding would contextualise and make the deconstruction clearer.

Excerpted from page 5:

The bodyform reaches for glass, raises it and drinks a sip.

The head shakes from side to side in an experiment to see how the visual process appears and it the screen can be read.

Listening suddenly to Genesis Sunfire in the background on YouTube.

Totally think this dude is brilliant.

(that's not a description of what is happening. it is something that decided to be typed.)

daydreaming about something there is no recall of now

Genesis Sunfire voice

awareness of key interface

taking in the Genesis Sunfire meme with the perspective of an imagined hearer

thinking about what to say (this does not mean there is a true separate identity doing the thinking)

drift into conceptual daydream about how the world is which subtly implies "I" am separate from the rest of what is arising right now.

a massive amount of processes have passed since there was any typing. approximately seven minutes have passed in the trash going out meta-process.

any process within that meta-process typed about now would be from what we call memory.

Genesis Sunfire voice arises again. His words seem to make sense and the meme of him may program some will towards following his example.

Excerpted from page 1:

Warm sensations on upper body.
Mental sense of the thing you call it when you can't think of what to say.
Visual perception, including screen and limbs and blurry room.
Sense of being.
Bird sounds through open window.

There is a sense of self that often attaches to various perceptions, thoughts, feelings, and personal narratives.

I'm making breakfast and a friend enters the room in a bad mood.
Sensations arise which are uncomfortable
A narrative begins in the mind which explains his state and projects that he is going through a learning experience.
There is a sense of self attached to these processes, which reflects back on the awareness as an identity.
A map of reality is present with an apparent history and interpretations of what is happening now.

Excerpted and refined, from page 2:

"Donald" is a faint tension across the forehead"

in tandem with:

"Donald" is a collection of idea-processes in the form of stories and identifications with thoughts as relating to a "self"

Identification arises with a sensation of density above the kidneys, to which are attached various narratives and ideas about "Donald" in relation to "the world".

"Donald" is a thought-cluster that suddenly arises that appears to decide that examples of specific thoughts are expected.

A story about "Donald" going to Costa Rica plays in the mind.

"Donald" reviews what he has written and appears to decide that further examples are needed.

"Donald" is also habitual patterns of behaviour, as described below:

"Donald" glances at tab-bar and notices Facebook.

There is an urge to open the Facebook tab.

This is identified with as a "trait" of "Donald".

There is a "thought-storm" of things that could all be subjects that might be thought about by "Donald".

Thoughts about thoughts arise and pass in torrent.

Most of the thoughts include "Donald" as a "self" either in first, second or third person perspective.

These "selves" are experientially real as they exist as phenomena that can be observed in process, but may be noticed to be constructs, without inherent objective meaning or validity.

There are only processes arising and passing, which have a tendency to be identified with or personalised into "Donald" and the "Story of Donald".

Re: Self Banishing Rituals

Excerpted and refined from Page 4:

urgency to go to toilet
light translated into perceptions of room
pattern operating to express processing of data via keyboard interface
sensation of "keys under fingers"
interpretation of screen as data that feeds back out as processed data on the screen through unknown congnitive process
concept of "unknown cognitive process"
perceptions of various sounds in room that wave in and out of apparent conscious awareness:
clacking of keys
hum of refrigerator
ticking of clock
buzz of monitor
thoughts are heard
There is a half-disbelieved conceptual idea that what is heard internally and what is heard externally are different and a wondering of how so-called "hearing" really works.
Glance at mp3 player
there is an instant recognition of what the item is and what it does and how "i" feel about it; slight attachment is noted along with a small instantaneous relief that the mp3 player is there, simultaneously with the noting that "i" can use this complex of phenomena for this list. The totality of that one second could be further expanded and explained, but this type of process is continuously arising and passing in relation to whatever is arising.
awareness of body pops in and out; slight tension in shoulders, recurrent urgency to go to bathroom, awareness of sensations related to the construct i call "feet" under table.

Every perception, idea, interpretation and action that arises is non-dual in nature.

There is no separate "self" who is experiencing what is arising.

Experience is just arising.

There are "self-identified" clusters that arise and pass.

There are "other-identified" clusters that arise and pass.

None of it is a true individual permanent identity or entity, separate from the rest of what is arising.

impression of opening new reply arises in perception.

Vague soup of "esoteric" thoughts arises in perception which includes very little word content but appears to have or gives the impression of mental weight and form.

Awareness of perceptions of environment including sensations of "fingers on keyboard"
