Hi Q, so sorry for the silence. The last set of questions gave me pause for reflection and then I didn't quite find the time to stop and respond - my apologies. Many thanks for the following up, I am keen to continue.
Question 1: Is there a separate entity 'self', 'me' 'I', at all, anywhere, in any way, shape or form? Was there
ever?
No, although it has certainly felt that way in the past! No there never was, although the illusion was deep and compelling.
Question 2: Explain in detail what the illusion of separate self is, when it starts and how it works from
your own experience. Describe it fully as you see it now.
It starts at the point of 'conscious thinking'. It is the internal narrator, the voice seemingly inside one's head. It gives the illusion of separateness, of agency, of control.
Question 3: How does it feel to see this? What is the difference from before you started this dialogue?
Please report from the past few days.
The overriding feeling is one of calmness. I felt a distinct quietening, that seems to be seeping ever deeper. This feeling of calm, quiet, centredness is different from before I started this dialogue.
Question 4: What was the last bit that pushed you over, made you look?
I think the point which pushed me over was when I was asked to point to 'me', following the process of describing my reality in the moment, and then separating what was real from that with was imagination, labelling and so on.
Question 5: Describe decision, intention, free will, choice and control. What makes things happen? How
does it work? What are you responsible for? Give examples from experience.
Decision is the point of action. Intention is the feeling that leads to decision and action. Free will is the illusion of complete control over thoughts and actions. Choice is having more than one option to take on your journey. Control is allowing things to be. I am responsible in so far as allowing things to be, to practice kindness, to retain insight and to not allow illusionary thoughts to seize control.
Question 6: Anything to add?
At this stage, I am not sure I have anything to add, although I am keen to continue with the process as you see appropriate.
