Yes, my dear, I keep reminding you so get right on it? Tell me: is there a separate self that you can locate anywhere. Is there a "me" at all?

hugs

You always make me laugh ....

this isn't a decision to find a "me" because it's the "me" that's doing the looking ....

this is about sensing .... feeling ... experiencing ... No, I experience no me ... when I am in the body ... feeling .... .....when thought grabs for attention, then the "story" of me starts .... But is there a "me" I can locate ... nope ... just a bundle of thoughts, reactions, emotions .... and they are the same old crap .... UGH ...

Great answer...

try these ones next. :-)

2) Explain in detail what the illusion of separate self is, when it starts and how it works.

3) How does it feel to see this?

4) How would you describe it to somebody who has never heard about this illusion.

5) What was the last bit that pushed you over, made you look?

hugs, and take your time!

2. The illusion of a separate self starts with a story of something dramatic happening .. something that could get out of control ... or a worry that it will. The story escalates as thinking goes into ways to control the situation, person, etc. and the body reacts with a knot in the stomach, dissociation, etc. It's always story .... thoughts rambling, scrambling hoping to be able to anticipate something ahead that might cause this reaction in the body. What it boils down to is the separate self arises when the body is reactive and fearful. That's pretty much it. And it's the thoughts that create more fear by trying to control it ...

3. How does it feel to see this: .... mixed ... like part of it makes sense ... (not really) ... only because it's a habit ... and logically it's ridiculous.

4. How would I describe this illusion to someone who never heard of it? ... .. it would sound insane because it is. Basically I would tell them, keep all your attention/energy in the head/mind ...continually scan for any potential problems, or catastrophes ... find one, and begin thinking/anticipating all the horrible outcomes and what you will do to prevent them from happening .... until you make yourself sick and have no possibility of bringing our attention into the body/senses because the nervous system is so jacked up you can't do it.

5. I'm not sure what you mean in the last question ... what made me look ... when I can relax I feel the senses/and experience. It's an open, vulnerable place that feels good. If I were to make a guess, I was caught off guard enough times that it was not a safe place to be.

Honestly, I'm really tired of this old habit .... I hear things like "be ok with whatever happens" ... "accept, surrender and let go" and I get it .... then I feel the control panel light up ... and I find myself back in the old operating system .. up in the head where the mind is running its mouth.

But at lease I can see that .... and that's a good thing, right? .... would love to not have thoughts ....LOL

Hi Karolyn:

Can you answer question again for me, how it FEELS to see that the separate self/I does not exist? Is there a sensation in the body at this truth, or any FEELING (vs thinking) that arises?

You came to LU at the start of our thread, expecting liberation to free you from the fears/reactions that keep your "I" intact.

Has this happened?

I don't mean, have the fears/reactions ceased (though that too is possible) but what I mean is there a self still that these fears/reactions happen to?

over and out,

Lori Ann

How does it feel to see that a separate self does not exist? It feels open, relaxed, peaceful. No, the conditioned reactions and fears have not gone away .... but they are seen as a wad of jumbled neurology ...

Does the reaction happen to "anybody" .... no, they just happen like a stimulus response kind of thing that can turn into something personal (but not as strong as it used to) ... when that happens the sense of no self fades to the back ... But doesn't go away of course. Just recedes until the reaction subsides

Yes, I just today described to someone that the sense of self does not ever entirely leave, it moves into background or foreground, that's all. What changes and cannot be undone, is the belief in the self/I as a separate entity.

I looks to me like you are through the gate (and have been more or less straddling it for a two or more weeks)...it's not always a big fireworks, but the shift often arrives in whisper. It's also not an end point, but just a beginning of a new way of moving through the world, through life. Open, relaxed, peaceful is a huge shift for you from fearful, anxious and grasping to control and rescue. :-) It's a journey still, (on the pathless path, as they say) and we have an aftercare group on facebook that we'd ask you to, once confirmed. That group is a support and sharing with other liberated people, from brand new to old hands.

I'd like to ask some more experienced guides to peek in here, and see if they have more questions for you.

stay tuned karolyn,

big hug,

Lori Ann
