Hi Craig
How is it going? Where are 'you' at? Are there any sticking points or issues you would like to discuss?
Love, Fred

Hi Fred, just wanted to let you know that I haven't fallen off the Earth. I've taken these questions to heart and this 'self ' idea is evaporating in joy. I'm still writing. The process is full on.

Hello Fred,
thanks for all your help and care. I've been writing almost daily for the last week and now I've boiled everything down to a few cogent replies.

1) Is there a separate entity ‘self’, ‘me’ ‘I’, at all, anywhere, in any way, shape or form? Was there ever?
/
It’s now plain to see there is no separate entity with volition, with its own individuated existence separate and apart from the rest of existence. There never has been such a one.
2) Explain in detail what the illusion of separate self is, when it starts and how it works from your own experience. Describe it fully as you see it now. [

The separate self is a projection in thought. Thought rounds up perceptions and sensations and memories and projects scenarios and possible outcomes into an imagined future. Depending on the conditioning certain strategies for avoiding pain will shape the directions these mentations take. In my own experience I start to become angry and take things personally when situations at work don’t unfold as I would like. I work in a hospital in direct patient care so when we have a software glitch and patients are waiting needlessly I start to imaging situations where I’m yelling at the software developers for doing such a shitty job etc.
3) How does it feel to see this? What is the difference from before yo started this dialogue? Please report from the past few days.
Seeing the emptiness of the self concept has been a huge relief. I no longer take my software situation at work personally—I can’t. When stressful thoughts start to arise “I see” that there is no angry self behind the thought that is doing the thinking. The thoughts get seen, with this impersonal viewing, for what they are but there is no hook. I’t so pain and clear and ordinary, and life is lighter, patients are treated with greater care. I just don’t take my situation personally, and there are no ‘others’ that can make me suffer.
4) What was the last bit that pushed you over, made you look?
After you sent me these questions Fred, something snapped and I knew this process was going to take care of itself. My moment to moment subjective presence (which includes the Craigness) was clarified in this seeing that it is all unfolding effortlessly and that this moment could not be anything other than what it is. It became clear that this moment to moment subjective thinking was what I believed I had always been. The question that arises in the face of this is “okay,so what is the self that is thinking this, that is engineering this subjective experience like?” Of course there is no thing, no self apart from the thought of it. This leaves who and what I am shinning bright and clear.
5) Describe decision, intention, free will, choice and control. What makes things happen? How does it work? What are you responsible for? Give examples from experience.
Intention, choice, control are all ebbs and flows of energy and form. Choice happens and after the fact the thought ‘I’ says “I did it, I made that decision.” But all these things like choice and decisions happen so fast it would be impossible for a single self to be in control of all that.

I will be away from my computer for 2 days. I look forward to hearing from you.

with gratitude, Craig
