Otter Rivers Haha. So you could say there really is no choosing if there is no chooser. Both exist only as a thought. There are thoughts of plan making and after, there are thoughts that claim what happened as "I did that". And also, before during and after the act, thoughts arise with a story of why it was chosen. "Why I chose this and not that". But if you stay with your direct noticing of only direct sensory input you may have to admit that all there is is what happened and there is no evidence that ANYthing else could've happened.

Otter Rivers Direct experience also nullifies time, doesn't it? Where is the past? What is a memory other than a thought now? Same with the future. You never get there.

Otter Rivers I bring that up because time and choice have something in common. And it's very pertinent to our talk here. Can you tell me what both choice and time need in order to actually exist?

Karen Love this question! Choice and time need experience and thought. Thought drags up an experience from the past it also moves from now to the future. My experience:

Karen There is this place, best described as 'home' it is silent, the best way I can word it is the totally opposite of 'deathly silence' is has an aliveness. Even in this silence my ears can hear everyday noises.

Karen In this place, time is still, just there at that very moment, still and unmoving then it has gone...another moment but it is as though it is still (really hard for me to explain the experience in words)

Karen In a moment my stomach may rumble...thinking happens, the content is: What am I going to do for dinner...I now think of the FUTURE. Then PAST experience of taste of food and memories of what my family member liked previously occur in the content of the thought. Then knowledge of what is in the fridge.

Karen In truth I am pulled back to human everyday living by thought very quickly, but that silent timelessness is always there in the back ground and it is getting stronger. Damn, so hard to explain! What about, it is a constant wordless, timeless silence interrupted by every day human thought; Carrying past and present content. Seeming so real at the time but in truth it is not reality...home is.

Karen Just thought (PAST) Otter mentioned us going past the 222 comment line. then thought (FUTURE) we may make it to 333!!!! Love these questions make me look deeper ....maybe 333 is on the horizon on human time!

Otter Rivers We won't need that many more comments. . Consider this as well, time and choice both need a self to make them valid. Choice needs a chooser and time needs a someone to travel through it.

Otter Rivers But that's something we can discuss later elsewhere if we want. Anything else you want to add here?

Karen Thank you Otter, interesting point you raised. I guess you're referring to when in everyday life we plan for future or recollect the past, but surely not a self? There isn't one. It surely is just our bodily organism doing its thing with the thoughts, perhaps, giving an illusion of a self choosing to plan to say, meet up with someone in a weeks' time? In everyday practical life, our body and thoughts react to needs....but all by itself...I can't see there is a self choosing...it is happening as part of life! June 3 at 12:56pm • Like • 1

Otter Rivers Nice. Very welcome. Of course you see there's really not two beings talking here so gratitude is also an empty concept. But the appreciation which inspires it is a natural outcome. So I will shut up and say "you're welcome"!!! Hahaha.
