Confirm I passed the Gateless Gate

Postby edward123 » Thu Nov 14, 2024 2:24 am

LU is focused guiding for seeing there is no real, inherent 'self' - what do you understand by this? I understand that what we call "self" is merely a collection of thoughts like "I am x." It's not found in any feeling or sensation. Through direct looking at experience, it becomes clear that anything we consider to be "self" is just thought, while what's actually always present is shapeless, sensationless awareness - like seeing through a fish-eye

What are you looking for at LU? After reading "The Gateless Gatecrashers" and "Liberation Unleashed," and studying numerous liberation conversations, I experienced a breakthrough this April. Following the same inquiry processes used in student-guide conversations, I finally saw that no thought, sensation, or experience is "me" - there's just formless, sensationless, direct awareness. The simplicity and obviousness made me laugh. Since then, when I get caught in thought-beliefs, I recognize them as sensation-based habits and release them with sighs, each one dissolving stress. While I'm confident I've crossed the gate, I'd value confirmation from a guide and possibly explore helping others make this crossing.

What do you expect from a guided conversation? I'm looking to connect with someone more experienced who can verify my understanding and ensure I haven't overlooked anything crucial. I'd also appreciate being connected with others who have crossed this gate.

What is your experience in terms of spiritual practices, seeking and inquiry? As a second-generation Tibetan Buddhist, I've deeply explored various paths including Middle way teachings, Jed McKenna's "Enlightenment: The Damnedest Thing," Goran Buckland's "Refuting the External World," Ramana Maharshi's self-inquiry, and most recently, Liberation Unleashed over the past 1-2 years.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how willing are you to question any currently held beliefs about 'self? 11
