Re: Are you ready?

Just kidding. :P

2. Does experience belong to the body, or does the body belong to experience?

There is awareness.

Whatever awareness is aware of becomes the experience.

We use the term 'experience' because it encompasses the fact that the mind is making memories, gaining wisdom from its field ...

Re: Are you ready?

1. Is there an experiencer experiencing, or is there only experience?

There is awareness.

Whatever awareness is aware of becomes the experience.

Awareness could be said to be the experiencer, but for there to be an experiencer it is required that there be a subject and object. It is required that ...

Re: Are you ready?

1. Do you exist, in any sense? Is there an entity called John?
I don't exist, in any sense. To others, my body/mind is an entity called John, but to me, John doesn't exist at all. There is just being.

2. What is a self, and what is it's function? (or rather, the process of "selfing").
Since there ...

Re: Are you ready?

Just as no one is doing the falling, no one is doing the blowing, and no one is doing the thinking, no one is doing the being, either.

Re: Are you ready?

There is no controller! Everything is just happening! Observation is happening, awareness is happening, and you are nowhere to be found. You, as the controller, as the observer, as awareness, are nonexistent.

If snow falls from the sky, who is doing the falling?
No one, the snow is just falling ...

Re: Are you ready?

Well, I ask myself "Since chair refers to a physical object, it's real, in a sense. Isn't John real in a sense, too, in that it refers to the physical object of the brain/body?"

But that can;t be since you say 'John' is not real in any sense.

So now I'm trying to find exactly what the label 'John ...

Re: Are you ready?

So,

The label 'chair' isn't real, but the essence behind the label, the pure chair, the 'chair-ness', whatever you call it, is real.

The label 'John' isn't real as well, but the essence behind the label, the 'John-ness', isn't real either!

Is this what you speak of?

Re: Are you ready?

John, it's important to realize, you cannot "grasp" the illusion. You just have to see through it, recognize it as being a lie we've believed in. Once you see it, you cannot "unsee" it.
That makes perfect sense. You can't 'grasp' an illusion just like you can't 'grasp' a mirage. You just have to ...

Re: Are you ready?

It's ok, if you keep 'trying to get to the other side' or expecting something dramatic to happen, that in itself gets in the way of looking at what's there.

Sometimes, all there is, is a perceptual shift and a deep knowing, a seeing that yes, the self is nothing but an illusion and never was. No ...

Re: Are you ready?

I realized that I haven't seen through the illusion yet. At one point in this thread I'm almost certain I did, but only for a moment, and then it left me. The description I gave of how it felt was meant just for that moment. I keep writing stories to explain the illusion to people, but I keep ...

Re: Are you ready?

Hahaha, I don't understand your mistake too well, but your explanation makes sense. There's a difference between know, think, and see that we're fooling with here. :]

1. How does it feel to be liberated?
2. How would you explain it to someone who's never heard of this before at all?

1. Well, I ...

Re: Are you ready?

To expand upon my answer to And if I may, John, do you 'think' you don't exist, or 'see' you don't exist.

'I' doesn't think anything. Thoughts think, and thoughts think that 'I' doesn't exist. 'I' can't see that 'I' doesn't exist because there is no 'I' to do this seeing!

I know this, but do I ...

Re: Are you ready?

This all is great scaffolding, and last night thought really had a breakthrough, but thinking thinks more thoughts need to be thought to better cement this whole non-idea. Everything thinking has thought of so far has held up joyously, though. And if I may, John, do you 'think' you don't exist, or ...
