Re: dsm1963, this is your thread

A self is just a familiar collection of thoughts, memories, emotions, perceptions, etc. that seems like a real entity somewhere in the mind when in fact it has no real form or boundaries to it. This non-entity likes to take credit where credit is not due. It seeks validation through control ...

Re: dsm1963, this is your thread

How could there not be recognition of this no-self before? There had to be other moments when the self was in abeyance, but because the experience wasn't be owned, directed, controlled by an I, they went unnoticed. Unclaimed by a self! It seems so obvious now. Sure the old habitual I-thoughts will ...

Speaking conventionally, as how else could I, I feel like that song by Lady Gaga...I'm on the edge of glory!

Re: dsm1963, this is your thread

With eyes closed, what is known is emptiness. The same emptiness that is there during some meditation sessions. Just became aware of the clock ticking. Birds chirping outside the window. The heat blowing through the vents. There is no perceiver...only perception by the senses, interpreted by the ...

Re: dsm1963, this is your thread

What else am I but awareness? Awareness is what defines me without a self. Without awareness there would be nothing,; no experiencing of the experience of being.

Re: dsm1963, this is your thread

If I take off all labels, direct experience reveals that nothing is there but awareness, which is a label for experiencing. Something is still happening, call it knowing, experiencing, consciousness, awareness. Experience cannot be separated from knowing, experiencing, consciousness, awareness. As ...

Re: dsm1963, this is your thread

I realize that there cannot be a Doug without a story. What I was suggesting with not believing the story and "playing" a role as Doug is perhaps that is what happens after realizing that there is no Doug without a story. Because the story goes on even after liberation. But there is a seeing of the ...

Re: dsm1963, this is your thread

Thoughts without an I attached:
1.Today is Thursday
2.It sure has been a mild winter so far. Boy were the predictions wrong for a bad winter here in the Chicago area. No appreciable snow to speak of and temps in the 40's most of the time.
3.That tastes sooo good!
4.thankfully

I-thoughts:
1.I hate ...

Re: dsm1963, this is your thread

Upon awakening this morning the first thing that is directly recognized is the presence of awareness. Get up, put on robe...house is cold...use toilet. Head to kitchen to take my meds. Thought, "Today is Thursday." Make sure take pills from appropriately marked day of the week on the pill box ...

Re: dsm1963, this is your thread

The same f****** thing happened again and I made sure I was signed in. It even showed my username in the upper right hand corner. Something is wrong with this system. Does it time out? I was typing and thinking for over an hour. I'm way too pissed to even think about retyping all this again for the ...

Re: dsm1963, this is your thread

Sorry would have written sooner but I thought you wanted me to take time to observe how much of a self is needed for life before beginning a dialogue.

This morning when I got your message I clicked on post reply and typed away for quite some time. Then when done I clicked post reply and it said I ...

Re: dsm1963, this is your thread

1. It's a hot summer day and I think, "I want to go to the beach (Lake Michigan). Oh but if I go to the beach after noon the parking lots will be full and parking on residential streets is not allowed (been towed before). I'm not a morning person, so the odds of getting to the beach parking lots ...

Re: dsm1963, this is your thread

1. It appears as if something called I that is identified with is doing the typing. Nothing ever pours out of these fingers! lol There is always amazement at the amount of errors on the screen as I watch MY fingers do the typing. That same I claims ownership of the thoughts even though there is ...

Re: dsm1963, this is your thread

1. Most of the time it appears as if thoughts just emerge in the mind. Sometimes intention can generate creative, purposeful thoughts. Thoughts are usually linked to memory and are repetitious in nature like the annoying lyrics and melody of a song lol. Thought can be what I call a rehearsing of ...
