What exactly is witnessing?
Hmm... I don't know. It's like it's always there.
Can an observer be found anywhere?
No observer. Just things that appear. Knowing doesn't need a "self" to observe it.
Where is this witness located exactly?
When I see an apple, the witness is together with ...

Re: The fear of losing the illusory self
1) Is there a separate entity 'self', 'me' 'I', at all, anywhere, in any way, shape or form? Was there ever?
Just as thoughts! Haha it's quite amusing, because even this amusement is a "thought". Well, there are thoughts, but there was never a solid "I", "me" or "self" to be found at all - just a ...

Re: The fear of losing the illusory self
This seems clear now.Only thought tells a story about "There was sleep, there was no knowing".
That would be great. :)When this is crystal clear, then I would like to conclude this conversation in "The Gate" by posing the final questions.
Is that okay with you?

Re: The fear of losing the illusory self
Is there EVER no knowing?
When would that be?
How do you know that "There was no knowing"?
That's true, there is always knowing. I noticed that - why did I even know there was no dream, for example? I knew- but my experience was blackness, how long - I didn't know - but it was just pure blackness ...

Re: The fear of losing the illusory self
These apparent two are one.
Awareness/Knowing and Experience/Known.
What some call the "Knowingknown". Or just: "THIS"
This makes sense!!! Would it be right to say that when there is no experience, there is no knowing? Would that be "Nibbana" - extinguishment?
So can this be verified in actual ...

Re: The fear of losing the illusory self
Is experience labelled "day time" and "night dream" fundametally different?
Or is it just thought giving experience different "prime" labels.
Yes I understand that, experience are given "labels".
Is there more difference to it than one being more "blurry", the other one being "crisper"?

Re: The fear of losing the illusory self
How does it feel to see this?
To be honest, I'm quite surprised at it, but not in any big way, just like an "oh".
What is the difference from before you started this dialogue? Please report from the past few days.
I kept thinking that the Knowing was an "I", and that created a "I vs thoughts ...

Re: The fear of losing the illusory self
There are just sensations, just feelings, just thoughts. The "I" is just one big thought layered on top. It consistently surfaces repeatedly. It is just another thought. Apart from these, there is Knowing. Knowing sees the "I" thought, it sees there is also nothing behind the "I", it also sees the ...

When the knowing looks at the "I", it dissolves. Likewise for "bothered".

Re: The fear of losing the illusory self
Is there a one or a thing creating that hatred (or whatever)?
No, hatred appears out of emptiness.
Is there a one or a thing, which HAS that hatred?
No, it arises from emptiness separately from hatred.
Is there a one or a thing, TO WHICH the hatred happens?
No, hatred arises separately ...

Re: The fear of losing the illusory self
Can this thought be afflicted? Can a thought be afflicted?
I guess the feeling of suffering is again just a thought. Since the "I" itself is originally non-existent, what can be afflicted?
And is it true? Have a look! Or just another thought, trying to "explain" how this chain of thoughts came ...

Re: The fear of losing the illusory self
Is the knowing ever afflicted? Or isn't also "affliction" clearly known?
No knowing is not afflicted, affliction is also known. Strangely, the "I" thought feels bothered by afflictions continuously rising.
And isn't "that what is apparently afflicted" also clearly known?
Yup, the "I" thought ...

Re: The fear of losing the illusory self
Bizarre, perfidious this game is. But on the other hand also beautiful and thrilling, isn't it?
I can see what you mean by beautiful... I also see repulsion arising together with a thought of that yet-again persistent self.
Ugly and terrifying images can appear in a mirror. Maybe even a stain ...
