Right now, repeating it, "I" is a letter, a so-called "vowel".

Repeating "I am" doesn't seem to have grip either. Just words, sounds.

Of course there is no "thing" that can be located, partly because located refers to a phenomenon in space. There's no thing in or out of the body that does the knowing.

The knowing happens along with that which is known. And the sense of there being a knower - an "I" - can happen along with the ...

Sometimes I experience being "thoughts without a thinker", or see images without a seer. There's a flow of activity without narrative or comments "in the head". Doing things without a doer.
