Hi Luchana,

Thank you for getting in touch and for being my guide.

To be clear, do I need to take the words in bold and sit with them for a while or just give the answer that comes up?

Thank you,
Simon

Hi Simon,
Thank you for getting in touch and for being my guide.
you are most welcome :-)

Yes, the questions in bold are needed to be looked at.
When you are moving around in your daily activities just notice how does it feel.
It is good to spend a whole day and then reply.

Take your time

Hi Luchana,

Thank you!

Trying the exercise it appears as though all of it happens without my doing. I get the sense of time passing when Iook. Sort of a waking up feeling where now I'm present and it looks as though there was no doer and time has passed.

Not sure if there is something I'm missing but it feels automatic without needing my input.

Hi Simon,

you did a good looking.
Not sure if there is something I'm missing but it feels automatic without needing my input.
Nice :-) What is NOT automatic?
Is there something which is not automatic and need your input?

Sort of a waking up feeling where now I'm present
Is there something solid, real here, something which can or can't be present?

Please take a look at both questions for a whole day (many moments during the day) and reply each of them.

Much love
Luchana

What is NOT automatic? Is there something which is not automatic and need your input?
After looking it seems nothing isn't automatic. Looking at past experiences, it's only afterwards that it seems that there was anyone in control.
Is there something solid, real here, something which can or can't be present?
I can't find anything. Only experience which is sound, smell, taste, sight, feelings and thoughts. Thoughts causing the attachment to experience and belief of a doer.

Thanks again for these questions.

Regards,
Simon

Is it safe to say that this process is gradual and not just sudden? You slowly begin to realise there is no doer and just the happening and observation?

Thanks,
Simon

Exactly. It SEEMS that there was someone.
But was there ever?

Good observation.
Let's look at what is the experience of "thought causing the attachment"?
Can a thought cause attachment?
Does a thougth have some super power?
To cause attachment?
What is it that is suggesting this?

It is absolutely safe to say whatever is coming. Whatever may the experience - just share.
Realization that there is no doer (and it never was) may comes spontaneously, but it can also be very subtle. For each one is different. No one can say in advance.

How does it feel to see that there is no doer?
Does it feel strange? Weird? Scary? Funny?
What comes up.

And let's look at some more questions

If everything is happening

What about Simon?

Is Simon part of this happening as well?

Can the character in this happening (the story) chooses the story?

Can Batman decide to be Darth Vader for example?

Take your time.

Thanks again for these questions.

But was there ever?
The answer that comes up is no but any answer is just a thought no? I think I need more time with these questions to see?

Let's look at what is the experience of "thought causing the attachment"?
Can a thought cause attachment?
Does a thougth have some super power?

Another thought. But the knowing this doesn't change anything. It still all feels the same. I'm no different and thoughts still pull me away from this. With feelings I can pop out from times and they no longer have power over me but I'm sucked back in eventually...
How does it feel to see that there is no doer?
Does it feel strange? Weird? Scary? Funny?
What comes up.
Strange. Because although I don't find anyone here but the thoughts and experience I can't imagine that there is no controller. Looking at it I'd expect to see it obvious and clear but that's not the case. The feeling of a me remains.

What about Simon?

Is Simon part of this happening as well?

Can the character in this happening (the story) chooses the story?

Can Batman decide to be Darth Vader for example?
I think I understand what you mean. Batman is batman and he is following a predefined story and will say things which were written. Everything will play out as it should but batman is following a script. So are we then? All our experience led us to react how we do today, led me on this path? Led me to think thoughts that doubt who I really am?

I feel I may be looking incorrectly. Can you please reassure me on how to "look"?

Thanks very much for your time and patience. I apologize for the late reply and I will be prompt from here onwards.

Regards,
Simon

So after sitting with my eyes closed and listening to sounds while looking for who is listening; there is no one found. There are just sounds taking place within the space. With eyes closed there is only space, no outside world - they become one. Sounds are happening within the same place.

Same thing with thoughts, they come into the space and they leave but their power is still strong. I am still caught up in certain thoughts. So although I do not find anyone thinking or doing, I am still pulled into them. I am taking this as an indication that the realisation has not yet taken place and there is more work to be done. However I feel good progress is being made!

Hi Simon,

Let's start form the end :-)

I feel I may be looking incorrectly. Can you please reassure me on how to "look"?
Looking means this - simple looking at experience and not thinking about the experience.

All you have to do is to look your direct experience and write what feels true for you.
We look into the Direct Experience without assumptions and beliefs about what is. It is that simple.
What is Direct/Actual Experience - everything we can experience with the 5 senses+thought (noticing the thought, but not what content of the thought is ) Something like "Oh, there is a thought here".

So, when we say Direct Experience we mean - what is it that we see, what is it that we hear, what is it that we taste, what is it that we can smell, what is it that we can touch + thought, but not what thought is about.

For example - If I ask you what is the colour of your socks today you can think and remember what socks you've pick this morning, or you can just look and see what colour are they really.

So how to look?
Just focusing on your Direct Experience. Seeing with the eyes, hearing with the ears, feeling with the skin, smelling with the nose, tasting with the tongue. Sensation, before it is judged and labeled, is direct experience.

So can you descripe your direct experience at this very moment while reading this?

After we will continue with the other questions.

Much love,
Luchana

When you describe your DE in the first message you can look at this one :-)

Beuatiful!
Look - who or what can be pulled into thoughts?
Can something SOLID and REAL be found?
Beside a thought about it?

Light is seen from the screen and characters appear as fingers move across the keyboard and sensation is felt on touch. There is also a sensation of the chair against my body and my feet on the ground. It is all happening and being experienced.

Nothing can be found. Just experience taking place. Predominantly: sound, sensations and thoughts.

Good.
Is there something separate from wtat's happening? (from experience of whatever is happening)
Is there an experiencER?
By who or what is all this experienced?

There is also a sensation of the chair against my body and my feet on the ground.
What makes a body yours?
If you ignore all thoughts what is it that is experiencing the sensations?
Does a body experiencing?
Or the body is also experienced?
