Hi Graham,
Thinking about your question, it appears there is no one to look out. The world and perceiving are one and the same.
So what happened to "Graham"?

Best,
John

Graham was never real. Graham was simply a label put on feelings and experiences.

Hi Graham,

So, who's in control, who directs things now?

All the best,
John

Things are just happening on their own with no one in control. Some thoughts still come into the head of an "I" but they are recognized for what they are - thoughts backed by nothing.

Hey Graham,

Nice insight. So what has happened here? What has clicked?

Looking again at what you shared at the beginning, what is your sense of how this changes things for you?

Please write as much as you wish.
1) I'm looking for self-realization and release. I experience a lot of anxiety about events in my daily life, and while I can recognize the illusory nature of such emotions and thoughts, I cannot get free of them as much as I examine them. So I'm looking for a release and freedom at long last.
2) I've read a fair amount of spiritual material, particularly about nonduality and enlightenment experiences, but it hasn't clicked yet. I understand intellectually that there is no "I" and no owner of the thoughts and emotions but perhaps I just haven't dug deep enough. I expect a release from anxieties that take me away from reality and the here and now.
3) I would describe Graham's existence as constant flux. Sometimes happy and content, other times I experience a thought then anxiety and my emotional state shifts.
With kind thanks,
John

Hey, so today has been good, but there's still a feeling of resistance left. I feel as anxiety in the stomach and it's causing a little difficulty. Perhaps you can help work through it.

Hi Graham,

Excellent. With resistance showing its head we know we're bang on track. :) It's not your resistance, it's "Graham's" apparent resistance so no need to be at all concerned.

As for the sensations & thought bundle known as "anxiety", can you share what it is in your life that is/isn't happening for "Graham"?

"Graham" will be a holding a thought/belief/assumption (all thoughts) that "some thing should not be this way". The sensations in the stomach are the secondary effect of:

1. believing this thought to be true and
2. believe that it is "Graham"'s and
3. that you are "Graham" (which you are not).

All three of these have to be cooking for you to feel those sensations in the stomach. You are close now to seeing through 3. Then, 1 and 2 have nothing to grasp onto.

So, in the background of doing this, keep noticing how this bundle of social conditioning called "Graham" is, in every respect, realistic-looking but nevertheless is 100%, cast iron, FICTION.

You are way more mysterious! :)

Notice what you notice and report back.

With best wishes,
John

Sorry for the late reply. "I" made a lot of progress today! Most of the anxiety has been about uncertainty in the future which has finally softened to acceptance. Examination of the emotion and physiological events indicated it arose and went back to a state of "nothingness."

Morning Graham,
Sorry for the late reply. "I" made a lot of progress today! Most of the anxiety has been about uncertainty in the future which has finally softened to acceptance. Examination of the emotion and physiological events indicated it arose and went back to a state of "nothingness."
Nice one! :)

Graham, please describe in as much detail as you can the progress made?

Also, as you read this, experience the difference between:

1. I am reading this.
2. Reading.

As you go through the day, with each activity, notice the difference when you say:

"I am walking..." and "Walking happening all by itself".
"I am driving...." and "Driving happening all by itself".
"I am talking...." and "Talking happening all by itself".
"I am eating...." and "Eating happening all by itself".

Really spend the day doing this and report back what you find in as much detail as you can.

With best wishes,
John
