Re: what I am looking not to find

But whether they are "mine" vs. "me" vs. something else, I don't know yet. If it's "yours" how did you create it, how did you "grow" it? As to what the body does... get up… walk slowly… is there a controller that controls walking? Or is there just walking? Basically what I'm asking is whether there...

Re: what I am looking not to find

Regarding thoughts, I definitely cannot say I am 100% sure. How do I get to be sure? Can you create a thought right now? What would the steps be to creating a thought? Looking downward right now, I can see a torso, arms, and legs. Because your sight is the ultimate proof that something exists or no...

Re: Dan1

So in a way, I see again and again that the “I” is not real, but it's not because I can not find "I” – the “I” jumps up again and again, but it evaporates when I look a little deeper. You're talking like there's an actual "thing", some entity, that pops up every now and then and which bears the lab...

Re: what I am looking not to find

Others seem to follow a coherent "willed" path. But all that can be said is that a sequence of connected thoughts appears, cohesively enough to seem to have a purpose or intent to them. Are you sure they just "seem" to be willed? Owning thoughts is a pretty big chapter. We better not skip this one ...

Re: what I am looking not to find

Perfect. Now what about the other choices you made, and I dont mean picking a racket but getting married, picking college, your career, major stuff like that. Have "you" made those choices or did they just happen?
Have "you" ever chosen anything?

Re: Dan1

You need to take one step at a time and try to make sense of it all. If it's all a mumbo jumbo of worries and fears and ideas from McKenna you're not going to get anywhere. McKenna is more of a clown than the real deal, but there is something he is right about - take one step at a time and deconstru...

Re: what I am looking not to find

I'm someone who loves tennis and bowling. I am a husband and father who tries really hard to do the right thing as a parent, but I don't really know what I'm doing; I don't think anyone really knows what they're doing, but most people won't admit that. I am someone who tries but fails consistently ...

Re: what I am looking not to find

One big thing I'm struggling with is simply not clearly knowing, when we say there is no self (I, ego, subject, whatever), exactly what we're saying does not exist. Its good you brought that up. You do need to clear things out, including what the self is. So what is the "self" to you? What do you i...

Re: what I am looking not to find

Hi there, First of all, welcome to LU, and let's see if we can help. When you add on everything I've learned about how the selfless nature of consciousness is right there on the surface, so simple to see that its very obviousness makes it easy to overlook, I often now find myself deeply despairing o...

Re: Dan1

When Im looking at fear, encouraged by the perception you inspire me with, I see fear as a story…and looking closer then it looks more like an (unpleasant) sensation, and looking closer then it’s a movement, and there is no one there looking at that movement…then after a some time it gats even plea...

Re: Zen/Vipassana Practitioner, Interested in Direct Pointing

If there is still a pervasive sense of self, it's because there is some 'background process' such as desire to expand or sharpen awareness, desire to quiet the mind, determination, etc, that I am not seeing clearly as impermanent/non-self/not satisfying. The thing I'm not seeing clearly therefore s...

Re: Zen/Vipassana Practitioner, Interested in Direct Pointing

I'll look at the thoughts arising and ceasing. See them for what they are and enjoy the show. Good. Step two would be to start noticing how the thoughts weave stories and recognize them for what they are, which is mostly noise. Stories about who I am, what my goals and ourposes are, good and bad de...

Re: Dan1

som the fear is not just a label here – it alive and have a great momentum. The pain in fear is the spoiled vulnerable child wanting to hold on, and get more of the good stuff. What does "just a label" means? If you want things to change, you need to see through all those stories/beliefs you take f...

Re: Dan1

Im very clear about the fact that this sense of “I” is generated all the time from somewhere and creates holograms, kind of story with a somatic experience of vulnerable me who lives a vulnerable body. Good, so it's more like a story? A thought? Maybe a few sensations threw in the pot to make the s...

Re: Zen/Vipassana Practitioner, Interested in Direct Pointing

But there are always more thoughts, I can't reach the point where these is nothing behind them. You saw thoughts just pop up. That's good enough. Everything else is of no help in this inquiry. I would say its detrimental because it might turn into a purpose And some of the stories, good or bad, are...
