Re: waking up one breath at a time

Hi Nicola, I think we need to make the distinction between what is experienced, and what is a thought about experience When the foot meets the floor there is sensation, image of my foot on the floor , This is experienced – the mental image can be found , the sensation can be found a sense of boundar...

Re: waking up one breath at a time

Hi Nicola, Firstly, don't worry about feeling confused. Rather, expect it. It is usually that way :) I think we need to tighten up this inquiry. I'm going to put the questions in a different colour . Can you answer them all ? Also, if you could use the quote function , to show what you are answering...

Re: waking up one breath at a time

Hi Nicola, So what we are looking for is what is actually there, in our experience. When you go to the point where the foot meets the floor, something is happening... Do you agree with this? You rightly say that whatever we call that would be a learned concept. We are currently looking at physical s...

Re: waking up one breath at a time

Hmmm, interesting, that didn't work!! :)

There is awareness of something, yes. Shall we agree to call it sensation?

Look closely. Is there awareness and sensation? Can you separate them? Can awareness be found stand-alone, without an object? Or is there just sensation?

Re: waking up one breath at a time

Yes, great,

You see there is an experience, yes? But we need concepts to describe it, yes? You can have one word to describe what is experienced where 'the foot meets the floor' - what will you choose? ;)

Re: waking up one breath at a time

Hi Nicola,

Pressure, tingling, aching, shape, softness, hardness... Are these not learned concepts?

Re: waking up one breath at a time

Hi Nicola,

I'm raw experience, can you find 'foot'? If not, what is 'foot'. Where is 'foot' found?

:)

Re: waking up one breath at a time

Hi Nicola, Thanks for your reply. Yes there are sensations, nice :) The mind helpfully supplies that extra information from past experiences. Okay, the sensations were raw experience but here you are drifting into story. Can you find the mind? Can you find 'extra information'? Can you find 'past exp...

Re: waking up one breath at a time

Hi Nicola, Yes, 'I' is the label that is applied/describes experience. Great looking! I wonder if you hold an expectation that this process leads to that no longer happening? Or that the emotion/feeling and label will no longer arise? Let's look a bit more closely at this labelling. If you sit quiet...

Re: waking up one breath at a time

Hi Nicola,

I'm curious about your saying that thinking is definitely a function of l... Can you explain what you mean by that?

I'll await your response on how you've been getting on before we move forward,

Have a good time away!

Speak to you when you return.

Re: waking up one breath at a time

Hi Nicola, Thanks for your reply. It seems you really know how to look – and that is all this process really is, just looking at ‘raw’ experience as you call it. So you see sensation is labelled by thought. You also noticed an arising image. And you then saw a story arise about the experience (fear ...

Re: waking up one breath at a time

Hi Nicola, Thank you for your reply. I can relate to what you describe. I should say that thoughts and sensations will still appear after this process…. life pretty much still goes on the same…. but is seen differently – that is my experience anyway. There are various ways we could approach what you...

Re: waking up one breath at a time

Hi Nicola! Good to connect with you! You say you would like to dwell I the space of no thought more consistently... Is this what you are looking for? Is this how you see the process ending? Like there is a goal of no thought? Can you say what you imagine the end result to be? How you 'image' it? And...
