Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

There is a "Further Investigation" forum under "Unleashed". I also recommend checking out LU groups doing other kinds of inquiry, especially the "Ten Fetters" group. PM me if you want more info.

Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

Narracja,

Unfortunately, I am going to have to step back from guiding for a while, because my life has just gotten really complicated. I'm OK, but don't really have the energy to be a good guide right now. I'm very sorry.

Would you like to keep going with another guide?

Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

Touch something with your eyes closed, then open your eyes and look at your hand.

Is the feeling of the boundary in the same place as the sight of the hand touching the surface? How are the sight and sensation related?

Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

Where in all this is a sense of a boundary?

Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

Can you distinguish the sensations from the mental images of the hand? Sit with your eyes closed and your hand touching something for a few minutes. Pay attention to what you would label "hand".

Describe the sensations.

Then describe the associated mental images.

Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

Take a couple of minutes to do this. If you're too busy to do that, wait for a time when you have a short break, like when you're waiting for something. Put your hand on a surface and close your eyes. Feel the sensation. Is there a boundary in it? From the sensation itself, can you tell the shape of...

Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

Let's look a little more closely at touch sensations.

Put your hand on an object such as a table, where it can rest. Then close your eyes.

Is there a boundary between you and the object in the touch sensation itself?

Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

Here is another exercise about the body: With the eyes closed, sitting still, without relying on thoughts or mental images: Can it be known how tall the body is? Does it have a weight or a volume of the body? In the actual experience does the body have a shape or a form? Is there a boundary between ...

Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

Sorry I've been away for so long! Once again, I haven't been getting any notifications. Hold your hand in front of you and look at it. What makes one part of what you see, your hand, part of your body, and the rest of what you see not you, or not your body? There are other exercises for looking at t...

Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

Look again - is there pain happening to the body, or is pain an aspect of the experience being labeled body?

Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

I'm having the same problem with notifications. I'll bring it up with the board admins. Try a different approach: When suffering happens, look for the owner of it, or who the suffering is happening to. Don't just assume you know the answer, really look. If there seems to be a sufferer, what makes it...

Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

No, that was a very good explanation. It sounds like you're looking for less suffering and more ease. The irony is that to fight suffering is to intensify it. I don't know if you've done something like this before, but next time you notice suffering, don't resist the experience. Pay attention to exa...

Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

Pay close attention to what happens as you do the following: Write out "138 +74" on a piece of paper in the form you use to hand-calculate the sum, one number under the other with digits lined up. Then calculate the sum by hand. Where is the information coming from that you use in this process? Answ...

Re: A logical mind seeks freedom and joy

Assuming standard, everyday base 10 numbers and no unusual nonstandard conditions, what is 1 + 1?

How do you know?
