Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane, One of the guides would like you to expand a bit on the theme of 'responsibility' (from the 5th question). It is a bit of an ambiguous word, with at least two strands of meaning: one sense is: "I am responsible for cleaning this mess up, even though I did not create it" - a duty has been a...

Re: Stuck in the mud

You're welcome :-)

You've been great to work with, I have particularly appreciated your dogged determination to keep at it in spite of the discomfort!

Let's see what the others think....

Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane, What a lovely read! Such confidence and clarity! I don't think I have anything to add, but I would like to see if any other guides have anything they would like to go into (this is standard LU procedure). Is it OK with you if I ask a couple of other LU guides to take a look over our thread...

Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane, a big shift toward freedom. No 'I' no "self" no "me" and no illusion. It's wonderful to read such confidence! Great! There is a set of 6 standard LU questions that help to look at the nature of any shift that has happened - I suggest we look at them, if there's nothing you'd like to go int...

Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane, There are many, many accounts of this transition, and they vary hugely. The accounts that are most spectacular and memorable are the ones that we are most likely to notice and remember. This general phenomenon is a well-known cognitive bias, affecting things like how we evaluate danger (eg...

Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane, Ah yes, expectations! It could be worth our looking at the content of the expectations at some point, but you have already put your finger on the most profound way of addressing them: notice the expectation as just another passing thought And why not, I wonder? No doubt some thoughts are "...

Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane,

OK, good stuff!

When you stop and consider the question now, is there any doubt remaining about the existence of "self"? Is there any lurking sense that "there MUST be a self because otherwise....."?

Would you say that you have seen through the illusion of self?

Best wishes,

Perry

Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane,

OK, great!
Things happen and I experience them.
What is the "I" that experiences them?

Best wishes,

Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane, OK, good plan! This is a good place to kick off... tell me your response to these questions: Sitting here now, seeing is happening - does this just happen, or does 'I' make it happen? Hearing is happening - does this just happen, or does 'I' make it happen? Tasting, smelling, feeling ... d...

Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane, Sorry for the long hiatus, and thanks for your patience.... Let's pick things up again! It has been such a while, I'm not quite sure where to start! Is there anything you would like to bring in? If not, I could either go back and see if there is a thread to pick up on again. Sometimes it c...

Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane,

Apologies, I have been rather under the weather the last few days, and finding it difficult to focus for long enough to reply properly

I will be in touch again soon,

Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane, Thanks for that - I am glad you're keen to continue, in spite of the discomfort! It may not seem very creative, but I would suggest giving the same exercise a third go, with a slightly different emphasis, this time, because I believe this exercise is still yielding new learning. The slight...

Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane, Well done, that took some courage. It was a very unpleasant experience. OK, that certainly comes across in what you wrote. I take it that these kinds of experiences are familiar, though, and that these thoughts / feelings erupt habitually during day-to-day life too? It strikes me that ther...

Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane,

OK give it another go when you are ready.

Of course you'll need to "reset" back to direct experience each time too - all good practice!

Best wishes

Re: Stuck in the mud

Hi Diane, OK, good work. [...] I became aware that this was a 'thought' and I returned to the sensations in the body I'd like to draw particular attention to this ... it is a very good answer to the question: how does 'self belief' come to an end? The key is to notice thought as thought , upon which...
